The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 2)

I think where MS is missing the point is in the intangibles. They are looking at the numbers and charts and it shows that exclusives, certain games, and such don’t sell consoles. It isn’t necessarily an incorrect assessment when you see everyone is playing the same 3rd party games. Where they are going wrong I think is they are missing the marketing, internet buzz, fanboy list warz, aspect.

For example PS having Final Fantasy as exclusive might not be seen as important if you look at the sales data, but it is important for fanboy lists. People who wouldn’t go near a JRPG still go on the internet and boast about it. They’ll never buy it or never play it, but they’ll scream from the rooftops about how awesome it is. Things from enthusiast forums do leak out to the mainstream. It’s all about the appearance of having the superior device and games, not about actually using any of it.

So here’s the problem today. In the past they could create exclusives cheap enough and have no one buy or play them, but today the cost to create a game that is worthy enough to brag about is too just too expensive. The boost to the install base just isn’t enough anymore. This is compounded by the fact that the advancement in CPUs and GPUs isn’t moving fast enough so they produce cheaper more profitable consoles by mid-generation.

Can someone please post that GTA San Andreas meme of “ah shit, here we go again” because it’s very fitting. This shitty conversation is never ever going to end. UGH.

People will stfu once more games drop, and then do it again when there are breaks.

I could say Fable, Perfect Dark and State of Decay 3 are being considered for release on PS5 and still be as right as Tom Warren. When they get released as exclusive I’ll just say that plans changed. All of this screams of taking advantage of Xbox’s unclear stance on exclusivity at the moment to throw anything at the wall see what sticks.

Just boring, low effort journalism, how about you go just one step further Tom and confirm if this stuff is really happening. Then you have some actual news and credibility.

If I had to guess which games go multiplat, it would be games that don’t have a strong association with Xbox or games with a strong association with another brand. For example, no to Halo and Gears but yes to Perfect Dark, KI, or Banjo (Nintendo).

Like if they couldn’t justify a new KI for just Xbox, It being on a Switch2 makes a ton sense. I think it would sell really well there and even if it doesn’t, it’ll help get the game into tournaments like EVO, especially if there is a PS version.

Why every morning do I read these threads when they’ve a ton of new posts and expect new updates?

I should know by now speculation articles will always crop up till we get official news, and we just get the same back and forth whether the article says full multi-platform or there will still be loads of exclusives.

Surely them all saying different things highlights either they’re making shit up or there’s still discussions ongoing which means no decisions made - and has been pointed out, “considering” can just mean a title was evaluated and rejected for PS ffs, as they would when looking at platforms for any of their games.

Until Xbox confirm anything, all that happens is PS fanboys get to enjoy “Xbot tears” by driving by this and other sites - as was said earlier let’s stop feeding the trolls and the traffic to all those sites with unsubstantiated “insider” info…

We’ve a likely amazing showcase coming up on Sunday that’ll improve the PR around Xbox - I like Tom but do wish him and other “insiders” could just shut up for a bit and let us enjoy, although it’s I guess the fault of the gaming public too by rewarding such behaviour.

Staying out of this and the spoiler threads till Sunday now, will just post in the happier and spoiler-free threads while “working”, finish up Banishers, get further on Humanity and generally just enjoy games until the showcase - it’s going to be a good one!

Which is exactly why these corporations ignore the noise made by fanboys and push on with their strategies of releasing on more platforms, the loud fanboys are a minority and aren’t buying the exclusives in sufficient numbers to warrant keeping titles exclusive to one platform.

I think there is the argument to be made that those fanboys push a narritive and that trickles down to the casual audience

They literally had a podcast talking about the situation.

Hi mates what’s up? It’s been a long time since my last post (jan 2024) but i’ve been very busy with work.

First of all: i’m almost finished Hellblade 2 and let me to say “Oh my God”. It’s really incredible. The new graphic reference for all upcoming games. My specs are really high (rtx 4080) but the game is soo smooth as well with DLSS3. Now i would share with you my considerations about the latest about xbox news:

  1. The leaked “multiplatforms strategy” could kill the XBOX brand itself because many people bought XSX or XSS following the main refrain “XBOX Exclusives”. Many of them bought Xbox only for Bethesda and probably they would had choiced PS5 if they knew that Elder Scrolls, Doom or Fallout would coming to PS5.

The new Doom game as Multiplatform title instead as a exclusive for XBOX/PC is a big Mistake to me because Doom is a console seller. I’m speaking as a PC gamer (my last consoles were X360 and PS4 and i sold both because i always been on PC gaming but halo wars and The Order 1886 convinced me to buy those systems). So, you know how exclusive games are important) and i haven’t interest to see people (PS users) with no games cause because everyone should be happy. Therefore considering a perfect world gaming every players would have to be able to play all games from all studios and brand in its console or PC. But i don’t see PS sell their games on XBOX and also PC is going to receive the big titles after several time. Leave PS as the only reference “High premium” console will be catastrophic for the game industry because we’ll see increasing prices, less choice and variety. So, XBOX have to carry on developing many exclusives because this what it have been said to XBOX users who choided this console;

  1. Gamepass is definitely a fantastic app for XBOX and it could be a “Killer App” with more exclusives not less. Bringing more XBOX games on PS will mean less subcribers.

