Video Game Market Analysis Thread

About 300k come from Japan.

Probably poised to eventually come a million seller. Not too shabby for a game that kinda underperformed at launch but then started getting serious word of mouth from industry legends like Sakurai and Yoko Taro. The late Switch port definitely helped as well.

Sadly the anniversary stream basically confirms that Vanillaware is separate from Sega/Atlus’s multiplat push/initiative, as no PC (or Xbox) port was announced there. Xbox won’t happen till MS pays but I think they’re missing out hard by not being on PC.

3 years already? Felt like it was barely 1. Time must have gone by really fast on my end…

  • Switch OLED – 99,863
  • PS5 – 45,530
  • Switch – 32,926
  • Switch Lite – 23,338
  • Xbox Series S – 9,031
  • PS5 Digital Edition – 5,390
  • Xbox Series X- 2,908
  • PS4 – 2,220
  • New 2DS LL – 65

Sony is sending crazy amount of consoles to Japan. Xbox had also a big amount.

Holiday season. And I guess the good news about seeing big Xbox shipments now is, if the “Famitsu course correct” theory is true, it -does- actually mean they are sending bigger Xbox shipments for the holiday season.

It seems Sony is solving PS5 supply issues for Japan, which probably plays into why their number has been decent lately. I’ve also heard PS5 scalper prices over there are beginning to falter.

FFXVI is saved!

In fact, with just four weeks on sale, Modern Warfare 2 almost outsold Call of Duty: Vanguard’s lifetime sales to date.

The UK market has been ultra competitive this year.

The only shame is that Sony is able to achieve by selling expensive overpriced console while Microsoft has to offer cheap console - Series S or cheaper than PS5 Series X. They really need to find a way to get back “must have” energy to Xbox that existed in Xbox 360 era.

I know Vanguard wasn’t popular and MW2 is very popular but that’s absurd for any series but especially CoD

Theyre selling consoles despite lack of major first oarty software

Crazy

Not much to say about the software side. Some games that haven’t been in the top 10 for a while have come back, must be Christmas gifts.

Xbox’s holiday boost looks to be over already lol, back to normal. PS4 seems to be clearing out back stock that retailers were saving for holidays.

Jim Ryan personally apologized to Japanese audiences on Playstation Awards for bad PS5 stock to Japan for a while and said they have done changes to fix this, so I’m not gonna expect anymore Xbox > PS5 weeks lol.

The Switch sale makes me question, who hasn’t got one by this point? Almost feels like it covered the population.

A bit over 20% of Japan’s population has a Switch yeah. Still plenty who don’t though, so still plenty to sell to lol

Another thing is that kids born in 2017 have become sentient enough to enjoy getting a Switch as a gift now lol

Not going to lie, I thought the population was low.

Oh yeah, Horizon Forbidden West in the top 10. Bundled game for this week looks like.

Here is where these bundle games are ending up:

Damn. Lol. Thanks for the explanation.

“Who do you want me to sign it for?”

“Ebay?”

“That’s a popular one!”

Handhelds have more sales opportunities than regular consoles. For example parents with multiple kids might buy one PS5 or XBX for the kids to share (on one TV), alternatively they might buy a Switch for each kid. The handheld nature of the Switch also means it gets more abuse during travel, or it gets lost/stolen meaning having to buy another.
