Hardware Sales

PlayStation 5 – 64.869 (3.121.981)

Switch – 59.901 (28.499.617)

Xbox Series X|S – 2.887 (433.037)

PlayStation 4 – 1.602 (9.431.894)

3DS – 97 (24.598.878)

Alright, first off I was wrong about Octopath 2 leaving the top 10 last week. Still here. Most JRPGs that didn’t have big marketing have usually left by now so maybe the good word of mouth is helping it out. As I’ve been saying since announcement though, vast vast majority of sales will be on Switch.

Hogwarts is still here too. This is possibly the longest a PS5 title has held on to the top 10.

Fatal Frame sold almost equally on Switch/PS. There was no physical for the PS5 release. Good enough sales I think, remasters tend to not be that big in Japan. For the West it’s the first time we received this title so it could sell better here.

There was a bump in Xbox sales. Series X wins the split, by a lot

PlayStation 5 – 40.411 (3.162.392)

PlayStation 4 – 1.115 (9.436.266)

Xbox Series X|S – 555 (433.592)

3DS – 138 (24.599.041)

Not much to say. PS5 hardware sales are “stabalizing” to a less intense number, already Switch is king again lol. Software sales are pretty low all around this week, nothing new really released besides Bayo Origins. Bayonetta really isn’t popular in Japan so this wasn’t unexpected. One interesting thing is that this was a “budget priced” game in Japan but full price in the West. Octopath 2 held on to the top 10 again, the sales number is starting to look alright now IMO (RIP the Playstation versions though, which is also seemingly true in the West as well), word of mouth is saving this game. Hogwarts held on too.

Xbox hit a 555 lol. As usual Series X won, Series S is selling close to nothing now

Microsoft should be proud. /s

We never got the Famitsu Top 30 last week, but this time we did. Now I can confirm something…

Octopath Traveler 2’s Playstation versions, both of them, are no longer in the Top 30… As shown before, Switch’s is still in the Top 10.

Square can’t be happy with how this game has performed on Playstation. Even in the West the PS versions of OT2 haven’t done well. Poor positions on Amazon and even the PS digital Top Played. I really do think they were hoping those versions would help bolster the game past the original’s sales. I would not be surprised at all if the future of HD2D on Playstation is uncertain.

Might go back to Nintendo-marketed temp exclusives → PC later I think.

would like to see numbers. MS gimping sales by having low series X stock. Went to about 5 target stores and 1 of them had 1 in stock while PS5 was dozens in stock. I work as a Vendor so I’m going to many retail outlets a lot. Series X stock is absolutely pitiful.

I’m hoping MS are hoarding them for Redfall and Starfield.

I suspect series consoles still sold well enough. Especially since HOgwarts did well for both platforms accordingly.

Doubt it’s any different from the previous months.

PS5 is extending the gap every other month. We’ll see how the momentum shifts once Starfield comes out.

I don’t think Redfall is moving any sort of needle.

Redfall should definitely have needles.

I’m not worried, although Xbox hardware will always be there, they were always preparing for the long game. People can tout about npd sales for Ps5 and all but the future is software and multiplatform ecosystem. The big wigs at Microsoft would never approve the ABK deal just for console sales. Its no coincidence that regulators are scared about their hypothetical dominance in the cloud gaming market and Microsoft using their political power to bring light about 3rd party timed exclusivity and exclusionary contracts also makes you think a little. Sony themselves might be feeling the pressure despite their wins right now, especially when regulators shut down their arguments.

The focus on console sales for Microsoft is very dumb and I hate it

Oh no, Playstation consoles sitting unwanted on store shelves. :parrot:

I think thats the talking point the fanboys had used for Microsoft console hardware last year. So they should be saying the same thing now for their own brand, right?

Edit: I do wish Microsoft had more supply of consoles all around.

Agreed.

Hogwarts was a system seller.

Selling consoles I think is equally important. The more consoles you sell, the more third parties will be willing to develop for your platform. The more consoles you sell, the fewer third parties will be willing to skip the platform and make exclusivity deals with Sony. Not all developers rely on cloud gaming and Game Pass: it is also important to them that a console sells enough to publish the games on it.

Your right that its important in the short term, but long term it might not matter, as what I said earlier, moneyhats might be more scrutinized by regulators, especially with the EU investigating exclusionary agreements, plus the effects of DMA of breaking down walled barriers. Its gonna be down to who offers the best ecosystem, which includes consoles, PC, cloud and mobile.

Which is exactly why Microsoft has their Developer Tools that allow to support building the game for BOTH Xbox Console AND PC while minimizing the effort.

NDP isn’t just about consoles guys lol. It includes PC sales as well.
