Because at worst case they should treat it like a marketing deal

2 of them made by now defunct studios. SMH.

Overreactions as usual. Never fail me Xboxera, you never fail me…

Next Xbox being closely tied to PC (and them not subsidizing) likely means there will be OEM Xbox’s. Which may just be a Windows PC running an Xbox shell.

That game should 100% be multi plat lol.

Nah. Over reacting would be cancelling my game pass, trashing my Series X off a rumor Doom 3 could show up on PS5 2 years after release on Xbox and PC.

This is level headed reactionism. This, the next hardware being a PC in a box all points to one thing. Xbox ceding the fight, the only console without exclusives.

It’s a waste of brain power to even contemplate what will happen with TES6. We have like 4+ years of an evolving strategy before that game hits.

It’s all about access not console sales. They said they are aiming for 3 billion plus gamers those will never come from consoles. I think their focus now will be more on PC and devices that they can leverage their software and services on. They are also probably banking on the 50 million plus Copilot+ PCs estimated to be sold within the next 12 months. Consoles cost them 100 to 200 dollars per system so that isn’t going to be too attractive to Amy Hood and Satya.

Nah. I do believe we will still see the new Xbox and probably in 2026. But it does seem MS is not about the baby steps and definitely making moves, we might not like it but they really don’t care. I genuinely believe the new Xbox will come and it will be up to us to decide whether to get it or not, I plan to get it. After that generation…is anyone’s guess.

If this is the route then they seriously need to improve the windows PC store. It’s better today than what it was in the past, but they need to make it much better if they want to maximize revenue.

I don’t think ‘want to kill Xbox consoles’ is true, they don’t benefit from killing Xbox. But Xbox is not their priority, and focusing on Xbox as a priority prevents them from making other moves.

I personally feel that the PC talk is a good plan for them to explore the multi platform side of things will still keeping the console base satiated (even if the numbers are much lower).

I agree about next gen. That doesnt mean they arent already laying the ground for what they want to be as a videogame company in the future.

They aren’t writing off the Series gen. They’re going to write off the Xbox brand as a whole.

The simple truth is: The brand is worthless everywhere except the US. A result of being mismanaged for more than a decade.

  • They can’t sell games on their own platform - people aren’t buying them because of Game Pass.

  • They can’t grow Game Pass because nobody wants to buy the console.

  • They can’t kill Game Pass (yet) because Xbox players would abandon the platform even faster than they currently are.

  • So they’re going to let the platform fade away/ die slowly and at the same time focus on being a publisher on platforms that actually matter: Mobile, PC, PS and Nintendo.

I am of the belief you cant have your cake and eat it. And I think you can easily see how there are two main opinions going on at Xbox at the moment. Public messages are so confusing.

With releasing games on Playstation they are killing Xbox consoles in the sense that in the medium term this will allow them to say, “Xbox has grown out of its own console”, “It is not worth it for us to make consoles”. This as a strategy to validate their new positioning.

I have a Series X and a PC with an RTX 4090, and I definitely play more of the games now on PC due to the raw power. But I still enjoy gaming on console at times too. So I hope they continue to invest in their own hardware options. I am most excited about the games themselves, but Phil and Team Xbox better be prepared for talking about whatever their going forward plan is after their showcase in settings such as the IGN interview with Phil for example.

From Xbox’s perspective (IMO) console sales are not doing them any favors and they’d be much more profitable (yeah, presumably even including the platform cuts) as a multi platform publisher. They can release their games everywhere, make a ton of money and sell (many) fewer consoles.

They will continue to make console hardware, it will support PC so even at low volume the owners of that hardware will never have to worry about having limited access to games. The console hardware ha minimal to no subsidy because they aren’t making a bunch of extra money by having you locked into the ecosystem.

This is my read on what they are preparing for, and it all falls into place IMO.

Not true. They aren’t killing anything but adapting to changes. Would you rather they be closed? There will still be exclusives. I think right now everyone is just trying to find growth wherever they can.

As long as they put good effort in new Xbox hardware, like they sure did with One X and Series, I’m good. I do wonder how many people will abandon Xbox as a whole because of this direction they are going into. Hopefully not so much that some publishers start to question if it’s still worth it for them. But that remains to be seen.

Personally I’ll stick with Xbox the console if they make it worth it for us.

Saw a tweet just now someone saying everyone will be hyped for the Xbox show, except Xbox players. I will never understand this way of thinking. As if my hype for a game dies down because PS players can play them too, lol.

Yeah, I expect Gears 6 to be announced as exclusive, or at least not with any PS logos or whatsoever. Doesn’t mean it can’t come later, same as Indiana Jones. I don’t expect that to be MP all of a sudden.

I think what could help Microsoft a lot is the price increase that is coming to PC components. If they’re able to get their next console priced right, then they might be fine if the rumor about PC box
