The toxic attacks towards Digital Foundry are too much

I want him to research before trying to claim his opinion as fact. You are doing a lot of assuming, until he specifically says it was not his intention, I will gather what I want about him. He has a Sony bias and needs to get offline if his mental health is taking a toll.

Basically, he is probbly a fanboy himself. John should get off the internet if it is messing with his mental health.

He didn’t claim anything as fact. Do you meticulously fact check every thing you type online? No (this comment of yours demonstrates as much). Folks like you are the issue, not John. When you dwell on the tiniest, least significant things out there and blow them way out of proportion with wild assumptions about his motives, that is not healthy for anybody engaging with you. Same goes for the moron harassing him on twitter. It is their responsibility to not be dogshit ppl. It ain’t his job to cater to their delicate sensibilities or to get hyper meticulous about every single lil thing he says.

And fyi, I’ve talked to him personally about this issue in DM’s. I am not assuming anything. I know precisely how he feels because he explicitly told me. Your pitchfork is out and it shouldn’t be. He isn’t the one being toxic. You are. Those goons on twitter are. Fanboys on various forums are. Ya’ll need to chillax.

Maybe claim is the wrong word, he presents his opinion as fact.

Like is said, I am not excusing the behavior of the idiots, but I do feel as if John has bias and should get off twitter if it is afffecting him so greatly.

This is all I say about the topic. And how I interpreted John’s statement/behaviors.

You can vouch all you want, but I just don’t buy it and I am allowed to feel this way. However, I don’t harass the dude, I just simple to listen to him as much as I do the others.

This is ridiculous… EVERYONE has a bias, including you and me. He has a history of not letting it affect his objective and subjective opinions when it comes to his work… you have bias as well and it seems kinda clear that you see his as a threat for some reason when it shouldn’t be.

“He presents his opinion as fact.”

This is honestly like the oldest and worst argumentative technique to try and shut down an opinion you don’t like, on the basis that YOU are assuming literally everything they say is complete fact without them saying everything is complete fact… so it’s supposed to be lobbed out there like an opinion grenade. It’s not really useful. Opinions are opinions, even those from position of authority on a subject… if they’re meant to be fact, they’ll be stated as such.

What he actually said was that he had not seen gameplay running on XSX hardware with RT from the showcases. Which is true. WD wasn’t in any showcases and hadn’t been shown off running on XSX afaik.

I don’t see him as a threat. I already explained this in my previous comments.

I acknowledged that we all have biases in my other comments as well.

All I will say is, he needs to remove himself from twitter if it is effecting his mental health badly.

As I said, I done with this conversation. He should leave twitter if it’s that big of an issue.

For John’s mental health, he should avoid social media. It can be very toxic.

Given how much time John spent being “concerned” about how Xbox’s cross-gen approach was holding back the games, it’s even more frustrating to hear his silence when it was discovered that all of Sony’s PS5 output (and some of their timed exclusives) were developed as cross-gen. Even more embarrassing for John is all his salivating over “clearly next-gen developed” titles like Horizon and Miles Morales, only for that to be a series of falsehoods.

I like DF a lot as a multi-console owner, but John is clearly biased (from his own actions and written words) and his selective nitpicking does the group no favors. I mean, just look at the pearl clutching about the UI… I mean, every person with a Series X mentioned the embargo clearly states the UI isn’t finalized, which he knows and still decided to have a faux tantrum. To be fair, I also would be okay with the Dash being 1080p if it freed up resources, though I don’t imagine that being necessary.

John likes PlayStation, Richard likes Xbox, Alex thinks consoles are last gen, Tom thinks stuff is cool, and they are all awesome at their jobs. People need to relax and just appreciate their work.

Well said. He doesn’t belong covering games with that type of attitude. Microsoft doesn’t belong in gaming? How can anyone work at Digital Foundry with such a piss poor attitude. I think at this point he’ll never be able to take that back and this will forever haunt him. Maybe he needs to stay off Twitter because yeah it can be a toxic place, but then allot of places can be that way on the Internet when you have fanbases sharing opinions, its not all sunshine and rainbows. Just the same no one should sweep those damaging statements of his under a rug either.

