Oh shit, I think I may have misread the translation:
Japan is xbox fastest growing market according to Hinton;
- They commit to localized every single first party game, SoT got a increase in JP players since it got a jp update back in February.
- They are already in talks with the TGS organization to attend, which will be the 2nd consecutive year (doesn’t happen since the x360 days)
- Series XS is still super OOS over there, they are actively talking to stores to only sell to members, using lottery or special credit cards to avoid scalping.
- They mention the fact that more and more jp indie studios are getting xbox dev kits
- Their data says a lot of the series XS users never had a xbox before, and many are coming back from the x360 days (’’ I’m very happy that the Xbox 360 was a successful generation in Japan. It’s clear that Japan is a market that can’t be ignored’’)
- He has no idea which of S or X is the most popular as both sold out asap, depends on stock.
- Says they are always looking to bring in jp studios if the opportunity appears but says that isn’t all, mentioning potential 2nd party deals, and jp GP.
- ‘‘The number of contents created by Japanese creators has also reached the largest ever for Xbox, and I would like to continue to grow in the future’’

Yeah, the article never said MS won’t do acquisitions in Japan, just that it won’t be the only way.

Xbox is not going to acquire studios in Japan. They have never done so (althought they have tried) and their only Japanese studio was a by product of bethesda.
This is contradicting directly what Spencer said when he talked about wanting a Japanese studio. Also if they want Game Pass to be global, they won’t have choice but to acquire studios in different locations, Japan included.

He also said that he is very much interested in acquiring Japanese studios. Also, a company will never confirm any talks happening. There is also literally no reason for them not acquiring there.

I’m ready to go to Tokyo. Yeah, I mean go see Tango [Gameworks], a studio that I have such respect for the history of the creations there. I’ve talked for a long time about our desire to have more of a first-party presence in Japan. This is a great step there.
