There are too many conflicting info about Kojima, until official announcements I will be wary of ANY rumour, I’ve already heared too many bullshits from all spectrum of sources: journos, insiders, fanboys, etc…
So basically…
Gematsu appeared with a rumor that Kojima is making SH for Sony.
Grubb said it wouldn’t surprise him, since the letter of intent had no mandates that Kojima can’t work with others too.
Millie on Reddit leaks said it’s not true, with Andy Robinson liking or agreeing with that post? He also said the journalist of Gematsu is great, but doubts the source.
Lastly, our own Nick says it’s not true and Kojima is actually working on an existing IP.
This correct? So it doesn’t have to be a Xbox IP, could be any IP?
correct .
Very interesting.
Yesterday we had some people saying it’s only normal that Xbox can’t mandate what a studio that isn’t theirs does, which I agree with. But let’s say they agree on a game and he starts making it, he can still approach other companies and agree to make games too.
So basically these companies put trust in eachother that they won’t “abuse” this trust, like the rumors we had about Platinum that they used resources for Scalebound to make other games. Whether true or not we’ll never know.
The tricky thing here is, for big studios it’s not a problem, but Kojima’s studio isn’t exactly large, is it? So ideally if Xbox Kojima IS true he just sticks to that project with his team until the finish and then start work on other games. Yesterday I saw some concern that if he makes two games at the same time he’ll prioritize the one we all expect he will.
I wonder if there should be a rule or law that makes sure this trust won’t be abused, I guess the only way would be to actually have that in the letter of intent.
Yeah he “wanted” but he didn’t, maybe he’s still dreaming of going back to it. Calling it MGL Metal Gear Liquid lol
I would assume the contracts stipulate milestones, deliverables (etc) and the negative impacts if not met.
i want to see Kojima working on a multiplayer cloud powered Viva Pinata 3.
I agree, Kojima is free to do multiple projects, Grubb said as much. No one should be going “how is MS letting Kojima do this? they should sign him into an exclusive non-compete contract!” lol.
But yeah, saying “MS is focusing on games that matter” is derisive of the games being talked about, especially when you insinuate further about a remake saying it’s low budget with absolute no evidence whatsoever. It’s sad because it muddies the rest of your case when you’re willing to disingenuously put down the projects being talked to make your case appear stronger.
The former, https://youtu.be/l0d0UI36QRA start at 1:11:57.
Low budget may be the wrong term, but aspyr is a port studio. It’s hard to imagine a high budget game made by them considering their history.
And even then, I believe my case still stands because KOTOR is one game.
Thank you very much!
Oh yeah I remember seeing that in the job listing too about mech and tech and few other things tyoical of a Kojima game.
Maybe it is Zone Of the Enders 3 (existing IP)
Kojima cancelled the ZOE 3 project in the past unfortunately. Maybe he wanted to come back to it.
Yeah it was the wrong term. Firstly, the developer doesn’t decide the budget, the publisher does, in this case it’s Lucasfilm (the licenser) and Sony (on console). Unless there’s evidence to say this is actually low budget, saying that so definitively is simply disingenuous because we have no idea. Further you extrapolated that from them being a port studio, which is again irrelevant if they’re specifically staffing up big for this (which they are), and maybe the very fact of them getting to do this over more prestigious studios can indicate there was a strong pitch for both Lucasfilm to give it to them and for Sony to actually publish this game on their console, which is a lot more risk than just moneyhatting it. Iron Galaxy is predominantly a port studio, yet they took over KI to much positive reception. Studios are regularly given opportunities to evolve their identity and become more than they were, no reason to think Aspyr cannot do that.
Secondly, this is still a circular argument. Aspyr say it’s their biggest and most ambitious project yet, but it can’t be big budget because… of their past history? Realize how that begs the question?
If it’s hard to imagine Aspyr making a high budget remake for some reason, why am I not reading similar rhetoric when it comes a racing game developer rebooting a beloved RPG franchise? They obviously no experience with the genre, hence must be reason for derision, right?
There’s multiple Silent Hill games in development, it’s not just one single title. There’s supposed to be a remake of the original and a new entry. Millie has said this and Dusk Golem mentioned this like two years ago. Silent Hill isn’t just one game and that’s it.
Yeah, and Bloober is doing one (presumably) . If Kojima is doing one that would mean there are 3? Seems a bit much.
Guess the Hill isn’t as Silent if everyone and their dog is making a game about it.
Three is possible. I keep seeing people say a new entry and a remake of Silent Hill which would be 2. Kojima could be working on Silent Hill/P.T. but perhaps doesn’t use the name but is a Silent Hill game. I don’t know exactly but I know there’s at least two Silent Hill games in development. One by Bloober Team but no clue who the other studio is.
I have a strong gut feeling that the other one is by Koei Tecmo
That would be interesting.
