Imagine Phil just straight up announce an exodus on Xbox brand and does it real time, taking down the set, the hosts, rip his Xbox shirt and what’s underneath is a Microsoft shirt, and so on. It will be a literal corporate takeover.
Have they announced the time the podcast will be live?
3 pm EST.
I think Sony’s financial results should put things into perspective for people
The industry is changing and it’s changing fast, people love their consoles and I don’t think they are going away anytime soon for both companies but how and where we can access them is going to shift massively in the next 5-10 years
This isn’t me saying MS are porting everything to PS but I do think going forward, it’s going to be less about exclusives and more about things like subscriptions and ecosystem
They aren’t going to clarify every future project for every studio.
Let’ em. They have been port begging them for the last 5 years.
That or just turns up with a Playstation T-shirt, Nintendo baseball cap and Steam Jacket .
I’ve honestly just come to terms with the way the gaming industry is and seems like things really need to change. It’s good that more people will get a chance to play Xbox games on their platform of choice and hopefully the reverse will happen eventually.
I’ll probably still invest in my Xbox whilst saving and building a PC. I need to learn to not put all my eggs in one basket as you never know what the heck might happen with our digital libraries.
Anyway… Xboxera is the is awesome and I’ll still be my go to for gaming/community.
So then there’s no reason to watch this nonsense. Pretty much done with all this anyway.
I’ll just go read the hot takes and all the clowning of Microsoft when it’s all over.
That’s why they need to drag PlayStation into the messaging today. Bring the financials up
That way if the media want to report on Xbox negatively they’ll have to include PlayStation as well.
Use them as the shield to at least take their share of negative reaction
Operations PlayStation shield I like it
Eh, both of those consoles had the exact same design goals. It’s entirely fair to compare them especially in the lens of design philosophies. And in HW terms 1 year is nothing as far as I know there were no new super technologies included in 1x that wouldn’t have been available to Sony when they designed the PS4 Pro
Mark Cerny’s stated goal for PS4 pro was - ““PS4 Pro’s targets are support of high-res displays, 4K displays, higher framerates,” said Cerny”.
What he didn’t say was that the design choices he made meant it was (for any standard game type) impossible for it to support full 4k/30.
For example the deliberate choice not to add extra memory to support 4k textures. Clearly done to reduce BoM but sold to the public as a good thing because it will save developers time and money producing them. Which while it may have been true for 1st party Sony devs at the time was absolutely not for 3rd parties who were already producing them for PC.
Time and cost in this context are just retro fitted excuses as to why PS4 Pro didn’t do what it was sold on, go back and read any of the numerous interviews with Mark Cerny at the time and it’s easy to see (once you get past all architecture improvements, half float and secret customisation flim-flam) that this was a box designed to be as cheap to make as possible and was never really aimed at a native 4k presentation. Not to save developers “millions of dollars” in asset costs but to make dollars for Sony’s bottom line. nothing wrong with that they are a business but it’s a fact.
So yea, if by working smarter you mean with a goal of putting cash in Sony’s pocket at the expense of the customer getting an inferior end product then yes you are correct.
Me as the end customer there is no way I’m applauding that or buying a product that’s been made to those goals and I don’t see why anyone would.
Clearly Sony will continue on the same track with either a 5 Pro or 6 as there financial model is currently (at least a large part of it) built around profitable HW sales.
If you’re happy to buy into that then all good but personally if Xbox consoles (or high end ones) disappeared tomorrow I don’t want bargain basement console hardware designed to make its company the most money so the sensible thing to do to get decent HW is to transfer to PC where I can control the spec and cost for myself.
All conjecture right and a good way to use up the 5 hours before we know for sure but it’s all pie in the sky 'til then. It’s as likely that MS are going to tell us they have formed a development partnership with NVIDEA’s customer chip division and the next high end Xbox is going to be based on the 50 series GPU as they are going to tell us they have one console and it matches Switch 2
???
Xbox is definitely more powerful than the PS5, but apparently their development tools were not ready. Now we see a lot more games that takes advantage of the difference. Also not surprising if smaller developers are more focused on the more popular platform.
And nobody said the XSS is comparable to the PS5. That’s straight up La La Land.
Series S has a better CPU, worse GPU (for high resolutions) and less RAM (fewer graphical features). It’s not miles off, but it’s definitely firmly below it
It’s been so long since they released that I can’t really remember, but wasn’t the PlayStation’s only real advantage (from a hardware perspective) the custom SSD controller for their NAND modules and a spare M.2 slot? I’m pretty much everything else was faster/better on the X.
I believe they previously had 6 NAND modules which they have now reduced to 4 NAND modules in the slim.
Technically having these NAND modules soldered could reduce the longevity of the PS5 consoles compared to the 2230 M.2 in the Xbox anyway (even if it is slower).
How long do we expect the podcast to be? Hour, hour and a half?
The Xbox podcasts are usually in the 60-90 minutes range, so I expect a similar length. I just expect that they actually answer every question and don’t leave things too open ended.
At what time does the event start?
3pm EST
It’s going to be a marathon session that lasts 365 days…
