The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

The whole hyberbolic dooming is literally just a narrative created with the most insane tunnel-vision. “What’s that, all those documents, testimonies, and quotes that contradict our narrative are being mentioned? Ignore, ignore!”

Exactly.

Now the one thing I will say, even though I tend to sprinkle a fair amount of sass most of the time, If you are someone who only buys one system and some of the games that lured you to one system or another are suddenly available elsewhere and having that knowledge would have changed your decisions…alright. I feel you. That is a rational position.

But in the end, to me at least, game pass is a game changer on that front.

Well, I don’t have a meme, as I am over the age of 18. But, xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation non of them actually care about you. Bet with your wallet and go with the best option. You seem delusional that somehow exclusivity to one platform is actually benefiting you somehow?

For me if xbox doesn’t start producing higher quality games (imo) see ya. Traded for switch 2 GG.

Just watch Sea of Thieves getting a higher meta score than Xbox/PC :joy:

The reason I want xbox games on PS. To see the tax lifted!

It would make sense because sea of thieves had a messy launch and over time updates made it better

I see people say a lot that this move devalues their investment in the ecosystem. I can only speak personally but I’ve been part of the ecosystem since Xbox launched in the UK back in 2002. I’ve never been laser focused on exclusives like a lot of gamers, but I’ve known the pros and cons of making Xbox my only console. Since then Xbox have made huge efforts to make sure to this day I can potentially still play games from the console I invested in all those years ago. And we know another console is coming, potentially in 2028. Assuming backwards compatibility carries on, mid way into that gen I’ll be 30 years deep, still able to access games and saves from Xbox’s gone by so personally speaking, some games coming out on PS5/Nintendo doesn’t make me think what a waste of money Xbox has been. Each generation has brought something to the table that’s made me think “yeah I’m glad I stuck with the ecosystem” and Gamepass is probably the biggest. Again this is just me but so long as I’m still getting the likes of Hellblade, Avowed, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom 3, Fable, etc at launch and on Gamepass then it’s an ecosystem I’ll be sticking with. No way am I prepared to switch over and potentially wait years for them to be ported

As for the whole “why buy an Xbox”. I think Microsoft this gen and next need to be even more aggressive with pricing AND consistently bring out top games. Christmas in the UK and parts of Europe show there is some interest in Xbox at the right price. I don’t think this porting stuff will impact casuals as much, what will is quality games. The perception still is Xbox doesn’t make as good as games as the competition consistently (which in some ways impacts Gamepass’ rep). 2023 should have been the year to start to turn that around and 2024 set up to continue that, but Redfall, Forza and Starfield all had their own issues. Get back the form from 2021 on a consistent basis and with the right console price people will take notice. Plus aggressive Gamepass marketing as well.

Last thing I will say it’s another reason leaks can be so negative. We have no idea what the plan with this was and when or how it was to be announced but leaks have created such a shit storm. To the point I’ve seen comments where people say they don’t care about the Developer Direct anymore :man_facepalming:t6:

Nothing stopping them from going back and reviewing it again.

Lets be honest, gamepass isnt going to increase xbox sells at all, xbox consoles are going to continue because nintendo and playstation doesnt want it in their platforms, but so far we have barely seen any change, people will still pay full price for their games because thats how it has been for decades

Maybe playstation exclusives havent sold that much but still they play an important role for them, and going to pc doesnt take value because not everybody is able to invest on a good pc

Is fair to be mad at this, you dont need to defend every decision xbox makes because at the end of the day they doesnt care about you or me or anybody

It will just be pricing now that their games will come to other platforms, i mean i dont think they even need to expand their consoles around the world, just gamepass, leave xbox consoles just in america, everybody else can just play gamepass on pc or buy their games in switch and ps5

EA and ubisoft should join them aswell, making an entire system just for a service

Games aren’t movies.

Native software running on actual computer hardware runs better than streaming. This won’t change for a while (if ever).

People need to be careful with tech predictions, i.e. certain analysts have predicted the demise of home consoles for over a decade now (“this is the last gen!” etc.) yet culturally & in terms of consumer habits, the PS5 & Switch in particular sell like hot cakes.

Preparing for a post-console world… at a time when people want consoles & that post-console world is nowhere to be seen is not exactly something I’d consider a good strategy.

Just because the Xbox Series haven’t done as well as MS (& let’s face it all of us) had expected, it doesn’t mean consoles are dying or somehow a brave new world without consoles can be forced through. It just means the console marketplace prefers a couple of other products.

