The discourse out there is pretty bad after Starfield

The October ‘Steam top 20 most played’ chart from Circana/NPD (US) shows that it was 10th and Skyrim is nowhere to be found there.

You know that writer was checking daily for the day that Starfield slipped. It’s like the other day it was double the Skyrim player count.

Starfield hurt them.

Xbox is really hurting the current Gaming Media narrative, they can keep piling on to see if some negativity sticks but their efforts look more stupid over time.

And Starfield was # 9 in October in Circana for Year to Date for all games on all consoles. And that is with Game Pass for PC and Game Pass for Xbox.

That’s because these morons love to lie by omission and just like so many politicians, they haven’t realized that it’s never been easier to fact-check than it is today… don’t worry, I’m sure there will be some former “Xbox fans” that will still try and paint everyone calling this out as being conspiracy theorists. Again I say, we have a string of compelling evidence just in the last year and there’s a surprising lack of evidence to counter; find me the same articles about Sony games that literally drop off the charts two months after their release, or the same verbiage we see as I’ve mentioned ad nauseam at Xbox, then we’ll talk.

I’ve long said it’s because Game Pass, and other streaming services with Day One access, makes critics irrelevant so they’re on a clickbait-revenge fest. Why care what a reviewer says about a game when you can literally try it for yourself, for free…. I guarantee we’d see a drop in traffic from those demographics so at the very least they’re leaning into the rabid anti-Xbox fanbase they’ve generated (don’t let that lot pretend they haven’t been feeding console war bullshit for decades).

You can see how much the discourse is different when the audience gets access to the game at the same time reviewers looking at Hi-Fi Rush and Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m 99% reviewers would be complaining about obscure mechanics in BG3 if people were unable to call them out on their bullshit immediately. Metro UK was the only one who even attempted to drag HiFi Rush down and even they couldn’t find a valid excuse lol.

I believe their review said they had to lower score because it was on Xbox . That outlet is one of the voters for the VGAs

A lot of people on the internet just need to go to the police and point out on the doll where Starfield hit them, that’s all I’ve gotta say

Easy. Right in their dark cultist hearts.

Starfield in 9th place months after release is totally insane for a singleplayer game. Skyrim reaching 32th is also insane for a 12 years old game lol. This data just show how popular Bethesda games are

Starfield is incredibly strong. It probably hurts some people to the very soul, haha.

Also, there’s the facf that people didn’t expect these games to be popular on release, so there wasn’t an army of people ready to hate on the game before it even released, like what happened to Starfield.

I’ll put more salt. For October, it was at #4 for most played and #10 for steam.

Seems like these media outlets didn’t read the parable of the boiling frog. “ If you are a frog, you jump from a pot of boiling water. But if you are placed in a pot of tepid water that is gradually heated to boiling, you die. This is the parable used to explain why humans react quickly to sudden events but fail to react to slowly changing conditions until it is too late .” Folks are slowly catching on but the are going to keep running the same play until it’s too late.

:doge: Anywhere not here, most people are shy about saying they like Starfield for fear of 10 different people dogpiling them telling them the game is bad. Crazy hate machine this game has generated.

Absolutely. That is the one thing Microsoft deserves credit for, and that is persisting with games after they might not have come out the great reception. Sea of Theives is a great example of where they could have wound it up early, and missed out on it becoming what is has. I have no doubt that many other publishers would have done that. Same goes for Grounded. A neat little game that appeals to a number of gamers who loyally play it.

It is also good to see that both Fallout 76 and ESO have been persisted with, and again, have a good following.

Yep, MS tends to stick with games over the long haul, Sea of Thieves and Halo infinite are great examples that started out rough but ended up great. Games like Grounded as well has done great and State of Decay has millions of players still. You can pretty well trust MS on their long term plans for games and know they won’t usually pull the rug out from under you.

Sony on the other hand dumps games, game servers and even full products like vita and PSVR1 and PSVR2 like they are bad habits and for some reason Sony fans and the media rarely give them flack for screwing gamers over.

Add in MS’s great BC program and I wonder WHY any gamers concerned about retro game access and general game preservation don’t flock to MS systems instead of Sony.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that disturbing trend too. I’m sticking my neck out though when I can, and there’s always a few lurkers who then step out of the shadows to agree. This game is very popular, but the cult is super aggressive about it.

State of Decay 2 is a golden example of how you support a game; it’s had two engine upgrades/rebuilds deployed to the community and over 40 major content updates, all for free. It’s why, as I’ve watched industry pundits paint Xbox as “the big bad”, I can’t help but scratch my head when Xbox has provided so much additional content and support across a massive variety of games, whereas the other charges the player for everything, up to being able to simply play a game on next-gen with its enhancements for crying out loud. But yeah, those loud voices claiming there isn’t any bias - massive Sure Jan.

More to the celebratory point, Undead Labs is one of my favorite devs in the industry (not just Xbox) - from the moment I bought and downloaded SoD on XBLA, I knew this team was something special. They deserve untold praise for sticking with SoD2 and making it the perfect zombie sim it is today.
