It’s realistic because they already tried last year (alongside others), but the 4 billions price tag without IPs was a scam and nobody bought it. I always thought Xbox was interested only in selected studios/IPs and not in the whole package, we’ll see.
Last year they were in heavy negotiations with Zenimax.
They can do more than one thing at a time.

It’s realistic but I can’t see anything happening till after the new company is formed. They seem to want to concentrate on their streaming services and the new company has a value of around $120-$130bn with about $60bn in debt. They will want to get that debt down ASAP while expanding the offerings from the HBO/WB side

On top of that, there’s evidence Microsoft is seeking to make acquisitions in the country, though it hasn’t yet landed a deal with a big name there. Several Japan-based game developers, from small to big, said it had approached them about buying their businesses. They asked not to be identified as the talks were private, and declined to give details on how the discussions went.

I think some Xbox Japan guy said they wouldn’t be acquring in Japan, and instead be seeking out 2nd/3rd Party Deals/Partnerships.
I think he said this like a month ago.

Yep, I remember the same. Nonetheless, that is a normal PR statement. You cannot make a statement until you sign the documents. And that’s why all acquisitions talks are around feelings and people hearing stuff.
This same “Xbox Japan guy” has been banned for making false claims repeatedly whilst stating they were fact due to their “insider knowledge/sources”. Thus, any absolutes should also be disregarded.
I’m honestly shocked how many, even in our lovely community, will still make statements that stand in direct contradictions to those of Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and the rest of the Microsoft/Xbox executive team. Some random guy on here or Twitter isn’t going to know better about the direction of Xbox than the people running it and making those deals/acquisitions…

Come on MS, acquire Netherrealm, TT Games, SEGA, Square Enix and the rights to some Konami IP and call it a day. Let TT Games make a 3d Sonic Game in the veins of Sonic Adventure, make a family friendly Kartracing Game in the veins of Sonic and Sega All Star Racing but with the Characters from Xbox, Bethesda, Konami, Square and Sega. Let Ninja Theory develop a 3D Castlevania Game and Moon Studios or Igarashi a 2D one. I know call me crazy but this Scenario would be a dream for me.
