The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

You are doing the same thing you’re accusing others or doing, you’re also dismissing what Xbox did in the pandemic, because up until last year the Series was their fastest selling console as well, and their console business is also doing better than with the Xbox One… I don’t want it to make it about that but just to make a point, do you give Xbox credit for managing similar and sometimes better margins than PS… with half the consoles?

Sometimes you have to credit how well a product is selling even if it’s not for you or you don’t like it. I think Xbox does so many things better than PlayStation but not PR

I’ve more or less given up saying Xbox needs to spend more on PR promoting its consoles with consistent promotions and TV advertisements compared to looking to buying so many studios.

After the way this has been allowed to leak and fester. I can’t see Xbox PR or the brand identity coming back from this. Unless… Phil pulls the biggest rabbit out of the hat in modern day history.

Sony is clearly doing almost everything right and they have been since the PS1, with the exception of PS3. The only real bombs were the PS Vita and the PS Phone.

They have been killing it since the PS4.

Currently they’re expanding to Africa. In contrast MS wasn’t even able to advertise their products in the EU.

Of course they’re not satisfied, they projected that Game Pass subs would be much higher by now, for one; Microsoft misses Xbox Game Pass growth target for second year running | Eurogamer.net.

As they’ve missed that number, they’re looking at other ways to make up for that and whatever plan they reveal next week, is a direct result of things not going the way they wanted.

Mine would be that XBox will stay in the Hardware game and all current and future Acti/ Blizz will be completely multiplatform with every single one of them on Switch 2 and PS but on Gamepass for Xbox owners

Hi-Fi Rush is to be on the PS5 and Switch but with the sweetener that a sequel is in development for XBox and the same goes for Sea of Thieves and Grounded.

Also think that XBox wasn’t looking to bring Call Of Duty games to Gamepass all in one go but will now have to put up all Acti/ Blizz on Gamepass in one go

That’s what the delay is all about rather than XBox coming out this week to set the record straight.

From what I’ve seen most people here do and want Xbox to be similarly competitive with how hard Sony pushes their consoles. So, I don’t get your implication that Xbox fans in here are dismissive of Sony’s push of the PS5, with the many posts and threads in here that are critical of Xbox’s push efforts which most are in comparison to what Sony does with the PS5.

FF7 Rebirth is looking really good, it’s the kind of stuff I’d love to have on my Xbox too. But here we are, it’s not and on top of that Xbox is gonna bring some of their games to PS5. Why do we just not keep it fair? Let us have all Sony exclusives, and then they can have ours?

It sure sounds like a damn better future to me. That way everyone plays on their system of choice, done.

Not sure why you’re both touting each platform’s strategy as the correct one. It’s pretty evident that both Xbox and PlayStation haven’t been able to find a future proof strategy where they’re able to continue to do what they do best yet also gain high profits.

This doesn’t mean PlayStation 6 is suddenly going to be PlayStation’s last hardware release or that Xbox hardware is going to go obsolete after next week’s update. These companies will adapt and eventually figure it out. They’ve been thru much worse situations in their respective pasts.

If you want to put that extra 1 million consoles on a pedestal you can. But don’t be shocked no one worships it as a stunning achievement.

I mean Xbox did all that as well and is slightly ahead of Xbox One. Wanna cookie?

I dont have specific examples but I assume some of them are. I think the key difference is for Sony Spider Man 2 made $300-400m in the space of a couple of months then peeter out at half price

According to the leaks it might make an $80m profit in its lifetime. Which means Sony needs 5 “successes” on par with SM2 to do the budget for SM3.

Xboxs approach is to build a subscription service that makes 300m a month into a 600m one into a 900m one until the gas runs out. Xbox and MS leader ship have been clear on that for years. Console games on any device.

Well except for MLB again and again and everything Bungie makes.

Can you guarentee they never ever will extend that to maybe one other game that perhaps didnt make a lot of money?

