Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Xbox lack of competitiveness in the fighting Genre is more concerning than the JRPG one.

Sadly it’s a consequence of last generation. X360 was the king of fighters (heh) then when Xbox One shat the bed, they went with the platform leader which was PS4. Sony just doubled down on that.

Just seems like the natural move considering they have acquired EVO and are doubling down on it.

Between EVO and wanting to dominate the anime industry, both ArcSystem and Kadokawa seem like perfect targets for Sony.

Don’t worry, the government will prevent the monopolization of a genre

can’t believe you’re all talking about niche fighting games and NIS games when FFXIV and Genshin are still not on the platform

talk about missing the forest for the trees

I’m not really going to pay the rumor any mind at this point, just as I do with any acquisition rumor for Xbox, but it would be interesting if it was correct.

That means Xbox insiders would have better first hand knowledge than many of these so-called PlayStation Insiders. Maybe OtherERA would allow Dealer back on again after years of banning him for shit he apologized for in 2016.

Dragon Quest, Yakuza, Octopath Traveler are big JRPGs that came to Xbox (and Game Pass) within the last year. Two new JRPGs were just announced at the showcase. It’s being addressed, what’s the concern?

Fighting games come to Xbox (and Game Pass) (e.g., Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Soul Caliber, Injustice).

Xbox doesn’t need first-party everything. Support is there and growing.

Yeah, these are bigger problems, but it’s not MS fault: Square is shady as hell and Genshin is Tencent owned.

He doesn’t need to get back on there anymore.

No, I meant at least his tweets.

You can’t anything Dealer, or even Dealer adjacent without OtherERA mods giving you a ban warning.

But that’s neither here nor there.

I WOULD like an update on these acqusition updates by Xbox.

We got this thread sidetracked.

I’m sure they’ll drop a batch soon enough if rumors are to be believed.

I expect 20 studios announced by the end of August.

The Arc Systems acquisition if true by Sony is a good play for them with the Evo purchase. It also strengthens their presence in the genre. It doesn’t really hurt directly Xbox because these games aren’t coming to Xbox anyways. However they do need to ensure they have a major presence in the genre somehow. I’d hope it’s through acquiring Netherelm and the Mortal Kombat IP.

I agree for the most part, but I think the only way to salvage that would be to contact Disney about using Marvel/Star Wars IPs.

So based on the opinion of the xbox era crew and Jez they seemed to think that Avalanche (maybe more complicated due to Nordisk per Jez) and IO right now dont seem keen to acquisitions which is understandable given their current projects and the possibility that they could be worth more down the road. Did I get this right?

I never understood why the Avalance acquisition rumors ever took off…it just didn’t seem feasible, or even worthwhile.

Similar to Splash Damage, Sumo Digital, etc. - they’re simply becoming a well-known “work for hire” third-party studio.

I never believed in the rumors of the pre e3 acquisitions. I think they are going to be acquiring but IOI / WB studios / crytek / Avalanche / Asobo are not going to join the fold.

As crazy as it sounds, I think WB studios are the most likely out of that list to join Xbox sooner rather than later.

If Nordisk dont want to sell then nothing happens. IOI I think goes through though

It’s like the insiders didnt know Avalanche were already owned by someone lol
