Video Game Market Analysis Thread

Want to know another cool statistic?! Adding up the sales of R&C: Rift Apart + HFW + GT7 doesn’t give the total number of Forza Horizon 5 players. It’s 2022 and there are still people who don’t know that the main success metric of a game for Microsoft is its engagement.

How to say you don’t understand the different market eccosystems without saying you don’t understand the different market ecosystems.

The player reach and engagement of Gamepass titles dwarf anything based on individual sales.

Exactly and it’s funny he didn’t mention game-pass at all.

lol

Its a joke that so many still live in this bizarro world where boxed (and digital to a degree) sales define game success, just like console sales single handedly determine generation victory.

like are people sleeping on the fact that the most successful FREE TO PLAY games of the last 5 years shit on any of SONY’s biggest games of the last decade.

GT sport got reported to have what sold 15 ish mill? cool cool, lets just ignore that the game was given away in happy meals a mere month after release here in the UK becasue nobody was biting at full RRP (little exageration, but not by much).

20 mill people having paid money in some form to play Forza horizon regularly is infintely better than <10mill buying HFW and GT7 in the intial 6 months for them to then sit in their wrapper or be played a total of an hour then never again.

Lastly both GT7 and HFW both FACTUALLY UNDERPERFORMED, how do I know this you say? easy , SONY is a simple creature, they like to chest beat when their stuff does well, seriously look at other games and products that have done well. It’s pretty glearing when they are silent on certain products, and if i’m not mistaken those games have been out what 4 - 5 months? no update on sales numbers at all?

Guess they just forgot to click send on the twitter account right.

Funny, looks like somehow Sony/PS quarter results pinched a sensitive nerve in some newcomers.

This analysis is akin to saying Sony’s in trouble because their profits were down 30% (despite revenue being up); it’s leaving out obvious info.

Hahahaha!!! Now I’ve see you are a delusional troll.

That Sony quarterly report must really hurt you.:joy:

There is no need or reason to cross-compare the systems unless your only interest is console-war rhetoric.

Sony’s measurement of success is their own.

Microsoft’s measurement of success is their own.

Yeah, Sony’s report really did a number on some people. I saw even some people conflating Sony revenue with SIE and then aiming at winning over Tencent in revenue next year with SIE’s brillaint moves :joy:

Let’s cut down the “us vs. them” rhetoric, please. Thanks!

The only market which saw growth is subscriptions

Sub services are boon for the industry

Microsoft couldn’t have chosen better time then this to invest big guns on gaming space

This industry need new business models and that’s what Phil always say about Gamepass and it’s retail/digital offerings

There is a place for everything

Consumer engagement is the most important factor

I am not surprised the company that tried pushing $70 games as their main profit driver is experiencing profit drops during a historic inflation event. It is kind of like raising the cost of games during an economic crisis was a horrible idea.

I think they knew the writing was on the wall, which is why there was a scramble to put together a subscription service that was actually worth a damn.

Sony’s miss steps are not as prominent as xbox one’s was but they are clearly headed that way

All though xbox made all the right moves afterwards. Xbox’s transition into PC was the first step and luckily, it was the easiest for them do so because well they are the PC

Then they changed how business is done in the market via Gamepass

Next they brought in xCloud with great intentions and are sticking to it

And currently they are making Gamepass the best service possible as soon as then can

MS truly believes in a rising tide will rise everyone

They strategically want everyone to grow

Sony’s has already walking in the same path… Currently they are in PC transition. Next will be the Live service games and then they might go day and date?

Only time will tell

PS5 Stock is getting better and better.

Sony wasn’t kidding

I believe they said recently that they won’t increase price for the time being. If so, more power to you.

Didn’t realise RE7 had sold that much

Dragons Dogma is surprising too, Capcom doing very well

That’s huge, Microsoft will likely be sniffing around EA (again) after ABK is done.

Over 40% profit margin, won’t increase game prices. How is that even possible?!
