Will Bethesda Games be Xbox Console Exclusive?

People are just stunned about the scale, and clinging on the Minecraft acquisition (it was done at a different time, with a different goal) to justify that Bethesda is too big to keep xbox exclusive just like minecraft was too big to be exclusive back then.

(And even that is bogus because it doesn’t account for the fact that Xbox as a platform is much bigger than it was back then as well)

To be fair, MS created this conversation by allowing so many games to be ported to other platforms. I think it’s great that they have as more people enjoying games is always a good thing. However as we see now, it does leave some lingering questions. I’m pretty sure Phil has acknowledged and made some comments about the expectations it may have set.

what got ported besides Ori and Cuphead? Am I missing some?

He did. He regretted the conversation it has started around every Xbox first-party games.

Colt has a bit of a odd video now. In the video title he says leaked Xbox event to showcase Bethesda games for Xbox Series. But Jeff Grubb never claimed this, see, this sets the wrong expectations. He calls it a huge new event, we honestly don’t even know it will be.

He also says

"Jeff Grubb believes that Xbox has an event planned for mid March, to announce the official joining of Bethesda to Xbox, and bring with the announcement clarity and excitement of big Bethesda franchises and new games to launch on Xbox first, or exclusively to bolster the first party offering. "

I don’t recall Grubb saying it like that though, especially the" new games to launch on Xbox first. ". You?

Grubb didn’t mention it as new games to launch on xbox first from what I watched. Sounds like he’s just putting his spin on it.

Exactly. If anything it seemed Grubb was actually pretty certain about the exclusivity.

Reminds me of this video. Final Fantasy Fans boo the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Here’s a weird take from your boy PsyDec.

People want Xbox to come out and say whether Bethesda titles are or aren’t exclusive, or at least lay out the plan for which game will and won’t be.

The topic of Bethesda exclusivity has generated so much discussion around Xbox since the initial reveal. Any chance Xbox quite likes the amount of conversation it has generated?

The problem is eventually the hype will dry out. You need to feed the hype machine.

Yea, I think Xbox should just stick to the “case by case” basis and let the fanboys suffer during each and every game announcement. Just like when Square talks about a new game Xbox gamers gotta deal with sony mucking it up.

No reason for MS to state anything other than case by case basis which is the correct decision. Some MMO’s will be multi plat, some games have previous contract commitments thus it is really a case by case basis.

MS should just make sure the big new IP’s and big sequels like TES 6 are Xbox eco system only but they do not have to state that before hand. Let the fanboys have their hissy fits after every game reveal.

That’s why they just say ‘it’s still a case by case basis’ and let speculation be endless about every upcoming Bethesda game. I guess at some point the silence on the topic would be hampered if they were all, or were not exclusive, as we would all know the outcome anyway.

Oh hype will happen once Xbox in a few years from now reveals TES VI and headlines will all make the mention it’s exclusive to Xbox.

Starfield will do that too.

nobody still has explained why MS should care about a group of consumers that completely swore off their platforms

Yeah. MS has a nice deck of powerful cards. Whether MS will be able to leverage those is a separate matter altogether. We’ll see but so far theri marketing is kinda dry. Let’s see what will change in the future.

I mean, having gamepass gives carte blanche on almost every exclusivity deal with whatever for example. It won’t be considered that bad by anybody.

It’s different because Fallout and TES are basically a small tier below Grand Theft Auto in terms of enormousness.

Many cannot comprehend a situation where Playstation is going to miss out on the biggest games of the generation and Microsoft “must” acquiesce due to install base, when the more reasonable conclusion is that Bethesdas games will simply result in Xbox having a larger install base then Playstation.

No that would be very annoying.

Xbox likely already knows what they’re planning to do and if they string people along just to keep people interested then that is a terrible way to treat people. They just need to rip the bandaid off.

Yep the games will be exclusive and that’s how Microsoft eats into Sony’s marketshare that’s what people are afraid of they want sony on top all the time

I agree with both of you.

No Bethesda game after the initial exclusives that Sony locked up will be on Playstation.

All games will be on Xbox, PC, Cloud.
