If MS releases games on PS5 while Sony pays to keep games away from Xbox I’m done. Literally no reason to own an Xbox at all if they do it.
Game Pass is plenty of reason to own an Xbox or PC. I’m not heartbroken if something isn’t exclusive but fwiw I think Microsoft will have a fairly flexible plan on Bethesda exclusivity. In the short-term, I imagine that existing franchises may remain on PlayStation (especially Wolfenstein 3). However, eventually I think they’ll become exclusive to Xbox/PC/xCloud. Licensed games like Indiana Jones seem unlikely to be anything but multi platform. Starfield will probably be exclusive but who really knows? Elder Scrolls 6 is far enough out, I doubt they’re close to making that decision.
On a side note, I’d love to see a Doom/Wolfenstein crossover. That would be a great way to rebrand those franchises as “exclusive”.
1000% fully exclusive. Anything less is a fucking slap in the face of every Xbox fan who has supported this brand since 2001 as well as those like me who are jumping back in (or for the first time) and have already invested over $1000 into the eco-system in four months.
- The only games that will be multi-platform will be Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo.
- All previously released games stay as is and will receive their future content updates as planned. No changes.
- No new MMO’s or anything like that. Instead, games like Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online will continue to get new expansions, updates and content. A current gen multi-platform upgrade version for both is likely but not guaranteed even though this would be what I would do instead of developing a new game. Just continue adding on to what you already have.
- Wolfenstein III is the only game I see as a possible multi-platform game as it will conclude the current storylines but at the same time, it shouldn’t be multi-platform. Sometimes, you need to be an asshole and this would be one of those times. This will however be cross-gen. Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC.
- Indiana Jones will be fully exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Monetary wise -
- Would cost Microsoft more money to make the games multi-platform as it would increase the overall expenses that would have to be paid. Development studios would need more money, time and resources. Physical copies cost money in regarding to printing, manufacturing, shipping, distribution as well as the retailers getting their cut.
- Sony would also get 30% cut of every sale, digital and physical. Microsoft would literally be paying Sony to license and have the game(s) on their PlayStation platform. SMH.
- Everyone working on the game would have extra work to do by now having to work on the PlayStation 5 version of the games. While still most likely getting paid the same amount as if they weren’t.
- Advertising and Marketing would also cost more because if you’re releasing the games on PlayStation, you obviously want them to sell millions of copies because otherwise, why do it? In other words, you would want the games to be a success.
Internal wise -
- Todd Howard/Pete Hines are great and all but at the end of the day, MICROSOFT owns Bethesda period. Even if they wanted the games to be on PlayStation, that should be shot down immediately by Microsoft’s Satya Nadella period.
- Having Bethesda games be on PlayStation 5 but yet, all of the other studios are only working on Xbox/PC makes no fucking sense in any way, shape or form.
- At this point, why not have Halo, Gears, Forza and everything else available on PlayStation 5? After all, they would already be about halfway there so why not go full circle and fuck it all up completely and put all those games and franchises on PlayStation 5?
- Now, at this point, there’s no valid reason for anyone to stay with the Xbox eco-system. What? Game Pass? Uh, no. Majority don’t give a shit about it. Xbox One has sold 60m or so consoles. Game Pass is only 18m give or take. What happened to the other 40m+? Simple. They don’t care about Game Pass so try again. Also, like me, vast majority are simply not going to play every Bethesda game as everyone will pick and choose what they really want to play which in this case, they will just buy the games on PlayStation 5 or PC.
- Will cause confusion, dissension, strife and whatever else because half the people will be pissed because it’s not even, fair or balanced whatsoever. Also, if you’re at Bethesda doing extra work and not getting paid extra money and bonuses, well, there’s another issue to deal with.
- Microsoft spent $7.5B on ZeniMax and in no way, shape or form are you spending all this money just so you can help Sony while at the same time, hurting your own brand. Makes absolutely no fucking sense. At that point, what would even be the reason of buying ZeniMax? Could have just let Google or whoever else buy them because not much of a difference. The result would be the same - no actual benefit to Xbox brand, eco-system or Xbox user base.
