The Series X seems to be in steady supply right now. A blip or trend?

If Microsoft paid for chip priority that can’t last forever so series x could at some point be in short supply again. I still havnt seen one in the wild. Only series s

Pretty sure it’s going to be a big issue for atleast the whole of this year and probably a good part of next year. Most of the car manufacturers have had to reduce production because they can’t get enough chips and forward bookings for cars are 3-5 years for some models which is crazy.

I’m not sure how AMD and TSMC operate with their orders but I wonder if Microsoft took a big order of their 7nm production that’s going to be used for consoles and server blades but also for GPU’s and AMD Cpu’s for Azure data centers. Then there’s also the AMD chips they’ve started using in their surface lineup. It could be they’ve just booked a ton of production and they allocated a lot to the gaming division first and then that production will go to the servers

It can last as long as MS keeps paying lol.

I think MS has become a high priority customer for AMD. MS now has AMD in datacenters, surfaces and consoles. I can understand AMD giving MS higher priority over sony.

I think after the design is done, AMD is out of the loop outside of royalties. I could be wrong, but Microsoft would be working directly with the foundries to manufacture chips as opposed to going through AMD.

The Series X non-AllAccess is back in stock at Walmart. It’s around 20 hours that it wasn’t in stock, but they still had AllAccess version available during that stretch. That’s the longest I’ve seen it go not being in stock since March. They’re doing a slapping job on making sure it’s available.

The Targets around me even had them available in store and available for pickup orders. After about a day they’re down to around 60 units at the 19 stores within 30 miles.

If true, you can say PS fell into a trap card because Microsoft specialized computer world and they have strong connections with these companies.

You are indeed correct. This would be the case when AMD had their own foundries, but that was years ago so now it is how you say it is. In fact, Microsoft and Sony are kind of competitors to AMD when it comes to chip manufacturing turing lol.

I believe you gentlemen are incorrect. You are correct that AMD doens’t own any fabs but they are an OEM to xbox (just like seagate). AMD has rebranded xbox soc with gpu defects as desktop chips.

I dont know for sure, but I don’t believe it is an OEM agreement. It is a custom design and Microsoft works directly to manufacturers to manufacture the chips.

Isn’t buying from NVIDIA (and the associated cost savings not flowing back) one of the major reasons that things went south between them with the original Xbox?

Let’s go Xbox!! Take back North America!! The Summer showcase is almost here!!

This was something that Microsoft found out the hard way with the Xbox, and since have made sure that they own the designs, or at least own it in terms of the console space, so they are in charge of shrinking and producing them.

Doing some spot checks over the past weekend…

Sams Club still has Series X bundle available.

Walmart online has sold out of their stock. They list AllAccess option as available and in stock.

Targets around me have sold out of their stock.

Microsoft still has Series X bundles available online. The only required addon is 3 months of GamePass.

Destin says not to trust VGChartz

Of course not, but so far, UK has been suggested to sell higher than the two. As for US, the chance is pretty high. I believe this week is when we will know. Also, the earning call should be interesting on both side.

Vgchartz isn’t something you can trust with 100% accuracy, as there was a time when we learned that Xb1 had sold around 50 million, but they kept their old estimates of 30 million plus up for months. Unfortunately they’re one of the few that try to post numbers often, but they are very much against Xbox doing well at all.

VGChartz gives you a decent ballpark figure but is nowhere near absolute. It’s really the best gauge you can get other than from the companies themselves or NPD.

It’s tied… I don’t need VGCChartz to tell me that. It’s simple when you consider every console manufactured for either side equals a console sold. So long as you give Xbox credit for sacrificing millions of sales to create servers for Xcloud. I don’t consider it a stretch to count those diverted chips as console sales. Clearly Xbox saw it as a worthy investment. If PlayStation wants to build PS5 servers for cloud then they will have to make the same sacrifice.

Ghostwire bombed hard doubt it had effect on anything. Deservedly so for being moneyhatted and forced next gen only for a game that could easily run on ps4 with lower visuals. Hopefully has 2nd wind when it comes to gamepass and its a bit more fleshed out in terms of content
