Yeah but that ign video is an embarrassment. Grading a console for a year is honestly some horrendously earnest teenage nonsense. What a pile of utter garbage ign are.
https://x.com/G27Status/status/1729924997370576966?s=20 Gee , you think?
I don’t remember seeing player numbers mentioned this much before for a single player game(if at all). It’s a bit ridiculous.
Add it to the list, along with the fake outrage about Bethesda having the audacity to politely respond to Steam reviews (something that plenty of other developers do). This of course was driven by IGN who immediately picked up on it and made a video about it (the comments of which are a cesspool).
Even just posting a tweet of someone embedding it to call it stupid on another website entirely is what they want, they’re doing this for exposure and clicks. They don’t care about Starfield, just that it’s a topic that drives engagement. Whether it’s someone who can’t live without XYZ and relishes any opportunity to crap on it or someone who’s outraged about it doesn’t matter.
Don’t look at their tweets, resist the urge to dunk on them or boost the stuff they put out to appeal to you even outside of twitter and for heaven’s sake don’t click on any of their articles.
Even block them
Honestly, I understand the pressure journalist are facing because that industry is going to be heavily impacted by AI. We already have sports illustrated getting caught creating AI journalist to generate articles. I think they would be wise not to create blatant clickbait content because you don’t want to alienate an audience if you want to pivot into being a content creator. I’ll just say that regarding the clickbait nonsense that is happening with Starfield
Also, we really need to kill this trend of steam player count being the only metric that matters. This is a game that is on gamepass with a good amount of players playing it on xbox and cloud. There’s a reason why Starfield hasn’t left the top 10 most played chart on xbox. Plus, if you look at the games ahead of Starfield it’s mainly live service games, which is very impressive. However, journalist, fanboys, and other won’t bring up that part
That’s what I do. That stuff doesn’t give me anything so I block the lot of them. Twitter is almost enjoyable without all the bullshit outrage and drama.
From what I saw earlier, the next best response to those sort of Tweets is getting Community Notes on it. That is supposed to demonetize it entirely. Not sure how hard it is to do, but always calling out the mistakes might lead to Community Notes. Maybe if that’s done enough times they will learn Negative ClickBaits won’t work at all.
I’ll defer to you since I don’t know much about Twitter at all lol
The trouble I see is attempting to correct it feeds them engagement. They really need some means of submitting correction notes that won’t feed them if they don’t get accepted. I don’t know how much it takes to get “Community Notes” on posts. If it’s done by someone manually inside Twitter going off the replies, then that’s going to be ineffective.
As you said, best is entirely to block and ignore.
With the TV show hitting the news, get ready for the wave of “Fallout is forgotten”/“No one likes Bethesda Fallout games”/“Fallout was never good”. I’m already seeing it start in certain quarters.
If they repeat it enough, maybe it will be true
AI is not a threat to journalism, but a valuable ally that can enhance the quality, efficiency and diversity of news production and consumption. AI can help journalists with tedious and repetitive tasks, such as data collection, verification, summarization and translation, freeing up more time for creative and investigative work. In short, there is no reason for journalists to feel any pressure.

you nailed it. Your answer was perfect.
It’s not just impressive. Starfield is the most successful single-player only game of the last decade [on Xbox].
BG3 is a fantastic success story for its studio (since many people have contrasted it with Starfield), but Starfield is by no means a flop. With 250 people at Bethesda still working on the game, I can imagine the game will receive updates that address the player feedback and add even more content. I think the State of Decay 2 model will be replicated by many Xbox games going forward and Starfield will be one of them.
The topic on ERA about the 12M players of the game is fascinating.
People who did not bought or play the game, people who played the game for no more than a few minutes, or a few hours. Still, they need to spend large amount of time debating that the game is a failure.
Internet.
The Goal Posts will ALWAYS move, it is pointless to care about that crap. 12 million now isn’t enough seemingly, nothing would be enough.
There is no world where the media and Sony fanboys would relent and give Starfield it’s props.
I guess they decided to ignore the top 20 selling games of the year list that Starfield is part of huh?
They checked the Top 20 in Playstation mag, Starfield was nowhere to be seen.
So, if it’s not on PS it’s not successful is what they’re going with.
