I know it’s an “oldie” but this Killswitch has helped get me through the week:
I saw them live a few weeks back. OMG they are great!!!
This video…damn.
Loving this.
Didn’t expect someone to post Matthew Dear, but here we are. Great pick, personally a huge fan of the album Asa Breed in particular.
Happy Bleed the Future and Kin release day!
Limp Bizkit dropped their new album today and as a long-time fan, I’m really enjoying it. Track 1 really sets the tone:
Yeah, I’ve been listening to it multiple times across the weekend. Fun ride, just wish it lasted longer.
SHOEGAAAAZE
Is this their Stampede of the Disco Elephants album and they just changed the name of it? Personally I thought they were heading in a better direction with The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) album back in 2005 when they abandoned the rapping and matured. Unfortunately that didn’t last and I remember feeling disappointed when they reverted back on Gold Cobra.
Porcupine Tree to release their first album in 12 years with CLOSURE/CONTINUATION coming out 24 June 2022
I don’t think it’s known what’s happening here exactly, but my headcanon is that this isn’t Stampede at all. Not sure if that work is scrapped or pushed aside for the moment, but think about it: take away the acoustics, the INXS cover, the skits, and this is like 15-20 mins of new Limp Bizkit content. There’s Halloween references since the album debuted then, there’s a direct call to Dad Vibes’ iconic la-di-da part and so on. I’m quite convinced they put this mini-album together after the positive word of mouth they received after the Lollapalooza live set, perhaps even implementing some hooks and ideas from Stampede. But giben they released like 5 singles off that album and they sounded nothing like this, I’d be surprised if this had anything to do with it.
The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) is a very interesting project, going for a more serious crossover tone they never really attempted before, not even in their earliest days. I would love to hear more akin to that style, but I also really dig the self-referential stupidity of Gold Cobra, and by extention this album’s too. In an ideal world, they’d have an album out every 2-3 years where they can alternate both styles and perhaps try even newer things - after all, the earliest Stampede singles were released under Cash Money of all records, with a clear idea of going towards a more radio-friendly hip-hop approach and less of the nu metal stuff. They can experiment, but Still Sucks is quite clearly just them playing into their “dad rock” memes and the fact metalheads hate them, and they’re perfectly fine with that. I think that if the album is well received, they may feel motivated to push further again.
I know it’s definitely not everyone’s thing but McCoy Tyner is one of my favorite classic jazz musicians and is a solid pianist. https://youtu.be/n-KLFp40wWE https://youtu.be/WTgls_vR3ME I’ve been hitting the replay button on this song specifically the past few days. Just a really solid song. https://youtu.be/dhRFc2_wyNk
I’m getting an old-school Fugees vibe from this one:
