The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

My theory about this is Microsoft restructured their goals after ABK went through. We have to remember Satya’s bonuses changed from being tied to gamepass sub to growth in revenue in content services. Satya is most likely not hitting his CEO goals with the current model which is why the door is now open to putting xbox games on other platforms since his bonuses are now tied to revenue rather than gamepass sub.

Again, this is just a theory if all of these rumors happen

…And if they are going through with it , they should be trying to control the narrative as soon as possible as opposed to letting “shitty clickbait website 456 and shitty gaming Youtuber 327” dictate it for them. One would think…

As long as that remains the case it’ll be fine, but I can’t deny that this remains one of my worries, that they will drop out. Decide that taking a loss on console production just isn’t worth it anymore. I hope my fears are dead wrong.

And I’ve seen that some people here think that some third parties might not bother with Xbox anymore. But why would this be?

One thing is for sure, I am not moving to PC.

I realize that, it would be shocking if they did. But then it simply would mean “these games only come to where Game Pass is” is just no longer valid.

They’ve probably been at work for a day or two at most after their holiday breaks. This will blow over, because everything does. It’s .01% the deal people are making it out to be.

I 100% disagree with people saying this will “blow over”. For instance, if they have a developer direct later this month, I can guarantee you the main topic will NOT be the games themselves, but the exclusivity of those games.
Until they clear up these rumors emphatically, the question of exclusivity will dominate any Xbox game announcement.

Everything blows over after a short period of time. This is no different. Fuck me, look at the real world, most people want to “move on” from the Gaza situation. Attention spans are short

I know this will have been said plenty of times but I’ve got to get this off my chest.

If Xbox release say Psyconaunts or HiFi Rush on Switch I’m ok with that, what I am not ok with is them bring HiFi Rush, Sea of thieves etc to Play Station. From devaluing the platform, to solidifying the constant which platform question we face with every game (remember blade) and some much more.

I’ve been Xbox since the 360 but if they bring games to Playstation when next gen roles around I’ll be leaving the Xbox ecosystem for PlayStation, switch and a PC/Steam Deck. Why well because Xbox as a ecosystem gives me nothing. All the third party games I buy currently on Xbox I’ll grab on steam for less. Xbox first party I’ll get on PC or switch or PS.

This would eventually (and I think quickly) significantly hurt Xbox as less players enter the ecosystem and more leave it for rival platforms. All the 30% cuts from third party games and transactions will reduce.

Ok rant over, I hope this all blow over and nothing changes but honestly Microsoft is king of doing the right thing then diving off a cliff.

The thing that annoys me about it is. The media are quick to forget the PlayStation struggling from the leak some even chose not to report it lessening the impact.

They won’t be so kind to Xbox this will be dragged out for far longer.

Whilst I agree the casuals won’t even know about all this stuff.

To the hardcore it just knocks the wind of their sails. Xbox was beginning to get a bit of momentum behind them & with the leak it seemed as though as Xbox has the opportunity to turn the narrative around.

If Xbox had done this in years time with 2 years of games barring redfall that had began turning it around and remainee exclusive then I don’t think most would care.

Choosing to do this now (reportedly), timing wise hurts as they don’t have that credit in the bank to show that’s it worth having an Xbox yet.

Feel like shooting themselves in the foot PR wise

Some of my friends in real life are very excited about this SOT rumour.

They don’t have Xbox’s so I rarely get the chance to play with them. I’ll take playing with my irl buddies over the perception of “devaluing” a platform any day of the week.

I can’t disagree with the feeling that Xbox always finds the rake to step on.

There is likely a good way to navigate making moves for Nintendo and PlayStation users, but it’s going to be threading a needle so as not to lose confidence from Xbox users.

Xbox fans are even better at finding rakes :valle:

I have been with Xbox since the OG box, coming from Dreamcast, straight to Xbox, so I may have a little PTSD with regards to my console of choice going third party.

