The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

There is an interesting contrast between Nintendo’s Direct which updates people on new games and MS’s podcast which will tell us about the future of the Xbox business.

I’m a pessimist by nature and I try not to advertise it that much.

I tend to calculate every conceivable negative outcome.

I like the Xbox platform and I’m not going anywhere. All I’m hoping is some reassurance on our investment to the platform if they go full 3rd party, so that I can buy some stuff I want without worrying about it.

They did just have a direct a few weeks ago that most loved.

Wait so what’s going on?

I thought this was going to be a Microsoft business event, and that the Xbox people out of the loop and didn’t know what Microsoft will announce?

Now it’s a podcast with Phil, Sarah and Matt?

So help me God if we get a podcast and the rumoured Nintendo Direct gets a video of Xbox staff on the Direct bringing games to Nintendo then im not spending another cent on the console. I’ll ride my Gamepass subscription to the end next year and it’s over. That would make me fell like a sexond class citizen more than anything else. My hope for the future of Xbox faded with the podcast announcement. This will be damage limitation that they dont want to be caught on tape saying the words. When was the last time someone covering gaming played an audio only clip. Frustrated is not the word.

I think Xbox will be happy with lower hardware sales that exclusives going to PS5 will bring. However 1yr exclsivity and gamepass will still keep Xbox a strong pillar. I hope they go the steamdeck route and release an xbox branded custom PC with an “Xbox mode”

The Xbox Podcast is an in studio video recording and has been ever since it started back up last year.

Jesse if all this turns out to be a big nothingburger I promise to give you a hug. If it does turn out that we were right to be pessimistic however, you owe everyone in this thread a year of Game Pass Ultimate. Deal?

Reacting once news is real is fine. I’ve never once said to not feel negative, but the level of discourse still can’t dip into “just go away, let us be mad and never say anything” echo chamber territory. It’s how communities fall apart.

… Why not compare Nintendo Directs to Developer Directs instead of forcing a comparison to a one off business update on the regular Xbox podcast?

The FTC is still trying to unwind the deal and Microsoft doesn’t want to give the FTC any additional ammo to do so, despite how unlikely it is. The FTC has even tried to use the recent layoffs against them. Zenimax didn’t have any of these issues as the approval was unanimous.

It should be noted that neither Sarah Bond nor Matt Booty have been properly introduced in their new roles. Doing so during a podcast discussing the future of Xbox would make sense.

I just read the tweet and thought…a podcast? Ok cool, that way we get clear details on stuff and questions will be asked and answered.

I had thought it would be a blogpost and done, but this is better. And then I see comments like “this will not end well.” and I just don’t get it. It’s honestly impossible to know what we’re gonna hear but damn…stay a little positive? Or neutral.

If the reports are true that Spencer reassured the teams that Xbox hardware will be fine, and that Xbox in general was surprised with all the rumors…it doesn’t sound like it will be ultra bad.

If by huge mess you mean some layoffs, no, unless you expect every publisher out there to do this anytime they have some layoffs

They are a completely normal and expected part of the industry unfortunately

Don’t think it really matters when they did this, it’s clear that there’s going to be news that Xbox fans aren’t going to like, even just one game going elsewhere is going to piss people and that’s basically the bare minimum you can expect

It’s obvious there’s going to be news “we” dislike, the question is if there will be any news that “we” do like with this reported shift in strategy

There’s a difference between being negative and instantly assuming the worst on basically any piece of information you’re given

I’m not happy about this reported strategy shift at all, iv made that very clear but I’m also not jumping on the end is nigh train because of a damn podcast announcement, that’s not negative, that’s just straight up miserable

The fact they were having this event at all should have clued people in that it wasn’t going to be something minor, you don’t have one of events like this if there aren’t going to be some significant changes

People are assuming that the event is going to be mostly around some xbox games coming to other platforms when there are many other major things that could be changing

An hour between posts? Haha wtf.

Yeah, because people looking into every detail to feed their doom and gloom. Nothing changed from few days ago and somehow it got worse lmao

I’m guessing it will just be a informal chat like they did with ABK (on the same podcast)…

There’s nothing overly concerning to me about it being on a Podcast , a Thursday? or the top dogs (which we want to hear from) being there?

If the rumor is true, the question I want to know the most is why. Even if it’s the most selfish reason like more money, I just want an answer.

Hifi and Pentiment “soon”, Sea of Thieves “later this year”, nothing else confirmed but things are “under consideration”.

I’d consider this headline to be a bit weak, compared to the article’s content

Feels like they confirmed to verge of those 3 specifically then.