Netflix, Amazon, Disney…no ones of them bring their best products on the competitor platforms: this is the main rule of the competition. You can grow as Service and console only if you offer titles that competitors can’t offer.

Gamepass was growing with a good percent from its launch to 2022 but we seen a less subscribers in the last years, why? It’s simple: the lack of big titles wich lead the perceptions of people. There are few games of this genre: Spiderman, GTA, Call of Duty, Fallout, Elder Scroll, Fortnite, Gears, Halo and Doom and few others (Nintendo has Zelda and Mario).

So if we look at the last two years what we have? 2022 it was horrible with the lack of big titles and 2023 seen only Starfield as a big title. (and it did a lot for XBOX).

Now we are approching to the best year of XBOX, really best (COD, Doom, Indy, Avowed, AOMRE, STALKER 2 and more) and what Leadership is doing? Bringing more of these big titles on PS: this is a stupid strategy, imho.

We understand that’s probably a decision of Nadella and Amy Hood in the first istance (but also Spencer has its role in this strategy because it’s a senior memeber of MS CDA) but i think they should to see what could happen with all these coming titles and COD into gamepass before surrender.

  1. COD on Gamepass: this could be a game changer if XBOX will use marketing in the best way they can. The latest “State of Play” was ridiculous: PS don’t have big titles until the middle of 2025 (and we always knew it from the strategy plans of PS).

Now, COD is one of the most desired and played game in the world: one of the game that lead the perception of milions of players.

The newest trailer counts more than 9 milions of people in only 3 days. Considering this: XBOX series sold 30/31 milions and PS5 reached 55 milions of units. So it’s a big difference.

But there are almost 50/60 milions of users who have XBOXone or PS4 and didn’t choice what console they will buy next.

So, this is the target that MS is looking for. They want them into XBOX.

The COD’s reveal on june 9th could be the best thing happened to XBOX after many bad news in the last months.

PS has not the marketing for COD and can you realize how many people will see the upcoming XBOX showcase due the reveal of COD? milions and milions. It will probably be the most seen show of the year and also from milions of people who have Xboxone or PS4.

XBOX have to take advantage: show to these people how big is COD on Gamepass and how many great titles they will play on Gamepass too and that XBOX it’s the right console to have if you wanna play to all of the titles (Indy, Doom, Fable etc) with a simply subscrition and joining into XBOX family.

If they are going to show the multiplatforms strategy for most of games of XBOX studios (all studios, including Zenimax and Activision) few days after the show they will cancel their advantage to have the attention of milions and milions of users.

So, MMO should be released on all platforms except the Single Player titles wich should have a sort of exclusivity: timed or full it’s not matter.

The reveal of COD will offer to XBOX the possibility to show the Gamepass value to milions of people and in many countries where Gamepass is nothing.

XBOX don’t be stupid. Look at a long timed strategy. They can sell milions of console. Don’t waste this opportuniy.

Jimmy.

Yes, which was obviously something they were always going to have to do at some point, but info started leaking, making it seem it was in response to the online discourse. The point in question is that they will not base any strategy decisions on outrage from fanboys losing in list wars, rather the sales data.

Which, based on the evidence we’ve seen so far, means very little.

Puts me in mind of the guy way back when there was a massive trend for insiders popping up on a certain forum who took on the task of recording all of the various predictions and outcomes of these insiders in a spreadsheet with success and failure ratings over a number of years.

Unsurprisingly with the exception of a very small minority they were all trading at a massive loss (with vague predictions and “things change” rating as negative). But you could still go to pretty much any forum you’d like to see people signal boosting the proven failures as trusted and proven insiders.

So unless you personally believe a leakers rep. then you should by default treat the info as incorrect either totally or to some degree.

And on an unrelated note @Doncabesa I always have a self imposed twitter ban in the week leading up to the summer showcase to avoid all of this spoilery, FUDy posting and the headline for this post kind of ruined that by transferring it here. I nuderstand the site need for such articles and headlines and I guess they auto populate to the forum, but is there any way that they could be tagged so that I can set all rumour articles to ignore for that period?

My biggest problem turning Xbox into a PC box down the road is all the problems that plagued PC gaming Until now , drivers , PPI, Shader cache, hackers and cheaters. It isnt plug and play and that Will always BE the biggest barrier to.any casual.

I think the best way to look at it is that they’re turning the PC into a console.

Say the console has a Windows kernel and runs stuff like Steam…it’s one hardware spec that’s mass manufactured. A lot like Surface tablets. Come out with a new model every 3-4 years but it’s one set of specs and so there isn’t a need for all the driver stuff.

I get that, but saying that the console hás Windows kernel is different than being able to use Windows apps, first Xbox also ran on Windows ME but it didnt run Windows games, maybe it wasnt the point at the time but that seems challenging to implement, I also agree that MS seems the most capable to pull something like that off, but the message isn’t very clear by now.

I think of the big 3 they are the only one capable of pulling that off. Soy could definitely go the Linux route though if they needed to but would need some form of partnership with Valve to get anything beyond to work and would most likely be dependent on them too much so only Steam would probably be made on their platform. Doubt they’d pay MS to integrate some form of Windows kernel on PS lol

So MS is positioned as the only player which can afford, both financially and from a technical standpoint, to make this move. It’s still hard to predict how it’ll turn out, but it could very well be a game changer.

Anything showcase related I’m obfuscating in the headline for the forum
