Aight, two completely unrelated big changes to Game Pass very close together in time then.
Result of those TWO completely unrelated changes are less games and higher cost.

I would presume the meagre budget for Games with Gold titles will just go towards extra game pass games. And the 25+ titles beats two…given that you lose access regardless if you unsubscribe to either Gold or Game Pass they are very similar value propositions.

Yeah, that’s the hope, move that GwG ($25 retail value) times X millions of subs each month to getting more GamePass titles. So that’s like what, $10 more per year per subscriber?

I think the better idea would’ve been to create 3 tiers.
Tier 1 - core - online play + rotated 25 games + trials of select gamepass games
Tier 2 - gamepass console - online Play , Access to gamepass
Tier 3 - ultimate - online play , full access to gamepsss , ea Play, GP perks, pc gamepass , Streaming
when i said ‘get rid of XBox Live Gold’ i didn’t mean just the name, i meant the whole product

Well considering they paid publishers I assume for us to have them forever I don’t know why a name change would suddenly change that, Microsoft have already paid for “forever” access.

I haven’t redeemed a games with gold game in years. I stopped checking a while ago because it became such an afterthought with gamepass. It was clear where the money was going. why would pay out for a GWG game when you could put it in gamepass for a better return.
I think what MS is looking for is to make Game Pass the leader in counting any game subscription, this move will add millions of users who only bother to play online as Game Pass users.

lol, games like Sea of Thieves or Exoprimal are part of the Game Pass tier where you need extra payed online to play but not part of the Core tier where you have payed online.
This is a bit of a mess tbh.

I do think it is a bit confusing having multiple layers of Gamepass that don’t have additive benefits though. You get online multiplayer with core but not console. I get why and what the reasons are but it is a downside of doing this gradually - they’ve boxed themselves into a confusing set of tiers.

Honestly, i think it’s a seriously big failure. It should be Core, Console/PC, Ultimate, and the fact that there isn’t this clarity is a bit of a failure tbh

Well, youd imagine the Core functions of Game Pass wouldn’t be able to be deleted, essentially. So that all features would go forward with increasing tiers?
No - because what you have now is Xbox live gold - which is what is needed to grant online play. That is included in gamepass ultimate.
What they are doing is saying xbox live gold = gamepass core. Which is the basic gamepass level. But lets you play online.
Ultimate retains its online play and the other benefits.
Given core is basically the same price as ‘console’ with the differentiation being console gives you all gamepass games - how COULD you include online multiplayer in console without effectively rendering that the base level? And if you do that it needs to go up in price - and effectively crashes into GPU.
I think I mean that if your cheapest bit of the sub is called “core” you can have a more expensive tier of the sub you’d think branding wise the more expensive version would also have the core level.
Like you can have only an apple with the core left, but when you get a new apple… it comes with the core

Yeah but we have numbers.
Core is $9.99 - 25 games plus online Console is $10.99 - all gamepass games no online Ultimate is $16.99 - all gamepass games, online, PC, EAPlay
So how do you put the online gaming into console - what price do you make that tier so that core retains a point and ultimate still is relevant?
I feel 12.99 or even 13.99 if a fair fee to have access to console gamepass + online play