Other -
- Here’s something that I haven’t seen anyone mention and if someone has mentioned it, please link it to me.
- Microsoft announced the ZeniMax acquisition the DAY BEFORE pre-orders went live for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. All of them sold out and continue to sell out as stores get more shipments in. Vast majority of gamers/consumers who weren’t already an Xbox dedicated fan (like me) or a scalper (those fucking assholes) pre-ordered and bought the Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S and continue to do based on this massive announcement.
- Bethesda’s games being multi-platform will 100% piss off every single gamer/consumer who has since purchased an Xbox Series X and/or Xbox Series S based on the logical common sense of well, they own them now and thus, every future game will be exclusive to the Xbox eco-system so if you want to play these games on console, the ONLY place to do so would be on Xbox.
Also -
- Sony has paid for several games to be full/timed console exclusives and content as well including Spider Man being exclusively in the PlayStation versions of The Avengers. Shitty or not, this IS a brilliant move by Sony because it’s giving the gamer/consumer valid reasons to jump into THEIR eco-system. Not everyone will own both an Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 and if you only have one, you’re going to want the one that has as many games as possible because everything else is secondary at best. Microsoft and Xbox is being left out in the cold freezing their balls off. No reason to be friendly with Sony whatsoever.
- This may be mean but let’s be honest, Xbox fans are used to waiting for games to possibly/eventually/perhaps come to their console of choice. I’m not someone who’s waiting. I’m not waiting “just to see” if a game I want to play is coming to the “other” platform just to play it. Project Athia is a two year timed exclusive that im interested in and if it’s great, I will be playing it day one on PlayStation 5 because im not waiting two years to play it on Xbox Series X and that’s if Square Enix even decides to still port and release it on Xbox Series X/S to begin with.
For me personally, at 42, im old school, period. If you are a console manufacturer and have an eco-system, you 100% need to support it all with exclusive games and content in order to make it valuable in my eyes. If you have 100% the same exact shit (meaning games) that the other platforms have, I simply don’t need your platform do I? If Sony had their exclusives on Xbox, I would have literally no reason to own a PlayStation 5. See how that works?
Exclusive games and content IS a NECESSITY. Not a luxury because if you don’t have this, you will simply decrease the reasons gamers/consumers have to jump in to your eco-system and in turn, invest their money into it. Sony has and continues to dominate for 25 years. Nintendo as well but to a lesser extent. Why do people think that it? First and foremost, it’s because both of them do what they need to do for their own platform and eco-system. They give their fans reasons to invest into their respective eco-systems and those reasons are again, exclusive games and content that you simply can’t play anywhere else. In other words, they’re making their brand and eco-system more valuable which in turn makes it more appealing.
Hell, I owned a Switch for two years to play five exclusives and I don’t give two shits about Nintendo yet they got me to buy their console and four games at the full $60 price tag. Fifth game was Kingdom Battle which was technically Ubisoft for anyone wondering why I said four games instead of five.
I have been the most hyped for Xbox in over a decade, easily. Since TGA 2019 and seeing the specifications get revealed, I was in. Once Sony revealed their specifications or lack there of, my decision was made. XBOX SERIES X would end up being my primary gaming console and where 90% of my money, time and investment goes into for the next 6-8 years.
This may sound like complete bullshit, exaggeration, hyerbole, fanboyism or just me being a fucking idiotic moronic jackass but if Microsoft decides to release the Bethesda games on PlayStation 5, this will be the final generation that I ever buy, own, support and invest into Microsoft and Xbox simply because instead of adding reasons for me to do so, they’re subtracting them instead. Not exactly how you get gamers/consumers into your eco-system. I don’t have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime just for the hell of it or because im a millionaire (im definitely not) that wants to give them my money. It’s because they have exclusive shows and content that I can’t watch on the other two subscription services.