Didnt he clarify those comments a while back?

John is really about retro consoles - he is a classic console collector. He seems to enjoy the df retro stuff the most (also the most fun DF content imo)

He does not care for digital games and wants to own games (physical collector etc). I think he does not care for the digital future, and MS pushes for that the most. Actually he is quite open about not liking digital, cloud etc.

I dont think that makes him unreliable when it comes to framerate comparisons between systems

Overall i think DF are really open and professional - they are about as objective as you can get in their videoes. They actually have a kind of scientifc type of method for comparisons that pushes for objectivity imo

I fear greatly for them because the head to heads might be one sided. For their sake I hope I’m wrong.

Yet Richard, Alex and Tom never let their preferences get in the way of analyzing tech, even if they are not interested in a game they call it like it is. Richard’s and Alex’s praise at Sony’s 1st party stuff is an indication of that and John’s video of Gears 5 is an indication that his preference gets in the way, he brushed off The Coalition’s achievement in that game like it was another UE4 game when in reality Gears 5 is the most impressive UE4 powered game on consoles by far and easily one of the best looking games too - it’s crazy what they achieved visually on that game when you consider it runs at a resolution >1440p and at 60fps on the One X. Instead of praise we saw John shooting at desks and acting disappointed at the lack of interaction (like that stupid Gears 2 to Gears 5 “comparison” from Crowbcat). I am pretty sure that he has an idea about the concessions that have to be made when a game is targeting 60fps with that visual quality and scale on a console with that shitty Jaguar CPU…for a 60fps evangelist he sure didn’t sound too excited on that video (same with the DOOM Eternal video).

Also as Daniel K already mentioned his reaction after the PS5 cross-gen fiasco was quite surprising, I was curious to see his reaction after his strong opinions about Xbox’s cross-gen strategy and Halo Infinite’s showcase but all I saw was silence.

Its gonna be a steep hillclimb generation for those sony fanboys that thrived on trolling the power difference of ps4-xbone. sony has already shut up talking about power since 2 years, but fanboys didn’t get the memo.

Dark1x was a sony guy before being involved with DF, I very much doubt that this has changed. Never the less, cannibalism is a known outcome of pressure on these things. Fanboys will eat him alive

The early gen comparisons may not be too favourable for Xbox - we shall see.

John is a former playstation fanboy that turned pro. He is only as objective as he needs to be in order not to get called out big-time. I wrote above how funny it is that the playstation folk direct their anger towards him, I call it frustration cannibalism. He is one of the best sony damage-control persons in the games media business.

edit:

since this post was flagged as “hidden” -as if it was saying something wrong or non valid- I will double down on it and provide some context-examples:

everyone can go and watch “the mother of all comparisons”, the FORZA 7 Vs GTS on DF, and witness him/herself if my post is wrong.

fm7 is native 4k locked 60 with clear shadows, reflections etc, while gts has to checkerboard to reach 1800p, then upscale to 4k.

so the difference in picture quality is very significant.

not only that, but gts also exhibits on top lots of graphical nuisances like shadow creeping, tree morphing, very low res reflections, limited draw distance for roadside stuff, and all these differences are judged to be “equal” by Dark1x.

Even funnier is when he makes the direct car comparisons, where he compares …photo modes
Other example is that while “2d-trees” have been a nagging point for him for forza since …forever, now that gts features way more 2d trees than forza, and with worse details and shape shifting etc, the point has vanished and become a …non-issue.

I could go on and on, I really think its unnecessary as things are evident.

Unless of curse anyone objects to what I wrote. if that is the case, then I can be very-very detailed on my observations and expand greatly.

My point here is that bottom line, I can’t understand how its not “censored” for sony fanboys to bash dark1x for no valid reason,
and at the same time it is censored to note the truth
