Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Having played 30+ years of Capcom games, I would have agreed with you back in the 90s, early 00s, but that wasn’t my point; I specifically am discussing the success of Capcom games. Keep in mind that Monster Hunter World was their first title ever to sell more than eight million units… given the storied franchises they have and how often people treat them as the pinnacle of the Japanese gaming industry, I’d say reality doesn’t match up.

Tomb Raider for sure, but also Deus Ex and give it to Arkane.

Arkane would make a great Deus Ex game. Would like it if Eidos was given more money and more time to finish that trilogy. Just make the hub worlds a bit bigger with more in them. Perfection!

I’m always so weird about the whole idea of buying an IP to throw at a team that has never worked on it, but if the developers are up for it than so am I.

I’d love to see Microsoft acquire the Sleeping Dogs IP and acquire Rocksteady to work on it.

Or acquire CyberConnect2 and Asura’s wrath so a handful of us can die happy…

Not Xbox related because it pertains to Playstation.

How do you feel about potentially losing those studios / IP from the Xbox ecosystem permanently? Personally I am not interested in those games.

I think their two recent games being guilty gear and granblue fantasy versus are really solid but they were not coming to xbox anyway, I wonder if sony would remove their support for the pc market.

What does this hint at from an Xbox perspective?

Genenrally, both xbox and ps know what the other is doing. I am extrapolating that a different xbox deal is underway somewhere else, and PS is making some defensive acquisitions in its backyard.

Also, this proves sort of that only xbox has insiders across the industry. There are no PS insiders.

They’ve been paid exclusive to PS recently anyway so doesn’t change much. I think it does underline MS gap in the FG genre further though.

MS is losing nothing, Arc Sys support was already non existant, their only games which came to Xbox were Bandai Namco projects anyway.

I wonder if this studio fits in the “organic growth” theory of Jimbo, lmao, they were far from doing only PS projects.

It means that Xbox is landing another big deal, Sony acts only in response of MS since 2 years.

This is totally organic growth. Haha.

Arc System Works is a really cool and talented studio… :expressionless:

ArcSystem Works was on my wishlist ever since DBFZ as one of the best fighter studios out there. So this is sad news for me if it’s true. Hopefully it’s going to cost Sony a lot of money, if it’s cheap like Insomniac I’ll be sad. MS desperately needs a fighter studio. I really hope NRS is on their shopping list, otherwise they’ll have no fighting studio while Sony will gobble them all at this rate with exclusives. Not many great fighter studios left and diversity is key for Gamepass, something for everyone. And when it comes to hack and slash and fighters…it’s been dry for a long while. I hope they’re not neglecting those genres.

I’d be sad to see Arc System Works go exclusive, but I’d be happy to see such a talented team getting permanent funding and resources.

This definitely would seal the deal for me on the MS/NetherRealm wishes though. Xbox already struggles getting fighters as it is.

The only thing I would say about ArcSystem is that it wouldn’t do much for me since I’ve never played Guilty Gear, but I can see why Sony would acquire them and I hope MS gets NetherRealm.

Agree - this almost pushes Xbox towards NetherRealm.

I mean, last Arc Sys original fighting game which landed on Xbox was forever ago at the beginning of 8th gen, I see no big deal, it’s hard to miss something you never had in the first place. PC players would lose something instead, I’m curious if journous will cry for them, lmao.

Anyway, MS must snatch away NetherRealm, that would be a significant blow, Arc Sys is no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

It’s just a studio I could’ve seen Phil pushing more on in the future to be multiplat. Especially if they end up making another Persona fighter, another Blazblue, and if the rumored MHA Fighter is amazing.

DB FighterZ was one of my most played fighting games this gen. The Missing (White Owls project w/ assistance from Arc) and River City Girls were awesome as well. Thankfully, Wayforward is working on RC2.

Agree with NetherRealm fully!

Would they keep the games Ps exclusive though? I mean does playstation support all the Joysticks and peripherals that people use for fighting games on PC? Although I might be talking about a niche here.

I personally don’t care if they grab ASW cause the only fighting game I play is Tekken.
