What is there to gain on PS5 pro when you can go PC and get everything with better chances of longevity. We are talking about a company that struggled to put 2 factor authentication in their system for the longest time and even now BC is still not perfect.
Some people just arent on board with PC in general. I’ve found it to be a pretty painless experience, but maybe it’s cuz I spent a ton or it’s just gotten better with time.
I’m just not confident in them (PlayStation) at all.
I think PC is becoming more accessible than ever and you even have all these handhelds being a product of that. In any case I just don’t think PlayStation is a better option.
For me consoles are the easy way to play on the big TV - I much prefer Xbox but I’ll likely get the PS5 Pro and did eventually get a PS4 last generation, as I like to catch up on what I’ve missed in their original environment.
Sony games on PC haven’t generally been the best optimised, and I need to upgrade my PC graphics card which is going to cost me best part of a grand (at which point in a year or two the CPU, RAM and motherboard will have to be next) - so I can definitely understand why those want to stick on consoles do so, and why Steam Decks have become popular…
I’m supposed to care about a logo for release on other consoles? lol
At this rate, you might as well suggest what Ubisoft was accused to do: pop up ads when you pause the game and reads, “Buy Xbox now!”
My hot take : Microsoft dedicated gaming consoles will be around longer than Playstation consoles.
Yeah i use my console for most of my gaming, haven’t got a pc anymore for the first time in ages and have moved to Apple as my daily driver and some light gaming.
Can’t be bothered about console wars myself all that crap feels juvenile and wholly strange to me,i don’t have extensive library of games either or any subscriptions as i tend to play one game for months and then stop when i’m through with it.
Really don’t care which console i own,i’m not a shareholder of these companies and tend to migrate from generation to generation to the one which seems to offer more and has my favourite games/series of games.
A bit extreme but I get the sentiment. I usually wait until the tail end of a gen to buy a PS console for the games I missed, as I did with PS3 and 4. I am seeing nothing on the PS5 that screams “wow I really need to buy this!” as of yet. FF7 remakes look good but everything else seems to be a remaster of something I already own on PS4. Maybe this changes in the next year but as of now this has to be the worst games library of any Playstation console at least so far IMO. Then there are the constant hacks, stealing of personal info. People were getting randomly banned for just logging into PSN at one point and losing all of their digital games, while Sony support is basically useless in these instances.
Nobody with a brain should want them to ever be the defacto high end console manufacturer.
Not to mention all of the toxic gaming Youtubers, pundits and gaming media who dislike Xbox are now feeling completely validated and will continue to double down on their bullshit. The gaming media are very positive on this move and are fully encouraging MS to continue, gee wonder why that could be?
I second this.
You’ll be surprised it’s not that farfetched.
I’ve been a console player for three decades but made the jump to PC last summer after using Xbox as a primary platform for 15 years.
So far, it’s been painless and almost everything worked. I’ve been using Steam most of the time though.
The only game that didn’t work so far is Blair Witch from the Microsoft Store. It’s Play Anywhere but I simply can’t get it to launch.
Honestly, I have convictions and it’s always reflected in my real life decisions. I tell people to stay healthy, so I eat healthy and hit the gym 5 days a week. I truly believe in the energy transition and a cleaner environment, so I do compost, recycle, try not to overconsume and have 2 electric cars.
When it comes to gaming, I used to have to buy 1-2 games every month at full price, which ended up costing me way over 1000$ per year on top of Gold. Now, I barely pay a fraction of that plus some DLC and that’s all thanks to Xbox’s commitment to us gamers to deliver great games at a great price on consoles and PC and cloud. It’s also the only ecosystem that has respected my purchases and let’s me replay games all the way back to their first ever console and has worked to keep those games relevant. It’s the only one that has kept my accessories working so I didn’t have to buy tons of new controllers just for the heck of it. Xbox has done so much for us as consumers, surprisingly as this is still Microsoft we are talking about, and I have a lot of respect for that as it fits with my convictions and it’s pro consumer move, which is what people should be championing for. Saying Sony is smart by making people have to buy a Playstation due to games only being available there (not counting first parties) and pushing back PC releases is just plain stupid. If you agree with a company’s shitty business practices and are ok switching ecosystem just because you are happy knowing that the games are there and will be exclusive there forever, than I am sorry to say this, but you are a shitty person and have a very bad way of looking at things. Forcing consumers to buy things they don’t need to play stuff that should be available anywhere is just bad for everyone. Imagine if that’s how it was on PC and that some games would only work on a specific CPU or GPU vendor? That’s basically what some are justifying in this thread right now.
