I was making a joke that the calendar month of August would be purchased by Microsoft.
Too small?
Too Japanese
Capcom not going anywhere. Look at these numbers.
Way too big
Tjey were in negotiations off and on for 3 yrs. The zenimax deal.was brought up?in recent podcast. Phil was very sincere. He wasnt making it up.
It didnt read as a joke but mistakes happen sifting through half a days posts.
Nothing too big for Microsoft.
If by big you mean a whole entity like Square Enix which has interests in music, manga, etc yes but I reckon Sega gaming is separate now along with Capcom (having its best run ever so wont sell).
Pinch hitter Ohtani style
While I agree the chances of CAPCOM selling is less likely than SEGA, I also just see CAPCOM raising their price tag with each successful launch.
I don’t think CAPCOM is going to happen, but a company being healthy isn’t an immediate sign of no interest in being acquired.
If MS really wants to dig in they’re 1000% serious and like Nick says MS needs to be a prick, they should invest massively / buy Square and make Final Fantasy exclusive to Xbox / PC. It will be super interesting to see how people react to that one after Sony has been paying for it to be exclusive, I still think the media and fans will lose their shit over it and act like it’s the end of the world, but Nick is right they do need to be a prick about it.
It’ll take a massive feather out of Sony’s cap, but Sony would survive without it and I don’t think PS5 will suddenly stop selling well.
The best part of this scenario is that PC gamers will actually get to play these games.
I mean, Square Enix would be terrible in the short term. Their 2 biggest games are timed PS5 exclusives and even with a MS acquisition I don’t see MS not honoring these contracts. FFXVI don’t even have a release date yet, so who knows when the next Final Fantasy, the game that could be a Xbox exclusive, would release.
Also their western studios have been disappointing too(Avengers was terrible and Guardians of The Galaxy is looking bad as well).
Sega and Capcom would provide way more content in the short term and I think that they have more chance of succeeding in long term too.
I think yall let the brand name of Square Enix and FF cloud how kinda mediocre they are (I love Eidos and Crystal tho).
They do ok. Here’s the metacritic spread on Square Enix vs Capcom, for example:
https://www.metacritic.com/company/square-enix
https://www.metacritic.com/company/capcom
Both 74 average. Sega at 72.
Sega gets you very little for console comparatively, but is strong on PC.
Capcom gets you fewer games than S-E, but more likely to be successful individually.
All three would be a very big deal. Hopefully none of them happen
I think that the only Square games that I actually liked in the last 5 years were FFVII Remake, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Nier Automata(which was not even made by Square), the rest of their games have been mediocre to REALLY bad(stuff like Balan Wonderland).
Like I’ve said before it could be a hub in Asia for them too, obviously they’re not going to be able to get the coming soon games but it is the ones after. Square has a ton of IP too, Dragon Quest would be a massive get for Xbox to push Japan and even in the west.
Sure short term is nice but long term is more important, they have a fair chunk of games in the short term already. Nothing to stop Microsoft buying SEGA and Square
3.5m sales in 3 days is kinda big, FF14 is having a big comeback it looks like and it would be a perfect game for Game Pass. Can I pls have Deus Ex.
So, the company that has more probability to be bought by xbox is sega?
Sega’s franchises seem to be growing in popularity. From Gamasutra
“As mentioned before, all of that boils down to 41.8 million Sega games sold during the year ending March 31, 2021, including 6 million new titles and 35.8 million copies of back catalog titles. On a franchise by franchise basis, that looks like 4.4 million Sonic games, 4 million Total War games, 3.8 million Football Manager games, and 3 million Persona games sold throughout the year.”
Total War and Football Manager at around 4 million is impressive. Football manager is an annual game. And Total War releases almost annually too. Sonic selling 4.4 million is shocking since there was no new Sonic game released. Persona would easily sell 8 million or more if it was multiplatform
I hope Gamepass comes to steam and MS buys Sega. Total War and Football Manager could bring in so many subscribers. Both franchises should have new games out in like 3-4 months.
Also Atlus announced they are working on 10 different projects between Atlus/Vanillaware/collaborations. Just buy Sega please.
If we are talking about Japanese publishers than i would say yes, Sega is definitely the most likely.
