Its more general logistics with MS and whether it makes sense. Also any JPN publisher would be an absolute pain to persuade them to join you.
Maybe just getting FF14 on the Xbox platform in any way would be perfect . On the other points, I’d rather they avoid SE if it’s an “either-or” scenario with another Japanese pub. I don’t think their IP is nearly as strong as it once was, being nostalgic to older gamers such as myself but maybe not as appealing to the younger audience. I suppose the same could be said about any of the “big three” Japanese pubs being discussed here. Maybe Bandai Namco would be the best buy….anime is huge across all age ranges apparently.
I think that is why everyone is so focussed on Sega despite there never being a single ‘insider rumour’ about it – it’s the deal where the ‘optics’ would only be an issue for those who hate on everything MS does.
Sega had a strong association with Xbox in the early days, with a slew of games that started development for DC becoming OG Xbox exclusives. Certain franchises, like Panzer Dragoon, have an even stronger connection, with the ‘spiritual sequel’ Crimson Dragon from the series creator, being an Xbox One exclusive.
They are also, in their history, technically an American company run by Japanese people and have always catered to both markets. There is nothing niche or designed to appeal only to Japanese audiences or Western Japanophiles. From day one they made games to appeal to both markets and still do.
It makes a lot of sense. So much sense that it has continued to be one of the biggest rumours without any credible ‘insider’ ever saying a word about a Sega deal.
I doubt it’s going to happen, but I would be delighted if it did.
Acquisition or not, we all agree must do something to crack SE antagonizing behaviour, tell me anything you want, but Xbox came back to OG Xbox levels concerning Final Fantasy games, aka zero and it’s not good, expecially while you’are trying to crack asian markets seriously for the first time in a decade.
Hard to do much about it other than buy the games, play them on GamePass and hope Sony and Nintendo stop throwing money at games to be exclusive.
We should also stop to blame Xbox community for “not buying games”, expecially when they arrive years (or decades) later at stupid price points, we are not the problem, this is the only certain thing.
I don’t think Xbox gamers are the problem. I’m simply saying that buying the games, playing on GamePass, etc is the best way to speak to a corporation. Money and engagement are the only languages they seem to understand.
Square Enix’s decision making is baffling to me. After they release only two mainline games of a franchise with more than 15+ games, they deem the cash from Sony the better option.
Instead of growing the fanbase on Xbox and with that growing the franchise as a whole.
Sega and Capcom seem to understand that, but fuck SE for that BS.
Of course FF Paradise is gonna sell like shit on Xbox, that’s a game only fans of a franchise would buy.
Why October for Sony ?
He’s just making a joke
Thanks !
Yeah, the only new FF we’ll get for the next 2-3 years is a bad looking spin-off, this situation it’s becoming a bad joke, lmao.
It also doesn’t help that the only Final Fantasy games released to Xbox(XV and XIII) are arguably one of the worst in the franchise.
lol, what
FF XIII is pretty much agreed upon as the worst mainline Final Fantasy, and XV is considered below average for the franchise. These are the only Final Fantasy games that released day one on Xbox.
thats not true
It’s honestly infuriating.
I mean, everyone has a different opinion but FFXIII has the worst critic reception(83 on PS3, 65 on PC. FF XIII sequels have even worse Metacritic scores with Lighting Returns having a 66 on PS3 Metacritic) of the franchise.
FFXV has a 81 on PS4 Metacritc and a 83 on Xbox. Not necessarily a bad score but it is below average for the franchise.
SEGA obviously checks the most boxes as a 3rd publishing arm, followed by Paradox Interactive (in my opinion).
These are both public companies (SEGA’s gaming division being part of one). This hasn’t been Xbox’s strategy (yet).
We know acquisitions are coming.
Guaranteed money lowers risk
The game is the game
