He said their games will only come to the platform that has Game Pass. So, that’s still questionable if rumor is true. Like I said, if true, I would assume he knows his history and ready to explain why.
Problem is Tim was not addressing us. I think at the end of the day people just want to understand, if there is a ditch in front of you knowing helps you make the decision that’s best for you. I see it the same way. A lot of things that Xboc tried to do in the Xbox one generation are being now accepted as people now understand them but that was not the case the last time. I wonder how the developer direct will be now, as gamers will be going in for answers and not the games.
He did not say that.
He said Game Pass is the differentiator for their hardware and one of the main draws. He never once said games wouldn’t go anywhere else, because it wasn’t asked, because it wouldn’t have been answered.
As far as the original quote in the Bethesda round table it as “expect games where game pass is”, and not "we’ll never put them where it isn’t.
People seem shocked that high paid executives are speaking in biz talk. They are well paid in large part because they can sound like they’re saying a lot in public while actually saying very little.
This is the problem one should not have to assume it should be made clear. This all feels like they want to be like Steam, problem is the Windows store is pretty much dead for gaming making them have to use the Xbox store which is attached to the box. If the Xbox store was vibrant outside the plastic box this would be viable but dropping the box means saying goodbye to that store and becoming a fully multiplat publisher. Problem there is without the box again you lose a lot of subs which are very difficult to gain back or move around.
Try to, because PlayStation will eventually do the same as will nintendo. Times are changing.
I’m not sure some of you understand what the point of a message board is, respectfully. Some of these replies are getting very cliche and almost robotic. If people decide to discuss something you don’t deem worthy of discussion, telling them to go play some games in a snarky tone and automatically labeling perspectives that you deem negative toward Xbox as concern trolling/FUD/doomposting is just as unproductive as you believe the current conversation is.
The Windows Store is not “pretty much dead for gaming”. I’m not sure why you think that.
I meant the store itself as a place for gaming transactions. I think at this point Steam is the standard although I do wonder if they could re-energize Battle.net. People are certainly playing Game Pass on the windows store, but I doubt they are buying anything there.
Battle.net is built for a dozen or so games and nothing else. It barely handles those well most of the time.
That part where it says “ a much faster way to get there” quote is telling. They have no patience in building a strong first party ecosystem due to the time and effort( and money) it takes, so in order to maximize profit as soon as possible, they probably decided to release first party games( don’t know to what extent yet) to other platforms to make a quick buck. Very corporate but expected for a trillion dollar company.
The most frustrating if this is true is the folks who have been yelling third-party for the longest will have a massive ego boost and the worst part is, they had no backing until randomly this moment right now. Inside, they’re like “Wait, I’m right???” So there’s that to deal with. Tell you one thing. This will be the perfect medicine to quit following social for good. Lol.
They literally have the biggest/strongest 1st party ecosystem now after spending ungodly amounts of money and a lot of time.
Remains to be seen about the concept of “first party”, my opinion of course.
So now you’re creating your own definition of standard terms?
No I want mods to get off my arse for every little opinion I said, it’s not deep.
Hmm maybe they port all future GaaS titles to all platforms going forward except things like Forza/Gears/Halo because those are core titles that Xbox are known for aren’t the whole “but if you do SoT it makes sense to do all” no, no it doesn’t. People aren’t out here thinking SoT is a core Xbox title let’s be real.
Launch GaaS titles Multiplatform, capture all the revenue to pump out 300m AAA 1st party exclusives that draw people into the console, give Xbox bonuses to all those GaaS titles as well early access betas and so on, XP boosts and whatever.
If they do this, messaging is a fucking key point that they need to nail, if they mess it up then it could potentially be another black eye.
If Microsoft can capture GaaS crowds on Xbox+Cloud+MobilePC+Switch+Playstation that will be a huge windfall, if people are playing Microsoft GaaS titles they won’t be playing other GaaS titles which could really harm Sony’s/Nintendo’s GaaS goals.
Maybe this is the shake up in the industry that’s needed for Xbox, maybe it’s a huge mistake, maybe it’s something all these companies are gonna move to and Xbox/MS are just moving first like always. It would be kinda hilarious for Xbox to do this move and everyone loses their shit for only 2 years later Sony announces the exact same move.
I am not engaging in this conversation as a mod, I’m simply talking to people about stuff. I haven’t moderated anything in this thread because I’m taking a part in it. It would be unfair if I then heavily moderated it.
Regarding the Bethesda roundtable, that isn’t what he said at all. The exact quote was “But if you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists.” IF they bring Hi-Fi Rush to another platform, they’ve either changed strategies or Phil lied at the roundtable.
But Starfield is exclusive, Minecraft is on all platforms does that mean he lied? can’t both be true, it is about delivering exclusive games (Starfield) while also porting other games.
The chart from court is a good explanation on their strategy for exclusive and multiplatform. Hi-Fi technically falls under exclusive, so it can be questionable.
The bottom line is this: he will have to explain again if this whole thing is true. We are consumer and if we ask, we shall get the answer.
