I would say there are maybe half a dozen people who know the final decision so yes it’s up in the air because not many people know the answer. You can rest assured that the people who make the final decisions know and have known for months.
It’s embarrassing that its their jobs to be informing us and instead I as someone who casually follows this stuff knows more. It’s most notable around E3 time. Watching the live reactions and seeing how many game writers know little to nothing about Xbox. I mean if you claim to like games how can an entire platform be ignored?
XboxEra has been a very welcome respite from the failure of a lot of big sites to have decent Xbox commentary.
But can I check what the big deal is if this is the case? Remember how weve all been saying that Xbox is playing the long game? That doesn’t magically end in 2021.
If that is true that’s 4 or 5 games tops -out of 10 over the next 5 years- that would not be exclusive. 5 years from now we won’t be having the discussion because no games will be partly developed.
Aren’t games developed for PC then consoles towards the end of the dev cycle? Starfield, I’d be curious to see how far into the PS5 build they were when Microsoft announced they were acquiring Zenimax.
Remember when in 2018 Xbox acquired multiple studios to create XGS, some games were still released on PS and other platforms. But that’s only because those studios’ had commitments. And Xbox needed to honour those agreements. I believe it will be the same for when the Zenimax aquation closes, if any of those studios under Zenimax were working or are still working on a multiplate title it will be honoured.
But all future new titles will be %100 exclusive, I could be wrong but knowing Xbox’s record of accomplishment all those new titles will be exclusive.
This you will find, is why Bethesda is sitting on announcements.
Yes. Both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV were only announced for “Next generation” and Indiana Jones has no platform announced…just a lot of “Can’t wait to play it” tweets from Xbox accounts.
By all means hammer the point home that all Bethesda titles will come to Gamepass on day one, but that’s not the number one question in the room because that is already known.
