When comparing this to XSX and PS5… is that on par with it? Or better…specs wise?

Best knows best.

The controller is something. It looks impractical, heavy and just too big. Also, wrong sticks placement. I guess you could use an Xbox controller instead.

They sure love their trackpad.

I can’t wait to see this turn out to be as tepidly-received as the Deck (by comparison to the big three consoles, no matter how much the media like to pretend it’s the biggest seller), or the vaporware that was the decades-old Steam Machines…

In all seriousness, competition is good but I honestly see absolutely no value in this just like I did with the Deck. Even if you’re a gamer, there are some pretty big blind spots in Steam’s library; I just see no purpose for this, personally if the next Xboxes are going to bridge the console back compat and PC gap…

Deck worked because there was no other machine at the time than Switch or at least something that made people took notice. Console would be a different story, but I’ll bet they would know that by starting out small. I give them credit for knowing when to expand and how they should start. That they’re good at that.

The hardware for the Steam Machine is too weak and outdated esp. when the PS6 and next Xbox are coming within a year after its release.

But I will watch with interest to see if Sony continue to release their games on steam IF this turns out to be somewhat successful (highly doubt it, I think it will sell worse than the deck). I think Sony will be wary of the moves Valve are trying to make and might pivot with their own PC store.

Yeah I think Sony will still put their games on Steam but might do day and date with their own PC storefront

Far lower on the GPU front than either, CPU is solid.

Ah, that’s disappointing.

If it’s not any better than what I got now with my XSX I see zero reason to invest in this. Sounds like I won’t need one for third parties. XSX will be the place for that for me until next Xbox.

Yeah, that would make more sense.

It’s lower performance measurement than a PS5 [~9TF vs 10TF].

It has RDNA3, so it would NOT have FSR4.

It has limited VRAM size for how it’s marketed.

It’s a fine 1080p system.

I have a ROG NUC 2024. I have to see where does the Steam machine compare in power to it. I love that we are getting new hardware

Yeahjhh, this ain’t gonna cut it then. It will be 2026 when it launches and to come with a console that isn’t even fully on par at all with what we have now I just disappointing and for me personally…pointless.

I think my trusty black box that I got here will do me just fine for the remainder of the generation. New consoles are always exciting though.

If it’s less power than current gen consoles, only pricing can make this attractive.

The way it’s marketed still grinds my gears. They say its 6x a Steam Deck and is a 4K system.

Doing the simple napkin math: SteamDeck is 720p targets. SteamBox is 4K targets. Resolution wise, 4K ix 16x more pixels than 720p. It’s 6x as powerful. But needs to handle 16x more.

Reasonable expectations is at best it will perform on par (or worse) than SteamDeck.

How much does it cost?
