To be fair we have taken the time to discuss the validity of the rumours and the sources behind them, I personally looked into the history of both of the major leakers that were sources on this story and shared the information I found. While I would never say any leaked information could be taken as certain, I think it’s reasonable to lean towards the leaks being accurate at this point.
That said, it is healthy for all not to go beyond “leaning” till anything is confirmed.
A problem with leaks & insider information isn’t just the validity of their sources (or their belief in its veracity), it’s the fact the corporate world moves very quickly. I mean even MS had a huge leak during the FTC-Activision trial which showed slides featuring future hardware refreshes including an all digital Series X… which has since been scrapped, apparently.
Point being: maybe at some point during the Activision proceedings there were conversations behind closed doors about certain games going to Sony & Nintendo’s platforms. We also know there was some back & forth email exchanges between Spencer & Ryan on the issue of exclusivity. Maybe Hi-Fi Rush & Sea of Thieves were suggested… & then the idea scrapped. Who knows.
Naturally I’ll retract all this if the rumor turns out to be true but ‘insiders’ should probably be aware of the fact corporate plans change all the time.
That’s obviously fair too. If all we/anybody talked about was confirmed information, things would get dry pretty quickly. Lots of engagement comes from rumors and speculation and these particular rumors have either come from reputable leakers or have been backed up by multiple reputable individuals. I’m also of the opinion these rumors are true, at least to some extent.
I also agree we shouldn’t burn the house down, expect Xbox to go full third party, and get rid of our Xboxes, especially since nothing has happened yet, but there’s nothing wrong with expressing frustrations and how this seems like a bad move for Xbox if there’s credence to the rumors.
The Hi-Fi rumor is probably such and will stay that way. I’m sure just from the responses on this thread the Xbox management must have had an earful. The Sea of thieves’ idea does sound like one that many fans have been pushing and I doubt it would have much impact on Xbox’s health. I’m sure Xbox would like their own Fortnite from the different publishers under them especially as some of this multiplayer IPs can now stand alone as a platform and with AI increase could give them a market in this space.
Also, I do think it is this year that Xbox is supposed to release their Mobile Xbox store with Gamepass included. Phil Spencer has said they are working with their partners and publishers and developers on it, this could definitely curry favors for Nintendo.
Ultimately my thoughts were I was fine with HFR on Switch 2, I don’t really think HFR and Sea of Thieves and “more to come” on Nintendo -and- PS is great for the console side of the Xbox ecosystem though.
But as I’ve been saying for a while now what’s really switching me to PC is:
Fanatical, gives you a code for Steam. My younger brother prefers Cdkeys but it’s like 3 more dollars there lol. I have used them before for pre-order games (Fate Samurai/Remnant being the most recent) so that’s where I’ll get DD2. And yes they really do just charge you the price shown on the store lol.
I don’t mind previously exclusive games being multiplatform, but my biggest issue is communication (which is something I’ve complained about in the past with Xbox multiple times).
Personally, I still think exclusivity is dumb for the long run in most cases. It gets even more quesionable when you start including third party licenses (like Blade, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Indy, etc.), but that’s just my two cents.
Of course, this is under the assumption these rumors are true.
One would hope so. But the sources aren’t exactly terrible ones that came with it. But yeah, Xbox sure surprised the hell out of us with Indiana Jones. The announcement of a DD isn’t that shocking though, we all expected it.
While true, I’m not the biggest fan of putting established teams on licensed titles.
Seeing Insomniac not working on a new IP until god knows how many years makes me sad.
Like, I think its cool Blade is getting some love, but damn is Arkane one of the last team’s I’d want working on it. Not because I think they’ll do a bad job, but because they create unique titles on their own.
Well the team seemed pretty hyped on working on it and and from what we know they themselves pitched it to Marvel/Disney. But I get what you’re saying on principle. Sucks that Insomniac is pretty much a Mahvel factory for the foreseeable future.
Persona source is terrible.
Grubb would still be right but it could just be speculation since Totilo confirmed an internal discussion from last year and plans change.
Although HFR and/or Pentiment on Switch is possible. MS is good at acceding to a studio’s requests.
