Would any docked handheld be able to deal with the heat produced in this situation though?
PC should have been a year later or at least 6 months. Day and date did damage to PC players with an Xbox. My PC isn’t strong enough but if it was, why would i get a Series X?
Going multiplatform will get every Xbox game coverage of when is it on Playstation. I’ve sadly come to acceptance that I won’t be on the Next Gen Xbox hype train. It’s death by a 1000 cuts.
Let’s see if they can get their messaging in order…
I remember John Linnerman putting up a list of games performance and saying more games have done better on Series X than PS5.
Laptops can be pretty powerful, but obviously they are on the larger size. They could also leverage an eGPU and put processing in the dock. Hard to say I suppose.
Yep because pretty much the one true comparison for PS4 Pro and 1X is so close you can’t tell the difference. Right? (it’s wrong see below).
Compare RDR2 on those consoles and demonstrate to me how that’s an example of working smarter.
In fact it proves the opposite of what you are saying. It demonstrates that where a developer is willing to spend the time optimising for the better platform (in this case 1x) rather than coding to the lowest common denominator (PS4 Pro) the difference in HW capabilities is clear.
The fact that you don’t see it commonly is because 3rd parties won’t invest in optimisation or a different target spec. that’s a different argument and doesn’t change Sony’s hardware design strategy.
Which is not working smarter. It’s working cheaper.
In some cases because they have the largest userbase so are ore often the lead console for developers who can’t justify extra cost for an Xbox version.
Mark Cerny is competent (certainly compared to Ken) but he’s not an unparalleled HW design genius, he is though very good at selling the emperor’s new clothes.
I have never understood the PC devaluing the console market argument.
The majority of people buying/playing consoles (casuals) are not the same people buying gaming spec PC’s. They want a cheaper, easy to use (plug and play) system where they can sit on a couch playing with a controller in front of their big TV.
The people buying/playing gaming spec PC’s are also not the people typically buying consoles. They are after high performance, happy to tinker with settings and will sit at a desk with a high quality monitor with keyboard and mouse.
The emergence of PC handhelds has altered that slightly but it’s still considered a niche. If anything its probably PC players buying them who want to play on the go or on the couch.
There will bit a small amount of crossover in the more hardcore fans (such as this forum) but they aren’t really competing 1:1 atleast not right now. Releasing on both console & PC has always made sense to me.
If anything not releasing your games to a wider audience damages it as after 6-12 months people have moved on to the ‘next’ game.
Same here, I have a PC that could play all the latest games with a high framerate, but I just prefer playing on console.
Gaming laptops even more so, as they all build bigger than normal to handle the type of heat produced during gaming.
Biggest key difference that gives PS5 advantage is the smooth transition of the development environment form PS4 and it being the lead platform, XSX really deosnt get devs full attention because it’s not only a smaller base but the developers also have to make Series S versions which definitely take some focus and effort away from XSX.
All in all, just hardware wise, the consoles are all brilliant in their own ways. Don’t think it’s any help to think one is “smarter” than the other really, it echoes some of the stupid fanboy talking points that make it seem like Xbox engineers just put together some prebuilt PC and called it a day, and it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I’m still getting a next gen Xbox for Game Pass, no way I’m paying 70 bucks for Xbox games on PlayStation, unless they fuck Game Pass up
Take deep breaths and relax.
Imagine after a while into the podcast they say they have a special guest. It’s the CEO of PS and well, you can fill in the rest.
That sure would be nice. That’s certainly a way to stay in the headlines for quite some time, lol. And lots of glorious meltdowns to enjoy.
While I’m happier to be on the better side of the 1X/Pro battle, there is a full year and 100 bucks cheaper of a difference. The 1X should be demolishing a console that is cheaper and a year older. It’s fairer to compare consoles released at the same time. The market didn’t have much of an issue with the weaker PS5. Sony was quickly turning a profit on consoles while Phil Spencer said MS took a 200 dollar loss on the Series X.
So yeah Sony did work smarter with a cheaper build that the general public didn’t see as a cheap copy of the Series X. Im not saying that the PS5 or PS4 Pro were better than the Series X and X1, I’m saying relative to cost to make them there isnt much of a noticable difference to the casuals.
That message is already false.
I’ve seen a lot of stupid responses to this, mostly mocking. Are people genuinely stupid to not realise this doesn’t literally mean every screen is an Xbox?
It would be naive to believe that if the two were reversed, Xbox wouldnt be seen as a cheap copy of the PS5. It would be all the “media” and social media would be talking about.
Something tells me when all I said and done tonight we’ll all be, meh, that was it? That’s not so bad.
If there’s no semblance of clarity then it’s going to be a shit show.
Every game announcement, AAA or otherwise will come with you automatic baggage of “Can’t wait to play it on PlayStation!”.
