Xbox Acquisition |OT| - So We’re Back to Making Lists, Huh?

Really hard to tell, do you spend that 8.3 billion on one studio or do you spend it on a publisher with multiple studios, my guess it’s for a publisher either way Microsoft would step in.

Tencent is interested in popular online games (and mostly free to play) and don’t care about the rest.

CDPR won’t be bought by them, no interest.

Anybody catch defining Duke podcast where ACG said all you have to do is check LinkedIn to see what Microsoft is up too.

See, I would agree, but Cyberpunk does have a micro-transaction MP coming out…

Also, people are forgetting that CDPR has an entire distribution platform with GOG… so the chances of Tencent trying to get their teeth in there are definitely non-zero.

This is true. A lot of people do this to find out a lot of info. For podcasts, if there’s time stamps, I just watch the segments that I have interest in so I missed ACG saying this.

Yeah it is what people have been doing for years now since you can get a good grasp where a particular game might be heading.

I love small games just as much as the big ones and I definitely think that Xbox should expand into acquiring some of those smaller teams too, but there are some cases where it doesn’t really make sense.

In the case of Tunic, the game is being made basically by one guy, so it wouldn’t make too much sense to go for him.

I also think an important point is that Xbox is looking for IP right now too (this is probably to keep major titles in Game Pass permanently and to build up the Xbox brands overall image), so someone like Supergiant makes a lot of sense. Companies that are also showing major promise early on and have been working with Microsoft closely could be in the cards too.

I see Microsoft potentially looking at these small/mid sized developers (even if the devs themselves have mentioned no interest):

  • The Behemoth (Castle Crashers, Pit People, Alien Hominid, Battleblock Theater)
  • Bloober Team (Medium, Observer, Layers of Fear, Blair Witch)
  • Ebb Software (SCORN)
  • Playdead (INSIDE, LIMBO)
  • GSC Gameworld (STALKER)
  • Moon Studio (Ori)
  • Night School Studio (Afterparty, Oxenfree)
  • Studio MDHR (CUPHEAD)
  • Studio Wildcard (Ark: Survival Evolved)
  • Supergiant Games (Hades, Bastion, Pyre, Transistor)
  • Variable State (Virginia, Last Stop)
  • Young Horses (Bugsnax, Octodad)

You mentioned Tequila Works and I honestly don’t think they’d be a bad pick either. Thatgamecompany is very talented, but I don’t know if they’re looking to sell. They’d probably be pretty cheap too since I don’t think they own any of the IP they’ve done.

What Parris said was his crazy thought behind the Xbox and Kojima statue would be super dope if it was true.

His idea was that:

  1. Xbox acquired gaming IPs from Konami, not Konami itself. They can still do their pachinko thing.
  2. Phil then went to Kojima with a blank check and said “If you want to make another Metal Gear, now you can with us as we own the IP”

Don’t need to acquire Kojima studios if you get a crazy partnership like that. Imagine what an Xbox exclusive Metal Gear would do for Gamepass…

Alot of people would be salty AF and I would love to see the OtherEra reaction TBH haha

Why don’t you like being called Dan?

i follow timur222 who does things like that.

Seems unlikely. XBOX would want permanent streaming and Game Pass rights for their published games. Most likely XBox wants to work with Kojima on a new ip. If I remember, XBox was one of the publishers to approach him when he fell out with Konami.

It’s all in jest of course, never serious unless I need to be. Thanks for the cultural knowledge too btw, had I not ended up where I was that would have been my profession (cultural anthropologist; per my degree).

Long story, my Da and that side is Irish, so Dan and Danny were heard more than enough. Prefer Daniel