If the Xbox consoles were to completely disappear in 10 years (and I doubt they will) I would just go PC only and never even think about touching a Playstation. I have a lot more confidence that MS will figure out a way to keep all of our purchases available indefinitely than I am with Sony, especially considering none of my digital PS3 purchases have gone up to PS4 nor PS5; part of the reason why I have not touched a Playstation console since PS3 and why I had to, unfortunately, completely stopped buying digital on Nintendo consoles as all the stuff I have bought since the Wii has magically disappeared in the Nintendo cloud.
At this point honestly, with what we have seen, anyone assuming that EVERYTHING is heading EVERYWHERE is just doing that, an assumption, nothing more, nothing less. MS is probably committed to bringing more stuff over in the long run, but not at a frantic pace, and not for all games. They are also committed to keep bringing everything day 1 on PC and cloud anyway and will keep doing so.
And this strategy could be compared to other companies. Apple released it’s apple music app on android for example and made apple TV available everywhere. Part of it is to grow the subscriber base and get more people to pay for content that were never going to use an Apple product, just like what Xbox is doing. But then, you have Apple marketing those services on their platform, including it in bigger packages, for a cheaper price combined than what you’d pay on the other platforms, and getting better quality sound and video. When you look at it Apple is doing the same thing that MS is attempting to do here; reel people into their ecosystem. Apple is definitely better at marketing though that’s for sure, but I think the basic principle here is the same. Even Tesla is opening up its supercharger network, and you can be sure that’ll have an impact on some people once they start looking at an electric vehicle! It’s a pro consumer move for sure as now you don’t necessarily need to buy a Tesla to have the most EV charger access, but then everyone will use their chargers and their charging ports and give Tesla money in the end…
This is a big boy move from MS and it’ll trickle down soon enouigh. Sony and Nintendo ain’t playing 4D chess and being smarter, they are simply behind the curve in an ever evolving world. MS isn’t dominating in the cloud space and AI space for no reason; they had the foresight and knew where to invest to reap the results in the long term, which is why they dominate everywhere pretty much. I think they actually know what they are doing with gaming as well, it’s just taking some people longer to realize.
We just made a hot take on xbox hardware… And now this🫠
https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1761030083681419409?t=vlGcuQksHEtLilXCEdV4gQ&s=19
For January, Xbox Hardware had growth. The other platforms like Nintendo and Sony did not.
Sony last year had a huge growth due to resupply, ending the pain of scalper (at its peak extent). That said don’t be surprised the decline will be large margin. That’s why Sony failed to hit 25 million.
No pc gaming for me. Just too much of a hassle for me.
Hah, yeah that’s a red flag.
I can understand this but for me personally, it’s the opposite. From launch through 2023, first and third party console exclusives wise, I have had Miles (9/10), Ratchet (9/10), Kena (8.5/10), HFW (9/10), GOWR (9.5/10, my 2022 goty and #2 best game of the current generation), FF XVI (8.5/10) and Spider Man 2 (9/10). I also bought and played Returnal but it’s a rogue like game and im horrible at it which is a shame because third person shooters are few and far between. 5 first party games and 2 third party games for an overall rating of 8.9/10.
For PlayStation 4, I had Knack (6/10), Infamous First Light (7/10), The Order 1886 (7/10), Until Dawn (7/10), Ratchet 2016 (8.5/10), Alienation (8.5/10), Uncharted 4 (8.5/10) and Shadow of the Beast (6.5/10). All first party. 8 games total for an overall rating of 7.3/10.
Overall, I had more games on PS4 but quality wise, nowhere near as good as what I have had on PS5. 2017 for PS4 will be a lot closer to PS5 for me compared to the previous three plus years. Also, PS5 has given me a game of the year in GOWR where as with PS4, I didn’t have a Sony GOTY until 2017 (HZD).
To each their own and all that but for what is my secondary gaming console this generation, it’s beating out my primary gaming console from last generation which has never happened for me.
At least on the positive side, Microsoft’s timed console exclusive games will probably get a 5 point boost and if/when they release day one on PlayStation, they’ll probably get a 10 point boost. lmao
