WSJ: Xbox to put next Call of Duty title into Game Pass

Ea play didn’t do day one games for GP. Their day one version is 17$ a month. With Ubi+ bear in mind they charge 18 bucks a month for just their games day one! With that in mind I think 10$ for Bethesda and ABK is a steal!

Yeah but both of those include all DLC and are seriously overpriced for their offerings - people dip in and out.

We already have Bethesda for the current price - if they want to increase it by 10 quid for ABK stuff I’d either want an additional perk or the ability to opt out, as I don’t like very much ABK puts out.

Stupidly if they explained a rise by saying due to inflation or rising costs I’d not have much of an issue, but having to pay more specifically for ABK stuff without the ability to avoid it would annoy me even if the rise was the same lol.

Yep it’s very much a me issue, I’d have been much happier if they’d got Ubisoft instead but they didn’t ask me :frowning: lol

GTA is over 10 years old, it’s a massive game with incredibly longevity but it can’t be compared to brand new CoD games launching day 1

Besides, prices are going to go up with or without CoD, it’s how these things go, especially with the current economy

It’s all those things at once. We didn’t get a jump for Bethesda that was described as such. Now we’re catching up and people are ascribing it to just ABK

If there was a new tier I hope its just CoD. Feels like there would have to be more to it than that though to justify a new higher tier

Maybe the highest tier could include the monthly-subs, like throw in TESO and Warcraft/WoW and whatever other monthly subs they have now. :person_shrugging:

That… is actually a good idea. The subs are very expensive though, so maybe give us one free sub? Which we can switch around to whatever game we want on a monthly basis.

(Fallout 1st is the same price monthly as GP Ultimate lmao)

I can’t see them ever giving up WoW sub, Fallout 1st, etc.

I believe Game Pass was meant to get more people into more games. To drop the barrier to finding your next favorite game. Then things like monthly subs (e.g., Fallout 1st, WoW, etc.) plus MTX and DLC were always meant to be the monetization streams for that growing audience. That’s why you don’t see DLC included in things like Forza Horizon.

I feel like Game Pass’ role in getting more people to play games was tied to cloud gaming taking off on top of PC and console doing better. While fast cloud adoption didn’t prove out, Sarah Bond did mention recently that cloud gaming is growing, with demand outstripping supply and growing faster than the market. So the promise is still there.

They’ve clearly realized it will be a slower walk than what they need, but her saying they are investing in cloud signals that they’re not giving up on positioning streaming. And the fact they are (repeatedly) saying everything is going in Game Pass is a clear signal that streaming and Game Pass are still a major bet.

They’re still positioned to have the “Netflix of gaming” if they make the right moves over time, but for now they have to maintain large and growing communities of gamers where they’re at. And each of those places is a pathway to their mobile store and to Game Pass/cloud.

The third-party pivot makes sense. Xbox has some of the largest live service games in the industry now. If they can get out in front of and stay in front of as many gamers as possible, while getting people to use their mobile store, then you’re talking about tens of millions of gamers getting familiar with that store and the brand. And do you try to upsell all of those folks who bought it digitally to take their game for a spin over the cloud? Maybe that’s enough of a taste of cloud gaming and how they could use Game Pass that they get curious about what else they could play over the cloud?

If you can prove out traction in that model, does that convince other publishers to join you? To put their games on your store and in Game Pass? Does that get them building towards the leading gaming store of a device agnostic, cloud-based gaming industry?

Perhaps it’s their best bet?

What’s certain is that the industry is at an inflection point. The traditional console market seems to have hit a ceiling and publishers/devs are having to figure out how to get more players, keep them playing and squeeze more dollars out of them. Whichever platform provider proves they have the most dev-friendly model to get more players across any device and makes it easy to monetize those players will likely pull out in front. Microsoft has all of the ingredients to do it.

The current price of Game Pass Ultimate is $16.99

Personally I wouldn’t mind if it went to $19.99 as that would be a fairly modest (imo) hike of just $3 all things considered. It would still easily be the best deal in gaming no questions asked.

Yeah I think the move is Core Stays at 10, We get a new tier at 15$ which has games like 6 months after launch, and 20$ for day one

Personally I would pay the highest tier whatever it is, as long as it’s honest to us as consumer, and for the studios to keep the lights on.

17 is where i draw the limit. I notice i tend to play one game to completion at a time now but in doing so ill play a game for a full month or 2 like im doing with grounded. its not worth the cost when im not playin a bunch of diffrent games. Ill just cancel if it goes up and buy stuff on sale like i do on psn. may be if its a game i really really want to play ill sub for a month here or there like gears and halo or like now where ijust resubbed for a month for hellblade and ill cancel after i beat it

Since Core is $10, im expecting Console to increase to $15 and Ultimate to at least $20.

My theory, call me crazy hehe

So many different variations they can do, wonder how they go about it and there is so many things to consider. Do they just raise prices, add new tiers, change how each tier works or all of the above.

We made fun of the PS Extra Premium Ultra Mega Super tiers but looks like we might get an even more confusing tier system lol. It’s allready a bit convoluted as is.

I don’t expect a good deal to come out of this for anyone and you are offering a lot of stuff for that extra $1 in the Game Pass tier.
