The XboxEra Community Made a Giant Play Anywhere Guide So You Can Easily See the 1000+ Xbox Games That Support Cross-buy

It started with a suggestion, but over the last week a small team of XboxEra community members built a rather splendid guide in Google Sheets that lists every known Play Anywhere title on the Xbox Store. This simple but comprehensive guide has one goal: to help the greater Xbox community find out what games come with a PC and a console version and, even better, should help you find out what games you own now that have a PC version that you never knew about.

Not only that, we hope to share information on the quirks of some of these titles have on the Xbox platform and to be made aware of any potential issues with said games. Oh, and we’d like to raise awareness on a rather serious issue: that being how the Xbox PC application fails to show the very games that it sells.

You can find the whole Google Sheet thisaway, all credits going to CryOn, Terrin, and mrhipshot for the creation of this beautiful piece of kit. This spreadsheet was created through hours of searching and personal research into our own libraries. But we can’t say this list is perfect—if you have any information on a game listed or even know of a title that isn’t on our sheet, please let us know and we’ll get that sorted ASAP. A Google Account will be required to submit a request, so do keep that in mind. Our site will also have a web-friendly version of the sheet very soon.

Not every game supports every Xbox Live feature and we want to help make that clear with this list. And we’d like to keep this list focused on Play Anywhere titles, specifically those with a PC and console version. With the likely imminent release of Cloud Gaming support for Game Pass Ultimate members, we’d prefer to list games that have a buy once, play anywhere model.

Oh, but before you go, I encourage you to read the full article here to see why this Sheet even came to be. Trust me, it’ll give you insight on just how crummy the Xbox Store is.

Thanks guys!

The 4 of us involved had our own reasons each for the list but things like games not marked as pa or not showing up on the Xbox app Plus to just bring more light on this really amazing feature as someone who plays quite a bit lately on my asus rog ally, when my partner wants to watch tv.

Any feedback is welcome and if you see something we miss send in a form and we will look it over.

It’s a shame the actual third party developers and publishers can’t be bothered to do things right. Even with that, MS Gaming should have a department that ensures the other companies submissions are accurate and correct.

I encourage anyone who has an Xbox Console library and uses a PC, whether that’s a desktop or PC handheld like a ROG Ally or Legion Go to take a look through this list and see if you own any of these games already. I found a few indies I’ve been eyeing and a few games in my backlog that I already own.

This sheet was a ton of work and will keep improving. If you can de-confirm any of these titles as not being Cross-save or lacking Xbox achievements, PLEASE let us know

Hiya.

Amazing work btw and such an aid to the community. I’ve found several games that aren’t on your list that I bought on Xbox and are showing in the PC App. I’ve completed the Google form but it only allows a one time submission. How can I let you know about all the other games missing? There are 17 more games which I bought on Xbox and are showing in the PC App. Metro Exodus, Psychonauts, The Banner Saga 1, The Banner Saga 2, The Banner Saga 3, The Jackbox Party Pack 1, The Jackbox Party Pack 2, The Jackbox Party Pack 3, The Jackbox Party Pack 4, What Remains of Edith Finch, Yazkuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, Yakuza 6, Yesterday Origins

Thanks. Nick.

Hey thanks for your submission and your list of games! I’m one of the few who can add to the list. I will take a look at all of your suggestions but from a glance, I know the Yakuza games are separate purchase/save/achievement games so that is why those aren’t included. Did you by any chance purchase that big Yakuza series bundle? I think that grants access to both console and PC versions but if you bought them outside of the bundle, you’d have to buy them twice.

but thank you cuz it looks like we may have missed a couple like What Remains of Edith Finch and Yesterday Origins. We will check the others too and thank you for the submission! o7

Some of this stuff gets REALLY tricky because there are cases where a game is cross-buy but not cross-save. So that is a case where we really might need to lean on community submissions.

And some Console only games have started to appear in the Xbox PC App even though you cant play them D:

Hiya. Thanks for responding. Yes I bought the Yakuza Remastered Bundle which included 3, 4 and 5 and bought the other Yakuza titles separately.

Kind regards.

Nick.

We appreciate it! But hey quick follow up on those 2 games, Yesterday Origins and Edith Finch. One of our contributors owns those games and downloaded them really quick to test and said they don’t have achievement support or cross-saves between console and PC so we won’t be able to include them on this list :weary: They are cross-buy which is cool though but not technically PA :pensive:

ah ok sorry about that!

It’s all good! I’m glad you commented here so we could discuss it. We’re also discussing lifting the 1 time submission thing for the submission form. We weren’t sure if we were going to get slammed lol

So a weird update for anyone interested. The whole column of games that were “hidden” needing to search for games using the MS Store App instead of the normal Xbox PC App, that seemed to have gotten a decent update TODAY.

I had 11 games “graduate” from MS to the Xbox app since I checked this morning. It’s wild. Maybe give ur Xbox PC App library a look and see if there’s anything new.

But be warned! Sometimes Console Only games show up and it’s just the option to cloud stream them so that wouldn’t count for our list. Like Hellblade 1 has 2 versions Xbox console and a PC version. So that wouldnt count and there are 2 separate versions inside of the Xbox PC app. lol

It’s exciting and it’s probably a coincidence that started happening around the time this project went live

Sadly, the only link to XboxEra.com is at the very bottom of the page hidden away :crying_cat_face:

Yeah, that’s a bummer. Could this spreadsheet be built into XboxEra proper? As a feature of Day One or something. Then anyone sharing it can’t help but link to XboxEra. :person_shrugging:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is one of these, to my eternal (god this game is bloated…) annoyance.

@Terrin @CryOn @mrhipshot thank you for all the work you put into this .

It is so frustrating to see Xbox doesn’t have its basic shit together. Something about myself. I became an Xbox gamer when I purchased a new videocard in 2019 and it had a bundle with 3 months of PC Game Pass. It is because of Xbox Game Pass (and thus Play Anywhere) that I sticked with Xbox and in 2020 I bought my first ever Xbox console. I am the new gamer Xbox is trying to reach with its XPA strategy.

So again, it is very frustrating that they made such a mess and thank you for this list!

Something about this list. I see that you decided to focus only on true Play Anywhere games. But with this list (and the attention it is getting now)? is it perhaps a good idea to open a new sheet in this document with all the games that have 2 out of the 3 elements of Play Anywhere.

What I do know is that when Focus Entertainment is putting a new game on Game Pass it is available everywhere, but the PC version is different than the Xbox version. When the title leaves Game Pass you need to buy both the PC version and Xbox version to play everywhere. Your save files DO share between PC and Xbox. (cross save) Cross save isn’t new but the thing here is that it is done trough the Xbox live network and you don’t need to sync a third party account with your Xbox account.

I tested a few of those games that I on PC and Xbox.

  • A Plague Tale Innocence
  • A Plague Tale Requiem
  • Boltgun
  • Hardspace: Shipbreaker

These games I had to buy twice but they do have cross save support! I think the tag of cross save is Xbox live, don’t know.

I am pretty sure that more games do exist like these. And although it sucks you have to buy the game twice your progress is shared, and you can take it with you.

Just my few cents. I am willing to collaborate on this project. Cheers. PS: did I already say thank you!
