Mario Wonder :top:

Next Alan Wake II prolly.

Completed Marvel’s Spider Man 2. 100% total completion. Approximately 45 total hours.

Overall, an excellent game with superb visuals, excellent combat/gameplay and a great story/characters even though at times, the writing could be better. Majority of the story missions are good to great and a few things in the side content was good. Wing suit is awesome! Music is really good and voice acting is top notch. Negatives would be all the other side content which is just basic stuff or collectibles, second map looks great but doesn’t change or add anything different to what the first map has.

Stealth sections with Mary Jane while better than 2018 are still bad. The suction during combat is still annoying as there’s times I wanted to go attack a certain enemy but couldn’t. Had about four or five technical issues. Massive pop-in and clipping through NPC’s, vehicles materializing, one issue with the button prompts not appearing and two audio issues. The last three issues led to restarting the game itself. First two, I kept playing with no issues. An excellent game overall though.

  • Visuals - 10/10 (great)
  • Audio - 8.5/10 (great)
  • Gameplay/Combat - 9.0/10 (excellent)
  • Story/Characters - 8.5/10 (great)
  • Overall - 9.0/10 (excellent)

Thanks for the impressions! How did you score the first game (and Miles)?

You’re welcome Mort.

All three are basically identical. 9.0/10 overall. The categories are somewhat different and for last generation which includes the first Spider Man game, I had a 5th category for side content which I only rated in open world games. A year or so ago, I decided to eliminate this category for this generation mainly because I would always go back and forth in regards to non-open world games like Outriders or Halo Infinite.

As you know, I do like the vast majority of Sony’s games as they’re for me but I can acknowledge that they’re rarely a 10/10 like a lot of people think they are and the open world games are basically this generation’s version of Ubisoft open world check list games.

Man I just finished it too haha.

Finished Spider-Man 2. This might be my favourite Peter Parker and Venom story to date.

Set pieces, story, gameplay were all top notch as usual. Iconic moments and reveals as well. Also the traversal system might be my favourite in any video game, it’s a sin for gliding to feel that good.

Yet despite all of that, I come away feeling a bit like how I did with FH5. It’s the best game in the franchise yet I’m starting to feel fatigue with its formula.

Solid 8.5, I’d give it a 9 but that fatigue towards the end is just something I couldn’t ignore. Definitely in my top 5 of the year though.

Thanks. I haven’t played Miles yet but I did play through the first one and all its dlc. I would score it a bit lower haha. As a Ubisoft-fan I have not been impressed with any of the Sony attempts at it that I’ve played so far, it’s a hard thing to get right it seems.

Some of the things you bring up are things that annoyed me to no end in the first game; the combat lock on thingie, the meh tacked on side content and last but not least those awful stealth sections. I like stealth games, but that wasn’t it.

Is the story less predictable? A good narrative can trump a lot of things for me.

My update on this is that I finished Somerville (pretty good), Dordogne (good), Cocoon (great) and I’m halfway through Planet of Lana.

Progress!

I did play and complete The City That Never Sleeps expansion for the first game. Rated it an 8.0/10 but when it comes to expansions/dlc, I only give it an overall score since it uses the base game as the foundation. It was good though. In all honesty, I have enjoyed all three Spider Man games and the expansion.

In regards to Ubisoft, I love Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima especially and Days Gone. Tsushima has some open world check list stuff but it has story quest lines with supporting characters. Think of them as a faction quest line in Starfield. And the boss fights were awesome.

Anyway, Ubisoft is my favorite company but I do think HZD and Tsushima surpass majority of their games for me because with Ubisoft, it’s same damn franchises over and over. It’s why I was so hyped for the Immortals sequel. New IP but stylized world, puzzles, etc. like BOTW so it was something different. I also have a decent amount of Sony’s open world games ahead of a few AC games and a few Far Cry games because they’re simply better overall games.

I would say the story is predictable if you’re a Marvel Spider Man fan. I haven’t watched any of the movies and don’t care about the comics so I wasn’t expecting some stuff and had no idea who Kraven was until I played the game. I would say the last few missions are predictable but by then, it doesn’t matter because you’re at the end of the game anyway.

Side content can be skipped for the most part. There are one or two that are really good because there’s a little bit of a story to them. Activity/collectible wise, I did these pretty quick as they were popping up in the world.

One thing is certain, the side content is not amazing or this or that like so many were saying pre-launch. Like it’s not matching or coming close to say the AC Origins/Odyssey, Cyberpunk, The Witcher 3, Starfield or even Tsushima to be honest. Best thing I can say about this stuff is that none of the side content overstays it’s welcome except maybe the Spider Bots collectible but even this didn’t take me long.

Still playing Starfield, on NG+ and making my way through the questlines(about to finish Ryujin for the 2nd time), planning on doing the Crimson Fleet next and this will be my first time.

Started with The Pie is Lies(Lies of P) and have been working towards the first non tutorial boss. Enjoying what’s(since we can’t dodge those charged up attacks) is interesting for a game that’s more souls than rhythm game like Sekiro. Now I suck at Rhythm games so this could become an issue later on.

Also playing some Halo Infinite MP, my connection is ass and for every good matches I can get I will get just as many bad ones. So far haven’t really jumped into much of the new content and have no interest in any of the cosmetics since I was given the Athlon helmet and the armor that matches the closes to my Halo 5 Athlon Spartan.

Been also playing Party Animals, the game is pretty fun with simple enough mechanics, have yet to win but have gotten close at least twice in quickplay team matches. I have taken a shine to the goofy looking dino and it’s toothy smile.

So didn’t a week on the final boss of lies of P and was getting really close to dropping it but stuck with it and finally finished it with the good ending.

Moved on to like a dragon Inshin and I’m up to chapter 4. Been pretty decent so far. Might try some jusaunt to mix it up.

And still cooling away at the new season of halo. Glad that is doing so well again.

Impulse bought this. Let’s see if it sets the mood for Halloween…

Got a couple missions past A High Price to Pay in Starfield’s main questline.

Anyone else think this mission is really poorly structured if you decide to not defend the Lodge? If you pick this option, you need to leave the Lodge, run to the spaceport, take off in your ship, dock on the Eye, land back on the planet, return to the Lodge, escape the Hunter by running back to the spaceport (again), take off in your ship (again), and dock at the Eye (again). It is like a messy loop. Structurally, it makes way more sense to just defend the Lodge. Imo the choice to defend the Lodge or rush to the Eye should have been made while in orbit of the planet.

I finished Super Mario Bros. Wonder yesterday. Imaginative is a good word to describe this game, but late game levels are simply outstanding. It is really hard to surpass Nintendo when they are on top of their game. I will try to 100% it before the end of the year.

On to Alan Wake II.
