MS better go get WB Capcom and Sega dont let Tencent anywhere near them plus gamepass
I do wonder why Tencent can purchase. Also it seems Tencent is entering 1T club soon.
I don’t think any of those companies are contendors for Tencent acquisition. Microsoft can and should easily outbid Tencent in a SEGA bidding war. Capcom is doing really well so don’t think they’re willing to get acquired, not sure about WB Games, they might go on sale again despite what AT&T said.
I don’t think Sega is willing to be purchased by chinese companies. Also Japanese government is also not that happy with chinese funds in its industries.
Thinking strategically - what could be a good investment for Tencent? I wonder if it something korean…
I think we should look at Japanese market - a lot of turbulency is happening there. Even Konami is coming back from the grave. AT&T is not willing to sell anymore - I believe they will invest into some small streaming service maybe. Or like Disney and Konami will try renting IPs.
True but still dont let Tencent get them haha
I still think Tencent is going after someone more mobile focused. The loan amount would probably be a little over half of what Zynga would sell for.
if I’m thinking strategic, I think EA is the actual contendor that shall be at the forefront of acquisition talks that Tencent wants in on as well. EA is getting into mobile this generation, they just bought one of the biggest mobile publishers Glu for 2+ Billion. Activision has already started with COD Mobile. That’s the kind of companies I think Tencent is going after, which are huge in multiplayer and mobile. But they are also trying to get into the console space, so I have no idea who they might grab. All I know is the ones they want might need to have a strong live service focus (just like Leyou was).
Now that I think MS also got a mobile studio when it purchased Bethesda. But MS won’t be involved in mobile acquisitions I think. Better to make deals with EA for example. And also MS is more into XCloud anyway.
I agree EA doesn’t make a lot of sense for the value. Not that market cap is completely indicative of the price to acquire but EA is literally double the market cap of take-two interactive. So even with the assumption, you are having to pay extra per share to investors you are looking at coming in 20-30 billion cheaper to acquire take two.
Take-Two has better synergies for game pass as they have pc centric devs along with some console devs. they have more attractive IP’s globally that could more game pass subs. Plus they are in odd position where they don’t have enough money to combat the Tencent’s, ea’s, Netease, etc. of the world but are still fairly large. So if we keep seeing ea, Tencent, etc. outbid them as we saw with Codemasters. They could be willing to do a zenimax style deal.
plus with the marketing/gamepass deal they already have all the benefits of acquiring EA with none of the overhead cost. As with the gamepass deals after 9-12 months all the games go into ea play anyway. While if you extrapolate out longterm that will probably run into issues similar to netflix saw with content holders wanting more and more money. by the time that happens Microsoft will probably have secured enough studios/teams etc to operate gamepass without third party support which I would assume would be the ultimate goal to keep the service affordable.
You could easily acquire several smaller publishers that would greater diversify your gaming studio portfolio and give you more studios/teams with the amount of money needed to acquire ea.
T2 is too expensive though. Yet they have basically only GTA & NBA. No doubt those games are huge money makers and GTA exclusivity is basically a megaton but…That’s it.
I still believe that MS might purchase IO Interactive.
Oh let me make it clear, i don’t think take two would be acquired for the same reasons EA wont be. I was merely pointing out if we were in some hypothetical world where Microsoft wanted to spend that kind of Cash take two would be more logical purchase. If you are looking to spend between 40 to 80 billion. As you can get some better IP in the PC and Console space for less and Take two is closer to 40 at an all in price compared to ea who is closer to 80 or 80+ billion at an all in price.
However, I still believe they would still be better off acquiring japaense publishers or smaller publishers like paradox, devolver, etc. or a plethora of independant studios as you could acquire several of them and still not be at the kind of money needed to purchase EA or take two.
Take 2 would be worth it for Civilization series alone. Prove me wrong
Take Two makes sense to me because they have: Private Division Publishing, Army Men, Bioshock, Civilization, Bully, Max Payne, Myth, LA Noire, Red Dead, GTA, NBA 2K, XCOM
Plus Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption for free!
MS would want to spend that amount of cash, but it won’t be on T2. I don’t believe it is worth it for MS. Their big purchase attempts were all strategic like TikTok or Pinterest.
Tough to say. But … still too expensive.
We’ll see, but like I said, “along these lines”.
Doesn’t necessarily need to be Bungie.
Outside of the major publishers…and the studios that we hear about a lot (Asobo, Techland, Bloober). What other smaller studios are MS rumored to be looking at?
Supergiant, they have a solid history of great releases, love to see what they could do with a large budget
Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, Hades
Welcome to the community, looks like you came STRAIGHT to the acquisitions thread lmao nice nice.
I think Bungie is one, god save that small indie dev on the brink of collapse
There are no rumors around smaller studios as those are rarer to come forth into mainstream conversation like these bigger names do. Playtonic was rumored but they’re opening their own publishing arm so that’s more unlikely.
This topic excites me. Thanks for the welcome
