I dont disagree .As a dev , it must’ve sucked knowing that the gaming industry does not recognize your hard work just because you are making a "car game " .
The only real crimes here are: a. Fallen Order not getting a nomination last year and b. Elden Ring getting the '‘best anticipated game’ award twice
Literally nobody cares about these awards. Forza not being nominated is BS, obviously, but it’s not like it’s amazingness is being severely hampered and nobody will know about it. The only people who care about these awards are fanboys. TLOU2 won GOTY last year… Nobody cared about that game then, or now. I doubt most people who watched the event even remember it won GOTY. Had Forza been nominated you would be seeing certain people say it was a paid slot. One of my favourite games this year was Blaster Master Zero 3, and it’s not getting any awards or acknowledgement from any gaming media outlet. Doesn’t make me mad
. The people running these things are quite biased and obviously don’t play the majority of genres, so I couldn’t give less of a shit.
How the f… Is FM5 not Nominated but you got jumping sims in there? Where is the creativity? None of them even reached 90 on mc ffs
What is a jumping sim?
LMFAOOOO I think he’s referring to Metroid Dread
Maybe a platformer? so I guess he is referring to Psychonauts 2 and Metroid Dread then? I’ve never heard of jumping sims to be honest.

As a huge fan of Horizon 5, I’m not incensed about it getting acknowledged for GOTY. I can admit that compared to Deathloop, It Takes Two and Psychonauts 2 that it doesn’t really do anything unique within the realm of racing games in regards to its mechanical design. It is the best racing game of the year, without a doubt, but it’s an iteration of already perfected design.
It’s fine to blame him …
If he can get good recognition for whatever he do for TGA he should also get bad recognition
But yes, we can’t single out him… It’s the problem in TGA Jury
These awards are not about the most innovative or unique game though, if it were then games like GoW, TLoU2 & Dragon Age Inquisition shouldn’t win and half the nominations should’ve been indie games. It’s about the best game and the best game can be an even better iteration of an already great design. Metroid Dread is like that and it’s a nominee (and totally deserving the spot IMO).
They need a balance above all else.
Fans can rig scores, but journalists are in a bubble detached from reality. Devs have 0 say.
It should be 33-33-33 for audience, jounos and devs.
On the selection, while it’s true that Geoff doesn’t select, he does compose the jury and there are some weird choices there.
Kinda Funny having a vote, for instance, whose YouTube channel is objectively tiny with ~270k subs, is hard to explain. They didn’t even have an Xbox podcast until about a year ago and are hardly a media magnate. They are Geoff’s pals, so get a vote despite being minnows in the YouTube gaming space.
Polygon and Verge both having a vote, despite being the same company is another oddity.
There are probably tonnes of oddities if you were to fine tooth comb the list.
Forza can still be among one of the best games of the year and still not offer anything particularly unique. Two things can be right at the same time lmao. Forza has tight mechanical design, some of the highest level of visual fidelity and is an incredibly expressive experience done very, very rarely in the racing genre.
At the same time, they’ve been doing it since Horizon 3 lol. Which is fine!
Yeah a fan vote would have predictable outcomes. Whatever the beat selling console is, their biggest exclusive will win every year.
This odd stance I see that Geoff Keighley somehow how nothing to do with the TGA is… weird. Of course he does, or is it only for the positive things?
That Forza Horizon 5 isn’t even nominated is embarassing and removes whatever little credibility this crap had.
by that logic , God of War Rognarok will not be nominated next year as its more of the same . But its going to be nominated if not win the whole thing .
Argument would have more credibility if the list did not include Resident Evil and Ratchet and Clank.
Maybe it won’t! There’s a lot of great games coming out next year lmao.
RE franchise is plagued with a whole lot more stinkers and has only recently found it’s footing back as a franchise. I have my criticisms about first person RE, but you have to give credit where it’s due: what they’re doing with RE in Village is wholly unique to the franchise from a visual and design standpoint.
Ratchet and Clank, well, I think it’s alongside of if not better than Forza from a technical standpoint.
The only positive thing from all this FH5 drama is that, even some neutral and PS-centric journos who didn’t give a S about xbox in the past are starting to give the credits to them in the wake of the ‘controversy’. Even that IGN guy were also critizing TGA.
Honestly, I feel this is such a dangerous argument about Forza being more of the same. Like, you brought up a great point about God of War because it’s most likely going to be similar to the PS4 game. Also, if people want to tread that topic than what makes Ratchet and Clank for PS5 any different than the 2016 game? For me it felt more of the same and not that significant jump to warrant a goty if the GOTY award is about unique experiences.
