The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Maybe Phil bought the team an extra week to convince MS why exclusives are important…

The event will still go on though so now I really wonder what Xbox will do there because the alarms are still on for a “vision change” to happen.

Tbf, i think a lot of these rumours were stuff that was being considered.

And people have subsequently jumped to a guarantee that it would be ported.

The info spread around, regarding Starfield or all the other stuff too?

What did Grubb do?

Basically said that Tim Klobrille and another xbox guy I forget were toxic. According to Klobrille he apologized to him so there’s that.

I doubt stuff like Gears is getting ported, if Starfield isnt.

I doubt all of it until we get official news.

Sea of Thieves was originally the only one that sounded plausible to me.

I got sucked in when everyone including XboxEra started confirming these various games were coming to other platforms.

Bingo.

There was probably something brewing and they needed time for some high level meetings for Phil to show and explain how fucking terrible this idea was.

I’m still expecting Hi-fi rush and a few other smaller games though but I’m ok with that.

Maybe some of those leaks were from info from a long time ago as we do know that some MS execs indeed wanted to port stuff.

Hifi files are there and there is the Sea of Thieves Rumor. To me, as long as it’s ideally only on Switch 2 I’d be ok with that. If they can keep PS5 owners salivating at Xbox games all be more than happy!

So we’re back now ?

Could you imagine if after the meltdowns this week it is just HiFi and SOT they announce next week haha

I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe.

I thought the news was always about Hi Fi Rush and SOT. Did people think everything was going multiplat effective immediately ?

If it’s just HFR and SOT we’ll be back to case by case and people will be mad at a lack of clarity lol. They’ll probably need to clarify how they choose games if that’s what they go with. It obviously won’t be just HFR and SOT long term.

“Business Event” is kinda grand for that.

Idk if they’re bringing a hardware announcement or what, hopefully something more interesting than just digital Series X if so.

And at the very least we have heard that apparently they weren’t going to comment on Starfield or Indy going multi or not here.

Im thinking a long-term multiplatform GAAS strategy being announced.

regardless of people walking back what they said the damage is done

Honestly, the fact it took off the way it did, including here with the Starfield leak/article, is kind of an indictment on Xbox’s messaging on their direction for the platform, especially with the kind of comments coming from Tim Stuart and Satya Nadella regarding exclusives, which seemingly contradicting things that Phil Spencer and Xbox leadership say. Even if just one game goes multiplat (outside of the franchises that are already multiplat), it’s contradictory to Phil Spencer’s comments following the Ori release. To me, Xbox has always had a communication problem and they put their foot in their mouth all the time.

The way I see it is there are three scenarios:

  1. Best case scenario: It is mostly a nothing burger and it really is just Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. If this were the case, the fact that Xbox PR didn’t come out and shut down most of the rumors is laughable.
  2. Worst case scenario: Everything goes multiplat, which would essentially be Xbox digging its own grave.
  3. Most likely scenario: Some games from all publishing branches under Microsoft Gaming will go multiplat on a “case-by-case basis,” which is just going to leave people frustrated because I highly doubt whatever messaging comes out next week will be completely clear on what this means since asking Xbox PR to clearly express something is like asking a goose to lay a golden egg.

It’s best to just wait until next week to see what gets said, but I think the lack of trust people have in Xbox’s communication, and maybe Microsoft’s history with consumers, is what let things spiral to the extent it did.
