Yeah, I don’t think it will get to a point where big third party games will skip xbox. However, Japanese support could cool down and same with Indie. However, IT hink there’s still a space for them to release on xbox even though they aren’t getting a gamepass bag

They have this in place to help with that
Why not just go PC as you could be disappointed if Playstation does thesame. Just an opinion.
What I want in a PC build is way too expensive. I might consider it for next gen because it would most likely signal an advancement in tech. I wouldn’t want to build a PC too early, and okay with waiting it out. I have a a decent gaming laptop for now that’s got a 3070ti. If I were to jump fully into pc gaming it would have to be with a desktop and it would be built near start of next gen
I think it’s not the same, people who have an emotional attachment to a brand won’t care if the brand they don’t have an attachment to does the same thing to them.
Fortunate for me I’m more into longevity of my library by having my library playable on other devices like PC and handheld devices. The Playstation’s infrastructure is one I have no faith in especially with what Sony just did with Funimation.
Imho no one should be angry that Xbox is putting their games everywhere, in the future Sony&Nintendo will do the same and Phil will be seen as a visionary. He will be soo big that the British Museum will have his portrait without his permission.
Yes there are extreme examples on both sides (those selling their Xbox before we know the full story and those attacking anything remotely negative) but think for most people they’re posting here out of disappointment.
The Series generation, coming off the back of the good press Xbox was finally getting for Game Pass etc, seemed set to challenge PlayStation much more strongly than the One had and possibly lead to greater penetration of markets Xbox hasn’t been strong in and lead to greater third party support.
No launch exclusives was a let down (nothing to truly push the hardware, I ended up using Watch Dogs Legion and AC Valhalla to see what the Series X could do), but the marketing was there at least - Series console ads on TV (even if it did have Master Chief without a game), marketing rights on EA games etc and some bigger Game Pass releases including the Sega / Altus deals.
The disappointments like games being delayed was understandable due to the pandemic, and for the most part the component constraints were keeping the PS5 from getting away too much.
Then within a year, radio silence - I didn’t see one Xbox TV ad for Halo Infinite or Forza Horizon 5, and none for the console itself heading into the second Christmas.
PlayStation was blanket advertising, Xbox went quiet - we now know it was likely due to the ABK deal being thrashed out and Xbox having to be meek and mild to get it passed, and that’s what seemed to happen, 2022 was a quiet year with little advertising and few first party games.
2023, PS5 component shortage over and it starts roaring ahead - Xbox still in meek mode, but finally ABK gets over the line and we think the gloves can come off, Xbox now has games and with ABK’s massive marketing budget and knowhow we’re good to go.
But nope, I saw a couple of TV ads for Starfield and that was it - and love it or hate it that game isn’t a great “next-gen” showcase when there’s loading screens to exit a shop, something Banishers and Greedfall (true AA games) can avoid - and Xbox first party games continued a trend of releasing unpolished and missing too much content (FH5 and the smaller games like HiFi Rush and Pentiment being the exceptions).
Microsoft in the corporate world are beasts - they’ll copy you and beat you at your own game with their slick marketing and tactics (Teams vs Zoom for example) so it’s disheartening when they just don’t seem to understand the need for marketing entertainment products - and now when ABK gives the scale to begin evening things up they’ve jumped the gun on this “multi-platform future” which longer term may hurt Xbox take-up further and so reduce third-party support further.
I’m not going to be selling my Xbox (particularly as I much prefer their value approach and stick layout), and I’ll get the next one (plus any mid-gen refresh this time round) - but I am likely to get a PS5 too later this year and go multi-platform myself, which I had to do last generation for the amount of games skipping the One which I’d hoped wouldn’t be the case this time round.
It’s just a bit disappointing - I work in IT and have seen how ruthless MS are (even when they’re playing nice) and it does feel they’d finally started to focus on Xbox and recapture the 360 magic when the ABK pursuit took all the wind out of their sails and now they’ve begun to accept permanent third place in hardware and so focus more on software.
It’s realism yes, but for those who remember the 360 magic and dislike the business practices of Sony it does feel a little like the bad guy wins and those of us who picked Xbox first are going to miss out on stuff until that “all games everywhere” future finally arrives…
Some people are just asses. It’s a shame some of the mods are the ones who resort to name calling and belittling the most. Heavens forbid some people be frustrated and not hand wave every dumb decision xbox leadership makes. There are some over the top takes on both sides, but I wouldn’t resort to calling those individuals, let alone a thread, crazy.
People are going to continue to play on the box they already own. You’re going to see the next big shift at the beginning of next gen, just like with the beginning of the Xbox One era.
Booty said in his blog post that they’re going where the players are. This is a clear statement regarding the future. Xbox funded marketing featuring other platforms front and center or straight up ignoring Xbox is intentional as well.
You can try to spin it as much as you want but Microsoft has been on a journey to devalue Xbox as a console platform for quite some time now.
It started happening long before the ports were rumored/announced.
But surely you must see that this is just one example of poor communication by the Xbox team?
They said
and doubled down on the same messaging in the linked article
Now I can’t tell you what exactly Xbox was trying to convey with these statements if it wasn’t a reference to creating the PS and N versions but I can absolutely say that this phrasing absolutely conveys the fact that the studios that built the games are the ones porting them to the new platforms.
So yes maybe some of the takes in this thread are based on bad information from questionable sources but we need to also keep in mind that the communication from Xbox to their customers surrounding this change has not been that good and if it was better (certainly in this instance and I bet I could find more) then peoples views may have been better moderated.
What is this
They also hide the PC release. They try to push the message of a game being a new release and not a late port.
… maybe because it was already on Xbox and this is just an announcement of the new platforms? I don’t find it that weird
If you scratch away ar the image, the xbox logo is revealed.
There is literally no reason to not include Xbox here.
Seems like people have accepted the shitty Xbox marketing.
Of course, it can’t get any worse than the situation here in Europe, so whatever…
That’s just how it’s usually announced when a game comes to new platforms, only the new platform/s highlighted. Example from masters of marketing at PS
Id rather have my testicles squashed than move to a sony ecossytem.
I really want to stick with Xbox because I simply highly prefer their ecosystem, their features such as quick resume continue to be awesome, especially when you juggle games which I definitely do lately. I vastly prefer their controller too.
If there’s no noticeable decrease in third party support in the coming years, I see no reason to move over to PS completely. It all remains to be seen what happens. I do plan to get a PS5 Pro and that likely means it will become the main system for the rest of this console generation, but I expect to be fully back at Xbox if they indeed build a fantastic system.
