I can get behind this. Though I generally don’t believe there’s games that that would be a guarantee system seller other than GTA maybe, I understand that yeah as a first party philosophy Phil wasn’t chasing only the big AAA stuff, but I again say it’s not like that would have made them guarantee system sellers. His actual first party initiative only started 2018 and hasn’t yet really taken full shape so it’s still not time to judge it all.
Btw sorry if my attitude was hostile in my reply. Didn’t comprehend the view of your post at first.
I think this is one of the reasons they have Game Pass to tide things up while they prepare. The FTC vs ABK trial did show a snippet of Phil Spencer addressing his executive team of a disaster of missing release dates by a gap of 16 months. I do think the reality might help him with decisions in the future especially ones concerning the brand.
They kind of didn’t make him the community did. He was friends with Phil before the Don Mattrick situation. I also don’t think he ever used it for making money like many.
Also, I believe Peter Moore said this are just things you have to do when you’re the underdog, remember the PlayStation Experience and how Sony mingled with their community back then even having Yoshida at Colin and Greg’s house for special events.
Time will tell the changes especially with seeing this new Sora AI demo.
Agreed but now with that Sora AI demo I’m thinking Game development might ramp up becoming faster and maybe they can get back on something like a True Crime game or similar.
That shit has terrified the entire sector. I honestly didn’t expect AI to reach this level this quickly, makes you wonder how far will it in the coming years.
I don’t know if I need to laugh at this or not. Twitter discourse doesn’t translate really well to the real world when it comes to gaming, too many loud mouths out there. I don’t even know anyone in real life that knows or has played Helldivers 2 and in no way is it as big as Halo in terms of franchise. Let’s wait a few weeks and see how it holds up, and don’t read crazy people on Twitter, it’s bad for your brain.
What IF this is a sneaky move to get PS players to build up an Xbox library of games on their PS5/Switch via cross buy, what IF the PS5/Switch version gives them a Xbox and PC copy as well, it’s a lot more easier to move across with a inbuilt library. Crossbuy, cross save, achievements, friends list and everything is used when playing Xbox games on other platforms so IF they switch over it’ll all be waiting for them.
Twitter is a part of social media and that was a part of what boosted the 2013 situation. Hell divers is big but not like any Xbox game as you have to consider Xbox games also release on the windows store and Game pass. Halo had 20 million players overall in 2 weeks I doubt Hell Divers will reach that many.
And I think they’ll find a solution, one of those solutions won’t be putting their games on Xbox or Nintendo consoles though, I don’t know what it’ll be but that’s for them to find out.
I’d also like to know how their profits compare to other generations because iirc they didn’t make any profit for years during the PS3 and they were fine in the end, Microsoft even gave them a hand with their sabotage of the Xbox division with the Xbox One, I have no reason to believe PS consoles will suddenly disappear any time soon.
More like 30+ years and almost 30 years of history from two specific very successful console manufacturers who keep things simple and aren’t trying to change the business or jump to the future every generation, I trust they’ll figure things out.
And when Papa Microsoft says otherwise I doubt Phil will have any say on that.
Microsoft /Xbox has choosen 4 games very carefully
Sea of thieves - there best ongoing live service game. The game has pulled in many players despite its lackluster initial reviews. The game may have also reached its full potential on both PC and Xbox. Moving onto switch and PS can give this game a new life and ROI could be huge due to this move. The success of this game will determine if it is wise to launch first party titles on rival platforms or not. I see 90% success rate for this title.
Hifi Rush - This game will determine launch of single player games on rival platforms. This will also determine the success of the games which does not do well sales wise on xbox-pc. I see this game to be a big hit on Nintendo and 50-50 success rate on PS.
Grounded - community driven games are a big aspect of xbox gaming and Grounded is the smartest choice. This game could have the best ROI % figure in the Xbox’s history. I see 70% success rate for this game.
Pentiment - I believe all these niche developer’s passion projects should launch on every platform possible. These type of games could hardly ever have a substainal pull as an exclusive. I hope xbox greenlights more of these games to give a breather to there parmanent employees. Launch on every platform. Although, being a niche game I am not sure what the success rate could be for such type of game. Instead of launching on PS and Nintendo, xbox should have launched it on ios and android first. I see 50-50 success rate for this.
Let’s see which type of games have success. If everyone of them flops, then xbox will never bother to bring new games to rival platforms. If they succeed, expect more similar kind of games after some timed exclusivity to launch on PS and switch 2.
They already have MLB on Xbox. Yes, this might not be up to them, but they are still making money from the deal and then there is Death Stranding that released on the windows store and there are also the Bungie games that will be on every platform both Nintendo and Xbox included. Once there is a precedent for it happening what is the assurance other games couldn’t come in the future. There are no absolutes here. I get that looking at things today one could assume nothing will change but that is never a guarantee. The reality of the situation now is the entire industry is struggling and consoles are not selling they are dropping very fast who knows if this is a crash or if it will recover or change for good.
Sega disappeared and it seemed impossible so I’m never going to doubt it could happen.
At the end of the day this is the path Xbox has chosen. I personally am not bothered I just want them to make a way for me to play all my library on PC.
By the way did you see the AI Sora demo. That Demo implies AI in gaming could radically change things heck one could produce their own movie probably solo on a shoe string budget.
I think you’re looking too hard at this. Mama already has tons of data from al the Minecraft games and Bethesda games on other platforms as well as Ori and there are probably a bunch I’m forgetting like the Quake ports more recently for example.
MS already knows the impact of Live service game as the inclusion of Fallout 76 in PS+ is one of the reasons why they decide to invest more in the title and hire a studio for it instead of just “keeping it alive”. Sea of Thieves falls in this category.
Grounded is getting an animated series so my guess is they want to capitalize on that and build enough of a fanbase to make a sequel and grow beyond games.
Hifi Rush has tons of commercial appeal as well and I feel they’re trying to push for a sequel but need proof that it has that appeal. If it didn’t do too hot on Steam I don’t think there is any reason to think it’ll sell gangbusters elsewhere.
Pentiment bombed hard and I think they know this one has 0 impact but is probably easy to port over for a quick buck.
MS doesn’t need to release on PS or Switch to know how well a game will do outside of Xbox; they already have Steam for that, the largest player community in the world. When they say they want to see if doing that will hurt the Xbox business or not, I think that’s exactly what they mean. They know the appeal of their games, they just don’t know if sending some to other plastic boxes outside of PC will affect their own plastic box’s sales or not, which is why they are going slow, and imo, won’t go faster until they are certain they can retain most of their users. I think the only way they’d go all out is if they have guarantee that the user base they currently have will not switch over as they don’t want that, unlike what those saying is better for everyone but actually are just closet PS fanboys that apparently hate all MS titles but have been port begging since the start of the rumours.
MS wants to keep the non Xbox gamers on a leash and slowly try to reel them in the the Xbox side. Once they see they have cross save, achievements accumulating, maybe the transition will start making itself more clear.
Well like you said MLB wasn’t up to them and neither was Bungie, that was simply a condition Bungie set in order to be sold to Sony, Sony agreed, a condition I wish Disney would also have publishers agree to who want to license their IPs then they should all be multiplat, as for AI, I think that industry needs heavy regulations but that’s another topic.
But they didn’t die and like we all know, good guy Microsoft gave them a hand by almost killing their own console division and handed over the generation to them by not investing or buying studios at all all of last gen until it was too late and now soon enough all Xbox games will be on Playstation, only a matter of time because this is just the beginning.