The console is not their main goal anymore, their games/services are. If you watch any of Satya Nadella’s interviews not even pertaining to gaming, he wants to go where the consumer is, that’s their whole strategy. The console sales don’t matter anymore to them when they can have multi billion dollar franchises. Game development is tough and a lot of effort and money goes in right, well the best way to gain a profit is to increase their consumer size, and what other way to do it than to increase their presence on all Consoles and screens

If both companies don’t see a future in the current install base numbers, then both companies are run by people who should probably go & find another job.

I’m being serious here. Hollywood used to manage very nicely operating within a predictable revenue stream of moviegoers (that’s no longer the case of course, but that’s another topic entirely), but in any case if 50 million Xbox One consoles & over 100 million PS4’s sold were seen as ‘not enough’, then it’s not the market that’s the problem, it’s the people selling the products who’ve got a problem. Namely themselves, their forecasts, their budgets, their goals & their attitude towards growth & their customers.

Some would define this as capitalism out of control but the main point is there’s currently a huge market for home consoles. It’s up to smart people to operate a business within the confines of that market whilst having realistic growth expectations which aren’t a ticking time bomb for the company’s finances.

It’s 100% capitalism is out of control thing but nobody wants to hear that point haha.

I do think Sony will come to terms with being okay in their lane like Nintendo did. They’re too dependent on PlayStation.

It’s too late for Xbox though, they made the deal with the devil with that ABK purchase. They have the attention of the shareholders now and constant growth at any expense will be the expectation.

The issue I see with this statement is that Nadella is talking about windows productivity apps that he brought to other markets while Microsoft/Windows is pretty much the entire PC market with no real competition.

Also I could be wrong as I don’t follow news on it, but Azure doesn’t share anything with the competition because they’re all actually competing.

The fundamental issue with Xbox is the continuous flip flop, they can’t keep a singular strategy for more than 4-5 years, even when it’s working (Peter Moore’s Xbox) or it hasn’t even panned out (current one). That’s why many fans are considering jumping ship (and I’m not talking about weirdos who destroy the console, etc), most of us have not anynore the luxury nor the patience to follow the flip flops of a giga corporation after 20+ years. People like stability and consistency.

I’d stick to PC where you can get all the games. If your PC isn’t powerful enough you could try Geforce Now streaming. There is no telling what Sony will do, they could equally surprise everyone.

I’m not agreeing with Nadella either, I’m just guessing his thought process.

For him, he’s probably like “hey, Minecraft and COD are our biggest gaming IP/Revenue earners and they’re multiplat, why aren’t we doing the same with our other games that are barely breaking even or are losing potential revenue streams”.

From a laymen’s POV, it’s like yeah, that makes sense but of course the real answer has way more nuance and depth to it.

Until you look at their actual numbers, yes, they are killing it

They have amazing marketing and their ability to sell their consoles and make themselves look must have is very impressive but when you see their actual profits and what it’s costing them to get to this position is extreme

That being said, they are so much better than Xbox when it comes to presenting games and making them look must have, they also get “system sellers” in a way Xbox just doesn’t seem to

In the past 3 years they’ve had Miles Morales, Demon Souls, Horizon, GoWR, Ratchet, Spiderman 2 and soon FF7-2 and all have ranged from very well received to universal praise and all have system seller/mainstream appeal whether it’s stunning visuals or it being a super big IP

In the past 3 years the only one that matches those same qualities on the Xbox side is FH5, I don’t even care for Sony’s line up but it’s not hard to see why they are doing so much better, especially when you remember the marketing and third party deals on top of those

From 4chan

  • Activision Blizzard King will remain 3rd party and Bethesda will move its titles to 3rd party

  • Gamepass will see a reduction in day and date games. No more day and date Gamepass games from Bethesda and ABK either.

  • ABK games like Call of Duty won’t come to Gamepass, maybe, maybe months after launch

  • Maybe older ABK and Bethesda games will come to Gamepass

  • Xbox studios games will remain first party and again no day and date one Gamepass anymore

  • Xbox will still make one more console and the rest will be hardware you can connect to TV or PC to access Gamepass and Xbox library

Bullshit of the finest kind.

Yeah their strategies have been all over the place. They don’t stick to things for very long. Where will you go? I hope it PC. That’s where i’m going fully if they decide to kill hardware and go software only.
