The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Yeah, that’s the thing here. According to Jez who has it from good sources MS is exploring ideas to bring more older games to other platforms. My question then is, solely older smaller games or big stuff such as Gears and FH/FM as well? Nintendo only or for some reason PS as well? I just don’t get it. And assuming that’s all true, what happened to “Where there’s Game Pass, these games will be on it.”?

MS sends review codes for the game on PS5. Scores incredibly well, 95 average.

MS has now proved the xbox tax and cancels the port! in an outrage these outlets promise to never rate an xbox game over 70 again

This is it. The landscape already shifted a while ago and we’re starting to see a wider adoption of that ethos. Ultimately, all the additional avenues of revenue just ensure that Xbox is here to stay, and as Phil has repeatedly said: “when everyone plays, we all win” and “Xbox hardware will be the best place to experience first-party content”.

Those two quotes are in line with each other, and have clearly illustrated that what it means to be first-party is shifting but there will still be exclusives and hardware to push those exclusives. The moment some of you move past the list-war nonsense (and baseless assertions of what these moves mean for Xbox and/or their bottom dollar), the community overall will be in a much better place as well.

I’ll only ‘freak out’ if Xbox no longer releases hardware.

That would be a very sad day. Games are one thing, but hardware is a different beast entirely. As someone who has owned every PlayStation until this gen & owned every Xbox since the 360 gen, I can say I’m primarily an Xbox player… for the hardware. The consoles are simply better on the Xbox side of things. The controller is more comfortable, the OS more responsive & intuitive (always made sense considering MS is a software giant) & the way cloud saves work along with backwards compatibility ensures Xbox is my default gaming choice. Irrespective of ‘exclusives’ (my favorite franchise is Resident Evil… which I play on Xbox).

So I’m completely unfazed by hints at certain games going multiplat… unless it impacts the hardware side of things. I didn’t become an Xbox owner for any one particular game or a subscription service. I’m here for the hardware.

I dunno why there’s a meltdown over this, if you want to save major headache, you just buy an Xbox or play on PC, because otherwise you’re going to wait their goodwill to port after X years a game that might not be the one you expect.

The way i view this whole thing is that it has been blown way out of proportion. MS had a slide during the FTC case about what games they even considered for bringing to other consoles and i think that’s what is going to happen.

The small ones that don’t really move consoles could find their way to other platforms on a case by case basis. And the massive multiplayer games could also find their way their. Because at the end of the day Microsoft is a company and wants to continue to grow and make money. Doing those 2 things while keeping the halo gears forza fable hellblade Elder Scrolls size games exclusive. Gives reason to keep their brand plus gamepass being the place to play everything from that list.

The smaller games from the look of it would all be timed exclusives that never leave gamepass. Because i haven’t seen any of those snaked games got day and date on other platforms. Multiplayer GaaS i could see making the move in the future due to the added cash flow.

But what does that do for Xbox users. Let’s Microsoft keep growing. They do things like that it will be harder for them to be stopped on purchasing other devs or publishers because they won’t be withholding them from everyone.

And at the end of the day you don’t like the way they are doing business just go elsewhere. You aren’t forced to stay by there side just like they aren’t required to answer to every rumor that pops up. To many are way to invested into something they don’t have the information for or even a confirmation just a rumor to go off of.

This is the crux of the matter, isn’t it? i.e. people think this is like the Dreamcast all over again whereby any hint of multiplatform = death of the hardware division.

Personally I don’t think this is the case at all. I can foresee Xbox handpicking a few games to release on other platforms from the dozens of studios they now own whilst the Xbox consoles remain an avenue for fans of the brand to engage full in, at least until such time as console tech is totally outdated by something better.

I agree but even huge Xbox fans are parroting this “Third party” nonsense. One day I hope that we as Xbox fans can have healthy conversations about these things without having full meltdowns.