Sometimes Microsoft can be the stupidist, tone deaf company there is, especially when it comes to gaming. The whole Xbox One reveal shows that. If they think that they can keep their 60 million console base, and port their first party games to the PS5 and Switch, and have the best of both worlds they are inept, and will destroy the console. Perception is a monster that can kill. With the constant talk about Xbox games going to other platforms, and the pathetic position they have allowed the XSXS sales to get to, there is a faint smell of death around the console. You have to remember, that every year you have a new generation of console gamers coming into the market (kids getting their first console), but you also have another older generation leaving the console. MS needs to capture a high % of those new kids, who havent already invested into an ecosystem yet. They need to be the target. However, those kids dont dont pay for the console, their parents do. When the parents go into a game shop to get advice about PS or Xbox, you dont think the sales person is going to say “well, you are going to get more Xbox games on PS, and you arnt going to get any PS games on Xbox, and there is a good chance MS could stop making Xboxs and go third party”, then you are just clowing yourself. The air around the console will be death. Xbox will die a slow death, and as Xbox gets less and less sales, more and more games will go to PS, and the console will be killed.

As a die hard Xbox gamer I am jaded over the constant bullshit I have put up with over the last 10 years. I have invested $1000s in the ecosyetem, not just for myself, but my kid. Two XSX, two Xbox One Xs, hundreds of games etc. The death of Xbox stuffs up my entire investment in that ecosystem. I could have invested that same money into PS, and not be worrying about of my ecosystem is going to be dead soon, and all those games are worthless. This is why I care about the fortunes of Xbox. This is why I want to see them take ground off PS.

If MS thinks gamepass will be the knight in shinning armour to keep the masses onboard, then again, they just dont get it. You can sit there and scream from the rooftops about how good value GP is, but the overwhelming majority of PC gamers prefer to buy their games outright on Steam than via GP, and Sony PlayStation users are also buying their games outright. Thinking that they can have their cake and eat it, by putting their games on the opposition console, and then keeping everyone in the Xbox ecosystem becaue of GP , is just stupid.

Sigh.

What is the point of having cake, if not to eat it? Never got that phrase.

Again, this was during the FTC trial where he was trying to paint Sony in a negative/powerful light and Xbox in a positive/weak one.

Still think that despite all this, Game Pass is way too good of a deal to leave behind. If I were going to PC, I’d be going to one that supports Game Pass.

Do you still have the cake after eating it?

You create feritilizer

I agree, but this statement is still correct. I don’t trust Sony to use Sea of Thieves and possibly other Xbox games revenue in an honest manner.

It would be the most Sony thing ever to use this money to moneyhat some game.

Microsoft Gaming is the second most valuable company in gaming. This could give Sony some real money if it goes multiplatform.

I also think there is way too much emphasis from the hardcore fans in the gaming bubble on PC,

When I hear jez on Xbox two talk about kids preferring PC over console these days, I can’t help but think everyone is too deep into the bubble to see the wood for the trees.

Yes a few kids may play on PC, but console is where the casuals (majority) play their games. The kids that play football (soccer) on a weekend with their mates aren’t jumping on the pc that have to be purposefully built to play, no these kids are jumping on their console to play fifa Fortnite etc. turn on a play they don’t give a shit about frame rate etc

I played pc back in the day when PC’s didn’t have to be purposefully built, I played on my Packard bell pentium 3 pc to play PC only games like championship manager(football manager now) & point & click games like monkey island 3 and broken sword 1 and 2 everything else was console whether it be sega Nintendo PlayStation xbox I had them all.

And many many more casuals will just prefer to play on console take that option away they won’t flock to PC they’ll just jump to PlayStation & buy the games they release on there

This is the risk that Xbox faces if they do ever decide to make the console less appealing and eventually let it die. Casuals won’t flock to find a way to play Xbox games. They’ll settle for the easy option and play their games there
