Xbox Acquisition |OT| - So We’re Back to Making Lists, Huh?

You don’t even need to buy EA anymore as long as they have that EA Play agreement. Their games will eventually comes to GP so why bother buying them.

This is a no brainer tbh.

Wasn’t his last game over a decade ago and not very good?

If he could recreate what he did with Ninja Gaiden in an original IP for Xbox then that would be pretty cool.

I would love see Itagaki back to make Xbox game

True. But if Microsoft gets a 10-15 year WB deal thats plenty of time to transition these studios to Xbox IP.

Correct. Still a better deal than spending money on CD Projekt Red.

Why not have them do new IP (or old Xbox IP) from the start? I don’t understand how having 6 ultra talented teams creating shit that can be associated with Xbox would be a bad thing.

EDIT: also would presumably include Mortal Kombat, Scribblenauts, and the old Midway IP.

The lack of IP lowers the buy price significantly. WB doesn’t want to sell the IP. WB Games without the IP isn’t as valuable or as enticing to buy. I’m just suggesting Microsoft can meet them halfway and ask for all WB licensing for 10-15 years, which is enough time to transition.

Based on Satyas comments about pursuing “big” ip I predict more bombs will drop. We need to think bigger then Asobo or Bloober.

Whos got big IP?

My peronally opinion I would WB IP deal to come with it with that said I think it worth it even if they dont get the WB IPs

Cause 4B for talents that may leave at any time is not worth the risk , Besides that developing new titles will take a long time and a lot of money, and you cannot guarantee success , But the only case in which I don’t see a problem in buying studios without IP and for talent only if the price is less than 2B

God, it would be so boring and lame to bring all that exciting talent to Xbox only to do fucking Batman, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings games…I can’t think of many outcomes more disappointing. So no, I disagree with the lot of you. These studios are much more exciting unchained from that stuff. I wanna see them stretch their wings.

EDIT: Of course you don’t give them $4billion, let’s not be crazy.

Also, I don’t buy the whole “every developer will leave!” thing that gets repeated from time to time.

That is what we have been trying to tell you but it hasnt seemed to sink in.

The entire reason ATT would sell their studios is because they desperately need money due to the massive debt. Gaming especially right now is a good source of income for their studios/IP which practically print money when they release.

They need money but they also have to be fiscally responsible so they WILL NOT sell the studios by themselves for a price that anyone will be willing to pay. If they cant get a high enough price then it is better financially for them to continue making a profit from their games.

Any sale will include licenses to make WB property games for a period of time (exclusively or not) in order to increase the sale price to something that ATT is willing to sell at.

Myself and others would love to see what those studios could do under Microsoft with freedom but that ISNT REALITY. Therefore we do not think it is worth discussing something that is such a low chance of happening.

I hear but you, but eh, I have a hard time believing the only situation where they would sell is one where they panic and need money the very next day like when Screech broke his Mom’s Elvis statue. They can more more money selling the studios and then separately taking their IP to license on the open market (exactly like Lucasfilm just announced they’re doing), it just would just take more effort.

I disagree. Xbox does need new IP but at this point they need talent/dev teams more for existing or new IP. Rocksteady is a great dev team. One of the best out there imo, if Microsoft can secure them, they should go definitely for it. And getting the Netherrealm team doesn’t hurt either. Can get them to make a new Killer Instinct, or a new MK game as an Xbox exclusive (which would be perfect cause both are heavy NA-oriented), or a Xbox All-star game like PS had a couple years ago. A lot of possibilities.

If they can secure some WB IP or have a partnership like Disney had with EA, that would be best-case scenario. But if they can’t, they should still go after these teams.

Either way, I am excited to see Xbox finally starting to act like the juggernaut that they should have been years ago. Not only to combat Sony/Nintendo but to keep Google/Amazon away. Can’t let Google/Amazon gain any ground & momentum in this industry. Sony/Nintendo can’t compete with Google/Amazon money but Microsoft can and gaming fans of all platforms will rather MS buy studios than Google/Amazon. Hoping for the Bethesda deal to close ASAP and more MS acquisitions to be announced.

Jez Corden said the new acquisition are probably small studios or indies. So, meh.

Personally, I want Microsoft to acquire WB Interactive with a 10 year licensing agreement because those licenses is what makes them attractive. With the exception of Gotham Knights, they’re all in the middle of development their current game which means you would still have to complete them anyway and release them as multi-platform games which would be a total and complete waste.

But acquiring them with the license then gives you much more mainstream media presence and will get a lot of consumers into your eco-system because they want to play the Batman, Suicide Squad, Hogwarts Legacy and others.

New IP is great but is also a much bigger risk. I also see WB as a great counter to Bethesda. Bethesda is pretty much all first person games where as WB is pretty much all third person games. It completely evens it out which is a great thing.

Batman and the DC licenses would rival Sony’s with Marvel/Disney in regards to Spider Man. It would be huge plus im a huge fan of most of their games so getting them day one on Game Pass and being all exclusive to Xbox/PC is icing on the cake.