Hey as a Xbox console gamers for over 20 years. I never liked the idea of Xbox putting their games on PC. I don’t like this idea of putting games on mobile or Cloud. I hate that they are rumored to put another game on PlayStation and Nintendo. If Microsoft Gaming needs to do that because daddy Microsoft demands it fine. Microsoft damage the Xbox brand themeselves it’s their money. Can I ask Team Xbox to give Xbox console gamers more 90+ metacritic games. Games with complete feature sets. Games that aren’t incomplete or need updates like Halo Infiinite, Starfield and Forza Motorsport. Can we have games nominated at Geoff’s Game Awards for Game of the Year. I want Hellblade 2 to win Game of the Year over the next gen Mario game for Super Nintendo Switch this year. In 2025 I want Fable to win Game of The Year over Grand Theft Auto VI.

My thoughts: Xbox bringing 1st party IP to other platforms causes more problems than the imaginary ones it solves - XboxEra

Play nice.

Let‘s put it that way: I‘m not gatekeeping Xbox games from other players. I wish we could take our gaming licenses and progress across all platforms. I wouldn’t care about all of it in that case. But we would need legislation to change for this in a big way. However, I‘m not convinced their console business is in a good place. I don‘t believe Switch ports like for Hi-Fi Rush would help the Xbox console business, and I also don‘t think it helps Game Pass growth. It’s a one-way street and only generates short-term revenue IMO. That’s why I don‘t like this idea. I want them to release consistently great exclusive games for a number of years first and then see what it does to their business. They aren‘t at that point yet.

There’s an even bigger elephant in the room which people are ignoring & that’s future acquisitions. We all know the trouble MS had with regulators over Activision-Blizzard, i.e. problems also relating to the concept of exclusivity for acquired content.

Well, putting something like Hi-Fi Rush (which is now back catalogue on Xbox) on another platform like Nintendo Switch would certainly help alleviate regulator concerns going forward regarding any prospective future MS acquisition, especially of a major publisher.

It just seems like that’s guaranteed to have been a topic of conversation among the higher ups at MS in recent months.

Xbox players will continue to get exclusives, and the reward of being able to play every Xbox title in Game Pass surely outweighs the tantrums garnered simply because more people get to play selective Xbox titles. I’ve said what I have about this “transparency” complaint… I don’t understand how we expect “case by case basis” to have suddenly been thrown out the window, especially after we saw Phil say in court exactly how that analysis is done… and how we will see both exclusives and multiplats.

Someone’s unwillingness to actually listen to Phil isn’t my problem and shouldn’t be the community’s either :man_shrugging:

Literally one of the things I’ve been saying. People loved to follow the drama of the FTC case but didn’t bother listening to a damn word Phil and co said. I just can’t wait to see people’s reactions when Sony also starts doing what their own roadmap suggests ffs.

There’s also no actual math to prove why Xbox would forego all the revenue they get from the ecosystem, or the fact that they just spent billions of dollars and millions of chips to put Xbox hardware in the cloud if they’re just dropping the hardware two years later. I swear to gods, this discussion has no fiscal merit.

You summed this all up so well! I hope the right people see this nuanced take on everything and that it will contribute to their decision-making process.

Good video, summed up my thoughts, was also the first time I listened to that entire Ori quote, not great

Literally everything he said is happening right now because of this rumor, if this does happen and by the sounds of it, it will, they need to be very clear on their direction and it needs to be more than vague “case by case” corpo speak as that’s not going to kill speculation whatsoever

Some really quick thoughts, mostly centered on how I don’t see why anyone has any questions around the existence of an Xbox Platform moving forward or for the next decade.

There will be an Xbox console for the next 6-10 years at a minimum. First, we have MS’s statements where they indicated they will make a next-generation console. Second, if you look at it from a financial perspective, there is no way they will give up that 20-30% cut of everyone-else’s releases. On top of that, they get to keep 100% of the sales of their own titles on that platform. In addition to that, you have the Xbox Accessories market, where their Xbox controllers with new stylings and the design labs bring in substantial profit, where these profit generators sit at the top of the month to month charts.

Why do I feel I’m getting singled out in here, wow great community here…… I already stop posting so the conversation won’t drag on but…. Anyway great piece by Jon/sikamikanico, sums up what I wanted to convey.

I don’t think people are doubting the existence of hardware, at least I’m not

I’m doubting the validity of it from a third party standpoint, the more they put on rival platforms the worse it’s going to sell and it’s already not selling well

and the less it sells the less third parties are going to care which in turn will just harm Game Pass
