Absolutely, so many albums/artists are tied to phases and places in my life.

So wonderful that we have a great Massive Attack following here along with you and I  Looking at you @Harm0nica and @anon15396042!

Always loved Massive Attack. Even their less well recieved stuff. When 100th Window landed & all the music critics were giving the album a hard time, I was lying in my room with my headphones on just immersed in the depth of those tunes.

100th Windows is a massively underrated album; considering it was only Robert on the album with Grant and Andrew leaving the group (though Grant has since returned in varying capacity), I think it was always bound to be different. I can understand why it was jarring on initial listens, but there are so many tracks on the album that sit at the top of their output, for me. ‘Butterfly Caught’, ‘Future Proof’, ‘Name Taken, and as you mentioned, ‘Small Time Shot Away’ are some of the greatest musical scapes produced by Massive Attack in my opinion. 2002 was also when I was becoming heavily political, and ‘Prayer for England’ was such an important release at that time in my life (what the world did to Sinead is a travesty, especially as a former Catholic, now Atheist).

Their compilation release, Collected, also had some incredible versions of some of those tracks: ‘Small Time Shoot ‘Em Up’ with the absolutely equal legend, Damon Albarn, took an already amazing track and mutated it with new meaning. Even ‘Butterfly Caught’ has a slightly altered version, with more pronounced rhythm guitar and orchestration… it’s arguably even better than the already amazing album edition.

… sorry, I could write about Massive Attack for hours: they were one of the most influential groups that shaped my musical proclivities and served as a large inspiration for my own music.

Edit: Meant to also mention how amazing Neil Davidge is, and his contributions as producer to MA over the years cannot be overstated. Also, he created one of my favorite videogame scores: Halo 4.

Honestly, in my opinion Neil Davidge’s score was the best thing about Halo 4 but that’s another story for another thread.

There are a lot of Massive Attack fans here I see, well it’s a great band that’s for sure…Protection is my favorite album as well (though Blue Lines and Mezzanine are top notch as well).

If anyone is interested in a mix of Massive Attack, Public Image Ltd. with a pinch of Godflesh’s sludge and industrial layers should check out the Scorn album I posted about a week ago here (Evanescence is the title of the album so don’t worry :stuck_out_tongue: ). Radiohead is an amazing band as well, a few weeks ago I was listening to Kid A and OK Computer and I realized that every time I return to them I find them even more special.

Doves were one of my favourite bands back in the day, when I was young & carefree, in a band & harbouring wonderful childish dreams of becoming a rock star.

They took a long break but came back last year. Thankfully they came back in fine form. https://youtu.be/9a239ZI3iYI

Oh wow, I haven’t listened to Doves for ages thanks for the reminder @anon15396042

My eldest and I listened to the new Foos album yesterday while we played with lego and had hot chocolate following ice skating all day. Enjoyable enough album to listen to. My daughter loved this song, since she said it sounded like a Beck song at the beginning, which made me a bit proud

See now I stuck myself down a Beck hole… Ahem

Someone has managed to put together “Cities” from Soundshapes from the in game samples so there is no in game FX bothering it.

I loved Soundshapes.
