The discourse out there is pretty bad after Starfield

Nintendo and Sony will never fall under any real scrutiny for it. They have a nostalgia factor that Xbox doesn’t. I can understand more in the case of Nintendo. Sony not so much but whatever. Don’t ever expect them to be scrutinized for it though.

Gears, Halo and forza are essentially the foundation (root) of Xbox. This is why they should stick around for the foreseeable future. I think Nintendo has that nostalgic factor you speak of (although I’ve grown out of Mario ages ago) not sure Sony shares the same though. They have great IPs but many of them are just copy/paste with different skins. In fact, that very design has defined Sony over the years. They should be challenged to try and do something different for crying out loud.

You’re probably right though…

I think TLOU does a better job of survival and creating intense moments And gears doesn’t aim for that anymore. I feel gears aims more for the epic spectacle so hard to compare . Gears is more like Spider-Man/Uncharted than it is tlou imo . However a fair game to compare TLOU to is resident evil because I feel They aim for similar survival thriller type of game

I liked TLOU 2, better than the original gameplay wise. I’d go as far as saying it has a good gameplay loop , but there was nothing revolutionary about it to the point where it was “miles ahead” to the likes of Hivebusters. I would call it a slower version of Uncharted gameplay wise.

Gears has always been about spectacle from the original on. The first had a few more horror elements but it was never a slow paced game. The actual shooting remains unmatched as far as a tps goes.

The Coalition is among in the best the business in terms of technicality when making games that have great visuals mixed with great performance, only ID Software and maybe Insomniac really compares imo. The next gears is gonna be special, especially because the Coalition are masters of the unreal engine. In term of gameplay, they just need to update it for modern taste but I enjoyed hivebusters, especially the abilities, so hopefully they move that direction.

Thats because people who say that want Xbox IPs to die. Like Uncharted.

I’ve been playing Gears day 1 since 2006 and no other game has enraptured me like Gears 5. Its the pinnacle of 3rd person shooterdom and the IP will still be trucking long after The Kratos of Us has turned to dust.

Shit…i bet the remastered Marcus Fenix collection will be a better GAAS than any Sony game will be.

You’re right Nintendo has that nostalgic factor and have managed to keep it running. However I do think they have preserved it in innovative ways and not just doing the exact same thing. I myself am tired of Mario but they always introduce something new enough for the fan. Then there is Zelda which seems magical but playing it gives a different experience. I think many would rather see Coalition do something else than Gears which is probably why the cry for new ideas is loud. To me the sandbox just feels too closed. I would rather like to see something like ANTHEM but as a single player game.

What do you think of the third person aspects of ANTHEM?

That “other” site currently has another bash Starfield thread up. The poll displays how many people didn’t enjoy the world and thought it was boring. :joy:

These dudes will do anything to try and kill an Xbox IP. Starfield is a legitimate banger for a first out IP. It’ll grow enormously from here. Can’t wait for the next round.

OP: “I’m not a console warrior, just asking questions! But doesn’t Starfield suck? Some games that are a lot better, just off the top of my head: God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Spider-Man. Just random examples, no implied pattern there. I don’t know though, I don’t really have an opinion on why Starfield sucks so bad, I just wanted to poll everyone else to see what they think! I’m just asking questions! Totally not a console warrior thing.”

Mods: “Looks legit!”

Compared to the one and dones Sony make, Starfield will be rent free on their head for a long time, like the longevity of this game especially with mods support and expansions. Let them keep talking about the game, it will keep the game relevant at least until modding takes it to the next level.

I’ve noticed this too from my favourite TES YouTubers. The algorithm really promotes negativity so I have a feeling when people click “don’t show me this” it hurts the visibility of the positive videos.

Gears disourse is hilarious considering Gears is getting an anime, a movie, and Gears 6 is well underway. Ya’ll lost that battle. Time to move on.

That’s probably it, every time you put Starfield on the search bar, it’s all negative videos from streamers and rage baiters that they show front and center. If you are a fan of the game, of course you don’t want to see those so you end up not watching videos about the game instead. The media and fanboys have done a good job wrecking the image of the game, even though it still reviewed well. It will probably change as time goes by especially if mods and expansions improve the game(not that it was bad to begin with).

Sign me up. I played the whole game solo and the gameplay is fantastic. Story is a bit mediocre. But the only thing that dragged it down a bit was the always online multiplayer functionality, which kicked me from the server a few times, losing progress.

Don’t know why they don’t re-release Anthem as an actual single player game.

My guess is they really had nothing more than what they released. The gameplay was solid and made you feel like a total badass and if the game was worked as a single player campaign game from the start it would have done well in my opinion also, I’m sure they can realize the original reveal visuals today maybe even better.

This man speaks the truth.

Yeah, having this game as a Live Service with forced Multiplayer was a death sentence - in addition to bugs, this caused bad design choices like fixed enemy scaling and sparse legendary drops to prolong the grind.

But Javelin customization was amazing with 6 slots for material shaders that could really fine-tune the look, flying made you feel like Iron Man, classes felt quite distinguished and they really felt different to play. Guns were fine, and unfortunately it took them some time to get really unique guns into the game. Making builds was nice, but hampered by sparse drops.

Probably fell off too quick and EA didn’t want to run with loss on it until they got Anthem 2.0.

But it would be great if they took their lessons from it and made Anthem 2.

I’m going to guess that thread exists because of the recent Forbes article talking about how it’s still one of the top games being played a more than a month after launch.
