I don’t see ‘others’ including Nintendo though, just can’t imagine it lol.
That’s true, the numbers aren’t exactly amazing - but their structure is set up (i’d guess) to ensure they prioritise sales on the console release. Anything on pc is basically a bonus. Which is why I think that is sort of ideal for the likes of Hi Fi Rush if it goes multi-plat.
Plus Sony don’t exactly help themselves making the late pc release full price.
I don’t believe for a second that Sony and Nintendo would do the same thing. This is a one way street if they’re doing this. No PR in the world will stem the shitshow of discourse that it would create either, I think it would be worse than even the 2013 discourse was. If they do this I am not throwing my xbox in the trash or anything , but I will likely be wondering if I should bother with the next gen Xbox as opposed to a decent gaming PC ( which I was considering already TBH)
I just don’t get this at all. COD pretty much prints money along with Minecraft , ABK , Blizzard and presumably King all being multiplatform. Why do any more than that, and risk alienating your hardcore fans who buy your console at launch. While Sony will 100% still be aggressively locking down everything they possibly can and Nintendo will keep doing Nintendo.
Sony is already doing it, they have MLB and whatever Bungie puts out. It wouldn’t be a leap for the other GaaS games they are working to go on additional platforms.
I don’t think they’ll be porting one and done games though.
Yeah porting games like Hi Fi Rush is a mistake IMO. PS owners aren’t going to buy it at the volume that would justify doing it. They don’t even support their own games.
I’m not convinced. I think they will certainly be the slowest to change, but I think time is against them.
Nintendo is still a publicly traded company and investors demand growth. Nintendo struck gold with the Switch coming off a commercial flop with the Wii-U and have sold astronomical numbers of hardware and software. Even with a 130+ million consoles and hundreds of millions of pieces of software they are pulling in the lowest revenue of the big three (though they are doing the best profitability wise).
But where is there for them to go? Even if the Switch 2 holds the same market share as the current switch the room for growth is minimal. At some point they are going to be forced to adapt, the question is just what that looks like.
99% of them will be too busy playing a billion games hitting Game Pass day one to care if old ports are going to other platforms
I’m not sure this is the right way. With these staggered releases you have to do development, QA, marketing and so on multiple times.
Profits at Playstation were going down the last 3 years from ~15 percent to ~5 percent iirc
This is a good point, Nintendo seem like a company set in their ways but we’ve already seen that there is a cap in the console market, Switch/Nintendo are more popular than they’ve ever been and yet they still aren’t selling more than their highest selling system with the DS
They have nowhere near the budgets of Xbox/PS games but their costs are still going to keep going to up like everyone else’s
With the way things are going, I feel like everyone is going to have to change up their strategies one way or another
It will have an impact but not that large imo . People sleep on the fact GPUs are expensive and not everybody is willing to drop $1000+ on a gaming rig . Also, I don’t think Microsoft moving to pc impacted console much . I believe that had more due to losing the worst gen possible and people buying consoles their friends are on . That then created an issue where most people aren’t going to switch back or to Xbox because not enough reasons too because it’s viewed as being to similar to playstation
I don’t see it either, but it’s something I’ve dreamed of.
It’s just getting way moer expensive buying games on console now. The reseller game for PC has dramatically shifted my buying habits.
On Xbox I use gamepass so they get my 11 bucks a month . On ps I wait till big games go on a big saw unless it’s something I really want. I don’t get fomo but I buy a lot of games for 10 bucks or less and Sony first party games I usually wait till they are at the most 20 bucks
Gamepass is great don’t get it twisted, but if I see a launch title $20-30 cheaper at launch on GMG or CDKeys I usually just bounce for that deal . Like right now I bought Tekken 8 and DD2 all for around $40 a pop at launch.
There’s reseller market for Xbox games.
Oh absolutely, I agree. I on ocassion pick some cheap ones off of Eneba and CDKeys myself
as a consumer you should be always looking for a good deal and to pay less. good for you
The reseller market is one of the key reasons I made Xbox my primary platform for my games library.
Ever since the news about select xbox made games being said to make ports for other consoles, am slowing thinking that it might be the likes of Grounded and Sea of Thieves, both games that have Live Service elements that could benefit AAA production of games within the Xbox Game Studios. For smaller games i think Pentinment makes sense compared to the likes of Hi-Fi Rush, since i feel like Hi-Fi Rush has become a stable on Xbox while the former i can see people going to it more for their niche interest.
While others may call this dumb, i think its plausible that Nintendo may get their hands on the Psychonaunt series, both one and two. To me, i think that would be quite interesting just to see if there is a buzz around this style of game within the Nintendo Community.
If those are the games being ported, then i would not have much on an issue. However if they do put Hi-Fi Rush on other consoles, then they better have a good fucking explanation for it. If not, they better get their asses in check and be more truthful about their wording. Cause Xbox deserves to have exclusive content produce in Japan that can indice player towards their brand, and having a colorful hack and Slash game like Hi-Fi Rush is a indicative of this.
Sorry for the bad language, am usually not like this or being a fanboy whatsoever but as a consumer of the brand since i was just 10 years of age, i feel i need to express this opinion.
