I think that Xbox is changing strategy with regards to lead times for games. They’ll be trying to do a Nintendo; steady first party releases every three months, starting this year with Pentiment and Grounded, and flowing into 2023 with Age of Empires II and IV for Xbox, Redfall, and Starfield, Forza and then beyond.
Release dates within 12 months. We have such a stacked Gamepass day one list next year, it’s shaping up to be a classic, and this is the quiet before the storm. I get folk’s being disappointed, but at least there is a stream in coming that none of us are going to be able handle!
Both were really big budget tho, and 4-5 years would be nice, all these studios i named will be on the 6-8 years range, except maybe Coalition with their smaller project. Same for Undead Labs and State of Decay
Just a year makes a big difference imo, imagine more
Add me to the “Glad I didn’t stay up for this show” list. These shows are not worth staying up at night for, in particular work nights. I hate how it’s always on at awful times in the UK/EU.
Stop, lol. Xbox are going radio silent until April or August next year then? I like Jez, he’s a good guy but lets not hang on every word that these journos or influencers put out there. I saw this tweet from Jez last week that had me rolling my eyes:

Who knows why they were a no show last night but it wasn’t because the FTC might be watching and Xbox felt they couldn’t update us on already announced games, that is pure tinfoil hat wearing territory.
I mean T10 and TC are some of the most efficient studios in the industry, so if they are taking their time it is because they have been given the time to do what they feel is necessary.
T10 are completely rebooting and overhauling the Forza Motorsport franchise, in the while they are also a support studio across XGS and especially Playground. 6 years is not that much by today’s standards, closest competitor (GT7) took 5 years for a sequel.
Rare, I agree, their output looks weak, if you only look at them from new release perspective, gotta remember that live service games are still continuous output that requires a lot of labor. I still think Rare should make side projects with smaller teams to make their new output more frequent.
343, made a soft reboot after many tries, and honestly a complicated franchise that needs to consider so many different things. It’s not likely that there’s anything like to compare the efficiency or output. 343 also make MCC and support it as live service. It’s a very hard studio to quantify overall because Halo is just complicated imo.
I don’t know why said Coalition, their efficiency is unquestionable. They are likely taking longer because they’re still playing around with UE5 to maximize its potential, and they are also reconsidering things possibly overhauling/rebooting stuff with the next Gears, while seemingly making a new smaller game, and supporting across XGS like crazy lol
Microsoft studios made the decision to make true next generation games, with next gen production values. That takes a bit longer then making a PS4 game at higher resolution. Lack of meaningful visual leap is part of the reason Gran Turismo 7 and Forbidden West underperformed.
The fact you don’t see the hypocrisy in this is kinda sad.
You’re right, nobody ultimately knows the answer. So that should shut down the dooming about Xbox not having any games, everything’s getting delayed to 2024, it’s all over etc.
Can’t be yet when i only saw like 20 seconds of gameplay for T10 and only heard that Coalition is working on a smaller project, i am glad tho that inXile and Obsidian are working on first person RPG’s.
Imo the gap from 2-3 years to 6-8 is too big, but not just for MS, it is for everyone, i can buy Starfield or Rockstar’s games taking that time but for some not that big ones it sucks, i hope hiring freezes for MS will end asap and their teams can grow again.
But yes, at next E3 once we know release dates and we’ve seen more from their 2023 games and maybe a bit for 2024’s ones, things will look better, at this point its all about waiting and having patience
I don’t think everything is getting delayed until 2024 or that it’s all over, anything but that. The only logical explanation is they have there own show in January or February, nothing else makes sense.
I do agree that it is the most likely scenario, and it makes more sense to do deep dives for their near term releases in the next month or so.
Folks are probably pretty apprehensive to that because of Xbox’s E3/TGA history. That said, if we look at history both their E3 and TGA presence have changed signifigantly this year, so it could signal a change in overall planning.
Yip and with Greenberg heavily insinuating that they will be talking/showing sooner rather than later then hopefully the stars will start to align for an early 2023 show of some sort.
I don’t expect new Rare’s games or Undead Labs’ until 2025 at least, Halo Infinite also released in over 6 years, and while the campaign was fun, it lacked a lot of variety and MP was a beta, with coop being non existant till last month.
I know they kept updating their videogames, (343 not so much) but also Guerrilla did on first’s Horizon, also Rare is the second biggest XGS studio i think, i guess a big part has been working on Everwild for a long long time.