Whatever anyone says or believes, at the end of the day, you invest into something because not only do you feel like it’s the best choice for you but because you feel that you will get games, TV shows, entertainment, fun, content, etc. that you won’t get anywhere else.
As im sure people can see if they didn’t already, I feel extremely strong about this. I believe that the hardware manufacturers should NOT be friendly with each other or buddy buddy especially when one of the three (in this case Microsoft and in other cases as well, Microsoft) gets absolutely nothing in return. Makes absolutely no sense.
In my eyes, it’s an easy decision for Microsoft to make but if they fuck it up and show me that im not important to have in their eco-system then neither is getting my money, time or investment.
One added note in conclusion of this long ass fucking post, when it comes to exclusive games, I have high expectations. Sony meets or exceeds those expectations the vast majority of the time. Nintendo while of no interest to me does in fact have high quality polished exclusive games. I can’t argue or deny that. Microsoft hasn’t come close to meeting my expectations since Xbox 360 and in general, over a decade. They must start meeting and eventually exceeding my expectations for their exclusive games and having Bethesda being 100% fully exclusive even if a few games are not for me but end up being great fucking games will get them closer to meeting and hopefully, eventually exceeding my expectations.
Anyway, im off to wrap up Marvel’s Spider Man: Miles Morales, EXCLUSIVELY on PlayStation 5 and after this, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in June. As obviously clear by now, EXCLUSIVE games and content fucking matters for your brand, eco-system and to your fanbase.
Please don’t disappoint and let me down Microsoft. Not asking for much. Only what is expected.
We had Jeff Grubb recently saying he absolutely believes the games will be exclusive and Matty seemed pretty sure about Starfield’s exclusivity too. Jeff very likely knows a bit more details than others it seems.
All in all, my position is always clear - after Sony’s attempt to moneyhat Starfield - MS should make everything exclusive once and for all.
I mean Spider-man did not even come out on PC. So…
I thought they even should’ve tried to get Deathloop and Ghostwire out of the pre existing deal as well…no more Mr. Nice Guy, go all in.
AGREE
When everything will be known I believe for a lot of people it would event aking “I am finally free”
Indiana Jones will be exclusive.
I can’t be the only one who thought of this scene when it came out that Sony tried to buy exclusivity for Starfield before Microsoft purchased Zenimax lol.
Need somebody with user After Effects and put Spencer’s head there
Everything will be exclusive except the mmo games in my opinion its how they get far more subs too gamepass.
Wolfie 3 to PS? Meh, I say, screw that too. If you want to play the third one, you gotta get a Xbox or just subscribe to Game Pass.
I mean Hellblade 2 is a sequel too, right? But it’s Xbox only.
I wonder if they make an video event, how many viewers will be there?
I bet most of the Playstation and Xbox forum community will want to see the event.
True, but Hellblade was never as big as Wolfenstein and is act ii in an ongoing series, Wolfenstein 3 is the fifth and final game in the rebooted saga. I suspect something like Prey 2 would be exclusive but Wolf 3 is a bit of a weird case.
I still see them doing timed exclusive + next gen exclusive if they decide to bring it to PlayStation, but again it’s up in the air. Idk.
Everything is multiplat new or old except some cases, if Bethesda teams want to make a project using full XSX power and can’t be achieved in any other way.
Bethesda always was for everyone, don’t know what the point of making it exclusive especially with Game Pass?
Actually leaving it on PS4 but not on PS5 make sense too -due to backwards compatibility PS5 owners will be able to play it anyway.
I’m betting they will be exclusive (except the MMOs) , otherwise I consider it the most useless acquisition ever. Day one gamepass is good and all, but having such big games as Fallout, Doom and Elders Scrolls, etc… exclusives to your platform is a no precedent oportunity to Xbox expands considerably its ecosystem.
Unless Sony plans on allowing Game Pass on PlayStation, Bethesda’s games will be exclusive to Xbox and PC.
I could still see the odd Switch port here and there where it makes sense.