Ye, phil saved xbox to turn it into a third party, now sony will increase the prices for their games now that they will have zero competition

Thanks a lot phil

You forgot that sony is the leader right now, they have a reason to port their games to pc because is a big market, the same cant be said about xbox also now that if this rumors ends being true then it will creates even more confusion about their next games

And believe it or not most people have zero problems paying for a game rather than paying a service, and you cant say that xbox made things clear early, they never did, but ok now we know that every smaller title and every live service game is going to come everywhere else, hi fi rush being the best game from last year will be loved in every other platform but dont worry, you will be able to continue playing redfall just on the xbox “ecosystem”

But hey, lets be mad at the people for being stupid for believing that a exclusive game would continue being exclusive, nobody should dare to criticize the beloved xbox, sometimes you just havd to much of yourself dude but allright, lets wait and see if your opinion actually works while others move to other platforms

Trying to make people fans of “Microsoft Gaming” in the same way that they are fans of “Xbox” won’t happen IMO. Nobody calls themselves Tencent fans. That’s why the idea of “Microsoft will surpass Tencent in revenue” rings hollow for many.

Yep, it will just be another third party

If these rumors are true and I still have significant doubts, I can’t figure out the financials. Yes they would make more off the games that get ported over but they would be sacrificing console sales, 3rd party software sales and gamepass revenue on console. I can’t see how they make either more revenue or profit going down the rumored path.

I also don’t see how they spin this to the public without massive backlash. Can you really say only this small sampling of games will be available on competing platforms but these other ones won’t and expect people to belive that especially after some of what had been said before? And do they expect the box to sell based solely on gamepass?

About the only thing I can think of is they believe that regulators may force an open store policy on console like what is happening to Android and IOS devices but even if that was true it wouldn’t happen for the next couple of years.

For a mod on a discussion forum, you’re pretty dismissive of others’ opinions just because they think differently than you and you come across as pretty arrogant. I’ll be honest and say it’s pretty off-putting and isn’t the best look to newcomers when one of the persons modding the community comes across in that manner. Also, aren’t you being an armchair analyst by also claiming that the leaked Sony slide that says “multiplatform” totally means they’re going to start releasing their games on rival consoles and not just on PC (continued releases and maybe day-and-date) and mobile? If that ends up being the case more than a couple years down the line, you can’t go around, singing your own praises about how you were proven right and that was their plan all along.

It’s possible to want both Xbox the console and Xbox the platform to do well and this move benefits one while being actively detrimental to the other. Some of the takes here are over the top, but if these rumors are true, I think it’s fair for diehard Xbox fans/users to feel like this is a move that benefits everyone but them. Releasing their games on rival platforms is probably (maybe?) good for the platform because it’s more revenue for Xbox, and it’s good for Playstation/Nintendo users because they get more great games, but as someone who has an Xbox console, and who has had an Xbox console since the OG Xbox, it gives me less of an incentive to get an Xbox console. Why would I get an Xbox when I can get another console and play their exclusives and some of Xbox’s? Again, if this rumor ends up being true, as someone who prefers console gaming, I’ll just get PC Gamepass and get all my third party games on Playstation instead, so staying in the ecosystem, but bailing on the console and they’ll lose out on the cut of any games I buy.

I think people in this conversation (whether here or anywhere) need to be careful, i.e. this is how Star Wars died, aka fans turning on each other & lots of finger pointing.

The absolute bottom line & something worth repeating a thousand times is people want their $500 investment to be supported going forwards & most of all attract a large enough player base to make it a worthwhile investment. It’s not about depriving others of games (some rare cases aside yet I sincerely doubt they’re the majority), it’s about ensuring our own purchase is justified.

The writing on the wall in the ‘doom scenario’ is as follows: Xbox releases a flurry of its titles on rival systems (including the PS5), which leads to a further cratering of Xbox Series sales because it’s a devalued product in the eyes of prospective buyers (who’ll choose Sony’s system because their exclusives aren’t coming to Xbox, are they?).

That’s the literal unambivalent bottom line of this entire conversation. Personally speaking I’m too old to be bothered by any of this, i.e. life moves on & businesses change; but I can definitely see where Xbox fans are coming from with complaints about MS releasing its titles on other systems. It’s about the subtracted value of the Xbox home console, i.e. at a time when it’s really not doing well in the sales charts.

If Microsoft Gaming is not a thing, then there will be no Xbox anymore. There are benefits and drawback of being part of a 3000Billion company.

There is a collateral danger. If Xbox fans spend thir time crying to the death of Xbox, do not be surprised that Sony fanboys, which are the majority of internet noise, do not be surprised that those tell the same thing and be heard.

That is something that Apple fans learnt when they were small. Do not cry about your group if you are small, it will make it even smaller and make wolves cry with you.
