Can you all get back on topic? If there’s no acquisition news or whatnot, there are plenty of other threads. But the doom and gloom intwined with investor-intrigue is a little much…

As I said previously, this TGS will be another thermometer of Xbox commitment to japanese dev scene and market, it’s already good that they are committing to the convention permanently and last year showing was not an one-off for console launch. I hope this will be the moment for the long awaited coming of Persona on Xbox at least, we know FF is sealed away thanks to Sony money and/or SE unwillingness (at least for FF14, the amount of excuses about that title is simply ridiculous now), then there are countless middle/small tier japanese series we hope to see landing on the platform in the middle-long run. Concerning exclusive titles, I think MS would announce that during more important conventions/shows, like TGA or E3, considering it would be a big moment, last big japanese exclusive was canned and before that all X1 generation had only a handful titles (DR3 from Capcom, D4, Crimson Dragon, ReCore and…that’s it). I also don’t think they’ll announce there acquisitions.
Dev scene, sure, but not market. I’ve always thought that the idea that MS needs Japanese devs to make games for them to have any impact in Japan is antiquated. Almost all of Sony’s flagship franchises are western-made (and very much western in style) these days and they sell fine in Japan.
I’m not against Japanese devs joining Xbox, but I also don’t see why ‘caring about Japan’ needs to mean turn-based anime games or nothing. They should also do the work to sell the Japanese market on the games they want to make.
Maybe they announce the Kojima game at TGS.
If there is anything ready to be said about some relationship with Kojima I would expect that at The Game Awards in December, particularly based on Aaron Greenberg’s tweet below when asked about the Tokyo Game Show.

Jez corden doesn’t belive there will be a studio acquisition this year.
Speculations mainly, nobody really knows until it is done. If we take Jez as an example, he didn’t know about Zenimax until a few hours before.
Some people expecting acquisitions like game pass drops lol.
I’m not expecting one right now, but just pointing out that this stuff is really hard to predict for insiders, seeing as it is very private in general, and most of the times they know the same time as us. Jez with Zenimax is an example and his tweet here is him saying “maybe or maybe not, I don’t know”. So, since nobody really knows, there could be one or not.
Agree I just think It’s just pointless to speculate or constantly fret about when its going to occur. These things just happen (rarely) and occur when Microsoft thinks its ready and have only really been a thing since the commitment to gaming.
People also tend to ignore the types of studios Microsoft have bought and they all kinda fit a pattern.
Fully agree with that.
Yea I’m starting to feel the same. This year is a cool down year after Zenimax
Paradox changing up the leadership with the CEO resigning due to “differing views on the company’s strategy going forward”… Maybe one of those things that fell through?
“Due to differing views on the company’s strategy going forward, Paradox Interactive AB’s (publ) CEO Ebba Ljungerud has decided to leave the CEO position with immediate effect. The Board of Paradox Interactive has appointed Fredrik Wester as CEO with immediate effect. Ebba Ljungerud will stay for a period to ensure a good handover. In connection with Fredrik Wester’s appointment as CEO, he has resigned as Chairman of the Board with immediate effect. The Board has decided to appoint Håkan Sjunnesson, currently Deputy Chairman of the Board, as Chairman of the Board.”
In that the CEO botched a potential sale to Microsoft you say? Could explain it I guess.
That was a hot rumor no so long ago.
Yeah, makes you wonder which direction they will take now. Wester is old guard, but without knowing which camp wanted what it’s hard to predict, or if it was even a thing at all.
Botched acquisition? I remember reading someone saying that Saber CEO told in an interview that Microsoft approached them once. I don’t remember about that on Paradox other than just speculation due to their recent approximity with GamePass and Xbox marketing.
What I do know is that they’re under fire for some of their DLC having major quality downfalls, the latest EU IV is likely the worst rated DLC on steam.
Jason Schreier knew 1 month before it happened.
“I got a tip about Microsoft buying Zenimax about a month before it happened but couldn’t confirm it. And one time I called Bungie for comment on news I was about to break about Destiny getting microtransactions. Instead of commenting on the story, they just posted the news on their blog themselves, lol.”
He also said it was from a random Twitter account, and not from his own sources. Jez though only knew hours before, like most. Again, not saying there is gonna be one or not soon, just saying that this stuff is so secretive that it is hard for insiders to know if it happens or not, or when it will land. Jez in that case, doesn’t know more than us.
I agree that insiders don’t know any more about acquisitions than any one else, and I’d they do they must be a top executive at xbox who is risking their career, or possibly jail due to insider trading, which I doubt. That why you should be skeptical of anyone claiming to know about acquisitions like ACG is doing right now among other xbox “insiders” who hyped acquisitions before e3.
Also, for people saying the have bought studios but are waiting to announce, Phil Spencer at 28:10 said that as a publicly traded company they need to announce acquisitions very quickly so there are no hidden acquisitions ( looking at you people who claim the bought Avalnche )
