The Initiative game could be not the game we are waiting for

Horizon II Forbidden West looks superb but I want to see what it looks like during gameplay. I will be playing it on PS5 but I don’t believe the PS4 version would be that much of a visual difference as it will look amazing on PS4 Pro especially since the original game looked amazing.

I posted this before but I’m actually super siked their game is going to be on the shorter side. Microsoft just purchased Bethesda, now they have every major Western RPG maker besides CDProject Red under their umbrella. Those developers can and probably will make 40+ hour games, they’ll be no shortage of massively lengthy games on the Xbox. What we need are some unique games you could only play on the Xbox/Gamepass (PC included).

From the talent of the studio they’re definitely top teir talent that will can make something include. I for one am excited if their games are going to be around 5-8 hours to complete. I want a tight cohesive and bloat free game that’s focused.

The idea that these games will be in a connected universe but be different games and possibly different styles is even more engaging.

The original post mentions a comparison to Black Mirror, which makes sense since it seems all of the episodes happen in the same universe just in different timelines etc, I feel like this will probably be closer to Netflix’s Love, Death and Robots. Each possible game in a different genre.

I’m super excited because it feels like this team was put together to be creative and free than to follow in the footsteps of other developers and studios.

I’m not saying HZD2 looked bad. I’m saying it looked like a ps4 game in 4k (and in some aspects even below the PC port of HZD 1), with some weirdly very rough spots. Like that plane I posted above. That looks worse than anything you would find in the Halo Infinite footage.

This sounds like a case of you not knowing the best way to take advantage of the service.

I play Sea of Thieves with gamepass, I sold most of my first party xbox games. Fallen Order is what I play right now

Indeed thats what I hope comes out of them. Since the Sunset Overdrive lead has a important role in this team I have no doubt in their creative abbilities

The studio has more than 1 project…

I will sign up for Game Pass when im ready to play Gears Tactics and the main Halo games but even then, it will only be for a month at $10, then I cancel until the next game releases day one which in that case, I simply repeat what I did for Gears Tactics.

I will sign up for Disney once The Mandalorian completes season two and then cancel it once im done watching it. Netflix I have for free from a friend and Amazon Prime is maybe one or two months a year depending on if they have shows/movies that I want to watch.

The only subscription service I stay with every month is Hulu because I literally watch it every day and just the other day, I signed up for HBO Max so I can finally watch Game of Thrones from start to finish. Plus, since I don’t have anything to play until I receive the Series X in a few weeks, I figured that I can use this time to knock out a few shows/movies.

I’m simply not going to pay money for subscriptions that im not using. Plus, I don’t have a last gen backlog outside of Halo so once those games are done, I’ll be all caught up. I haven’t had cable in over a decade too. Just no reason for it. I either stream shows/movies or I just skip it. LOL.

Agreed. It’s why I don’t have GP all the time. Besides, I get the 3-Month cards for $20 so I’m not paying full price either. Why anyone would pay full price these days is beyond me … but to each their own

People don’t want to micromanage their subscriptions. You should be happy everyone doesn’t behave like you guys or the services wouldn’t exist lol

What “news” did you read?

Like I said. To each their own. I got by before the era of subscriptions, and could easily do so again

hmmm it could be they are working on episodes and not on two new games. let’s say Drew Murray team work on one episode and the other Design Director team work on other episode. basically teams, every episode have it’s own character and gameplay. the problem here the quality of the episodes and it’s gameplay will not be the same.

This could be their only project and the angst from gamers concerning it possibly being episodic would still be dumb TBH.

Imagine bitching and moaning about a game we know nothing about and haven’t seen anything of yet.

let’s say this real then if they want this to work then the story needs to be damn great. this type of format mostly rely on it’s story

I will wait and judge it when announced. Not off of rumors, though I’m not a fan of episodic format

Yes, but more than that, having this weird checklist of “I will only play these games, I will explore nothing else outside of my comfort zone” really misses the point.

They are working on some things in old and new ways like Phil Spencer hinted in the past. Multiple episodes still part of a same project. Rather wait and see the devs show their project and explain the concept behind.

That is exactly what I hope it is.

If I was a dev, working a shorter project would be a hell of a lot more exciting than constantly grinding on one project for multiple years and facing burnout. Look at other ‘AAA’ games how much staff they grind through on a multi year project it’s insane.

A premium studio making smaller games in different genres would certainly excite me more as a creative dev than another 10hr game stretched out to 30+ hrs for no reason other than giving some lopsided idea of ‘value for money’ my time is more valuable these days.

Also Gamepass means devs dont have to worry about that metric as much anymore.

Give me exciting creative stuff with strong gameplay and visuals.

I would be very happy with short, high production one-offs, where each offered a varied mix of genres and gameplay, but have a common narrative thread.
