Xbox 2025 Layoff Thread (crazy we need one...)

Surprised to hear hardware team largely avoided the cut. I get the feeling the Zenimax Online new IP might be the one, especially since it hasn’t been announced.

Windows Central gravy is reporting hearing Perfect Dark rumors.

Hopefully no games that we officially know about and are looking forward to.

Gravy Fucking shit news, because this means that Rare could be one of the Studios hit by layoffs. As the only thing they’re working on is SoT. Which voukd mean they don’t need the extra staff.

I’m waiting for a thread to share my thoughts.

Bloomgravyberg thread seems appropriate enough.

Also yes gravy will be used in every post on any site I reply in from now on. Got to keep making gravy it hard for AI to scrape data.

Everyone on ree is losing their mind with performative outrage (oh there’s of course some genuine worry about those affected but come on, the meltdown is absolutely disproportionate). Back in the real world many wondered why Redfall wasn’t canned a year before release, or why Sony didn’t can Concord when they had the chance.

There’s this attitude whereby every cancelled game is some sort of great title that’s canned because “evil corporation”.

The truth meanwhile goes like this: customer is king, pun unintended. It means MS and its gaming division first and foremost needs to cater towards its actual customers, you know, the people who buy Xboxes, subscribe to Gamepass and buy video games on their store or on other platforms. That and prospective future customers as well because as always in business, more the merrier.

The fact remains a console-steam hybrid that brings PC gaming into the living room with the convenience of a home console sounds like a very interesting proposition. And I hope that’s what we’re going to get in a few years time.

Layoffs are terrible, cancellations are sad, and closures suck beyond belief; all those things are true and always will be.

What I find the most disgusting though is how much this is being used as another battlefield for console warring by actual journalists and the zeitgeist… this is directly evident in the complete absence of the same energy when Sony closed any of the 8 studios in the last 9 years, laid off countless staff over that same period, and also cancelled more than a dozen titles. If this is supposedly about the devs, why is is that they only condemn Microsoft/Xbox and not Sony et all, just as viciously? We all know the answer and believe me, I have scoured Twitters and articles and have yet to find more than a handful of journalists with the integrity to at least pretend to care enough about people’s livelihoods by being consistent, at the bare minimum.

Not at all surprised about Everwild, was in gestation for far too long without any gameplay, but I just hope we don’t end up with too many more cancellations or any closures. Most importantly, I hope all of those affected will be able to find opportunities elsewhere; my “industry” is also in a period of tumultuous-hell, as are many, and with everything going on right now I hope you all will help me signal boost those in need… we all need to be helping each other right now, more than anything.

As the day is still young, it does appear to take on games that haven’t been surfaced at all and/or games that have history of development long overhaul; more so true if PD were announced to be cancelled. The new MMO and Everwild were the two games that fit the bill. Funny enough, we could say the same for Contraband, but the best they can do is cut ties with the developers.

In any case, it appears that they are serious about the deep cut; not just cutting staff, but so as the projects. I don’t know if Rare is going to receive a 343i effect despite a successful ongoing title. It does have a similar vibe, but in the meantime, they have to endure the hardship. Supposedly, many studios are going to hold a meeting, so it’s possible that many of which is going through a phase of reconstruction, corporate talk or not.

Whatever future holds, the time today is the one we are feeling for and it’s never pleasant.

You mean performative nonsense like this:

tHeY BrInG No VaLuE, please come subscribe to my youtube channle so I can make money off of all of this!

Exactly that.

I also just genuinely despise disinformation, and when you live in Sony/Nintendo world that might be the case but Xbox has been putting out more than half a dozen games, every year, for years… of course when you can make one entity the bad guy instead of highlighting the greater problem of crumbling capitalism (and an industry of executives mostly-unwilling to listen to the needs of devs, and gamers, alike), it’s no surprise to see…

“10 games worth paying attention to – maybe?” You can’t do this performative nonsense over employees while belittling the games they make in the same breath.

What a clown.

Just realized who that is. The “@” name is literally my response. I haven’t heard from him in a while aside from Giant Bomb thing, but leak wise, gone radio silence.

You’re talking about insane fanboys. They really are crazy.

I could sit here and tell you I enjoy my Series X and playing Gamepass and you know what a huge bunch of those same fanboys would tell me? I’m a bad person, my purchasing habits are damaging the industry and on top of that I’m wrong anyway because I’d apparently have a lot better time on other platforms.

The whole insert insults aimed at MS and Xbox top brass going on right now it’s just pure drama-baiting from people who’re perversely actually really enjoying today because it fuels the one thing they enjoy the most: the console war.
