R&C has been the same since Going Commando (again nothing wrong with that) yet it’s still a nominee so the points you are trying to make about innovation being an important part of the nominees choosing are not making any sense. And please don’t tell me that portals is something new and innovative…
How is RE Villiage significantly different to RE 7?
How is Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart significantly different to R&C 2016? How is any R&C game really different to any other going back to the PS2?
I’m not criticising either game by pointing out that they don’t do anything new. I am saying that if Hoirzon 5 should be excluded because its a sequel rather than a new idea, then neither of those games should be there either.
What’s with discrediting the Rift Tether system?
Genre limitations is where I’m getting at here. Sports games and racing games, as a fan of both, will never be acknowledged to a significant degree by critics at awards ceremonies. Just the way it is. This is still an industry where sports games are immediately brushed off beause of it’s iterative nature.
Come on man, it’s a cosmetic variation on a grappling hook. It’s not even a free grappling hook, more like Metroid Prime where there are set points you can grapple to.
The rift stuff in R&C is cool but it is not some fundamental change to the gameplay like people expected it would be. The base game is identical in core gameplay to the previous one.
No one has said he has nothing to do with The Game Awards, but he is not a voting member of the jury. Period.
I agree that the public deciding this would also be a disaster. I don’t think there is a good answer.
Just let me pick 'em, I’ll do good.
Idk, what’s with discrediting the sandstorms/tropical storms, increased campaign, new driving model and shift to MMO singular servers. If R&C isn’t iterative, Forza isn’t either.
Lol
~visuals are still a part of the gameplay experience and should be considered, though. Maybe critics just found that more appealing than
another sports game.
Alright: I concede in saying my original argument was bunk. Sports and racing games will simply never receive the recognition and praise that like every other genre does. charge it to the game lmao
BlackheartVinyl : This game has Co-op ?
Geoff : Yes .
BlackheartVinyl : GOTY !

Except last year, Hades should have won.
But also, Hades should get a co-op expansion
I’m not sure if excluding games that don’t include co-op is a good idea either.
In the world of stats - 33% to the general public is difficult to accept. Don’t go there.
Have better representation rather than having the mob control a large percentage, always.
The prejudice is there and that needs to be addressed. Have a better represented jury than like a larger version of the ridiculous Gamescoop podcast from ign.
There are hobbyist/professional game opinion clubs in cities like NY for instance. They can be tapped for some representation.
That’s a good point. Regardless, what this year has shown above all else is the media and gamers have never been more detached.
Curious to see the public voting nonetheless.
In 2019 Fire Emblem won (wasn’t nominated) and Sekiro lost on 2nd round (3 rounds).
In 2020, Ghost of Tsushima won against TLOU2.
We need a sin bin. Lol
In the middle of Forza Disappointment… We forgot the the true GOTY

Just read Jez article. Damn he didn’t pullback any punches. He is right though and he said what everyone is thinking.
Every Deathloop nomination should be swapped with Hitman 3. It’ll be awkward if they give that game a lot of awards as it’s by far the worst modern Arkane game and shockingly dumbed-down.
Hope Playground Games says something about being the highest rated game of the year when they win best racing game.
